Moises

I haven't been focusing enough on the important things in life lately. Do we know how long Moises is going to be wandering in the wilderness?

Let's get these stock responses out the way:

Moises Awho ain;t coming back until he's 100%,which maybe never...actually not sure if he or the Mets can even give a time on that.
TheOldMole Jun 25 2007 12:43 PM |
So I haven't missed anything? There actually is no discussion at all of a return date for Moises, no updates on his conditioning routine? No Mackey Shilstone? Is Willie pissed? Is Omar pissed?

I think he's supposed to start a rehab assignment this week,or maybe that was last week....the Mets had told him not to do a damn thing for ten days...nothing,not even piss on his hands, then he was to start rehab in FLA...and take ti from there....something like that.

Frayed Knot Jun 25 2007 05:48 PM |
Moises to be re-evaluated by doctors a week from today.
seawolf17 Jun 25 2007 06:04 PM |
Who?
Rockin' Doc Jun 25 2007 10:09 PM |
Wasn't it more than two weeks ago when he made statements to the effect that he could probably return and play, but he did not wish to return until he was 100%? He must be a real slow healer. It seems to me that his desire for a paycheck exceeds his desire to play baseball. I

From today's NYTimes:
The print edition of the Times had a little more info. The injury was desribed as a tear not a strain and it noted that Alou is feeling 'very good'. Whatever that's worth.

I remember around June 1 his return was imminent. Maybe tomorrow, maybe the next day. Then suddenly the prognosis changed to "not soon."

Meanwhile, Gomez is just starting to look like a Major League player.
Centerfield Jun 26 2007 08:26 AM |
If he's feeling that good I'd think the target date would be earlier than the trading deadline.
metsguyinmichigan Jun 26 2007 08:37 AM |
Heck, Gomez is up to .279 and has 8 steals and a couple bombs. Moises who?
Edgy DC Jun 26 2007 08:45 AM |
I'm intrigued too. But those couple of bombs still only contribute to a .384 slugging percentage. He's welcome to stick around over Ledee if and when Moises* comes back, play defense, and get his at-bats a little more spotted for him. It doesn't have to be an either-or thing. At least, I hope it doesn't.

What happens to Gomez if and when Alou and Chavez comes back....a question Gary Cohen has asked a few times the past few days.
Benjamin Grimm Jun 26 2007 09:08 AM |
That's a question that doesn't need to be answered yet.
metirish Jun 26 2007 09:14 AM |
True Yancy but I suppose the question is do you want Gomez to be the fifth outfielder, him being 21 and all that .
Benjamin Grimm Jun 26 2007 09:17 AM |
If he's playing well, and it's August? Sure. By then the New Orleans season will be almost over anyway, and he might as well stick around for the ride to the postseason, if the Mets are so fortunate. He'd be a good guy to have on the bench in the playoffs: he can run, he can play defense, and he can hit a little bit too.

I read that Lastings will play his first rehab game in low A ball tonight. If he shows that he is healthy, he might be recalled so that Gomez can (as they used to say ) "get more seasoning".
Benjamin Grimm Jun 26 2007 09:27 AM |
For the moment, at least, I'd say that Gomez is more deserving of a spot on the big league roster than Milledge is.

I can't believe Maroth had the restraint not to bean Gomez after he styled watching a foul ball, then styled again after actually hitting a fair one. Really. If LaRussa's guys weren't such good sports they'd have won.
metirish Jun 26 2007 09:48 AM |
Ron Darling said it's OK to style like that if you've hit 28 home runs.....I wonder if he were still pitching if he would feel the same way....anyway I really thought Gomez was going to go greet the fans after he hit it...Willie had a chat with him I assume about styling.

Funny about Moises, as I was just going through the archives and found my Christmas Carol about him (to "Away in a Manger") was an ignored prayer to his uncle. Always in some danger
Frayed Knot Jul 03 2007 10:57 AM |
btw, He'll apparently resume "baseball activities" next week in Florida.
Johnny Dickshot Jul 03 2007 10:57 AM |
That's funny
Centerfield Jul 03 2007 12:50 PM |
I had forgotten about the bees. Awesome.
Farmer Ted Jul 03 2007 12:55 PM |
I was always skeptical about that "whole piss on your hands to toughen up the skin" thing. He and Posada both.
metirish Jul 03 2007 01:02 PM |
I'm wanting to find a silver lining here,Alou comes back by the end of July and finds his hot bat by the end of August and helps propel the Mets into the play-offs and glory.
Benjamin Grimm Jul 03 2007 01:05 PM |
That would be nice.
cleonjones11 Jul 03 2007 03:40 PM |
Not sure Moises could crack the roster..He does make less money than Carl Pavano....
cleonjones11 Jul 03 2007 03:45 PM |
How about Moises and Mike Carp to Texas for Victor Diaz
Nymr83 Jul 03 2007 04:56 PM |
Diaz is hitting .250 and has a grand total of 1 walk in 104 plate appearences, if you're going to say stupid things at least ask for the Mets to get someone good.
iramets Jul 03 2007 05:35 PM |
Okay.
cleonjones11 Jul 03 2007 08:40 PM |
we have someone good... Moises Alou
cleonjones11 Jul 03 2007 08:43 PM |
Diaz 9 homers and 25 RBI's in 100 at bats..Oh he wasnt good enough to be a Met meathead
Edgy DC Jul 03 2007 09:33 PM |
And you're welcome to support him.
Elster88 Jul 04 2007 06:02 PM |
What happens when Moises come back?
iramets Jul 04 2007 06:07 PM |
If you heard Omar on Chris Carlin's show this morning, you'd guess that Omar would rather cut off his dick than cut Franco.
Elster88 Jul 04 2007 06:09 PM |
I missed it but some caller was complaining about it on a later show. That's what made me think of this topic. Ugh. Edit: And ouch.
cleonjones11 Jul 04 2007 06:38 PM |
How about Franco cuts off Omars dick on SNY's first pay-per-view hosted by Chris Carlin.
