Went to a theology seminar tonight that was held in a bar!

Theology On Tap - June 14

Assumption and Immaculate Conception parishes are sponsoring a Theology on Tap program. We meet on Thursday, June 14 at Mickey Spillane’s in the upstairs room at 7:30 PM. Drinks will be half price until 8:00 PM. We welcome Father Dan O’Reilly of Resurrection Church. Father is a graduate of Regis HS, Princeton University, and St. Joseph’s Seminary (class of 2003). Father will talk from 8:00 to 9:00 PM. Come and find out if you are really smarter than a fifth grader (the topic for the evening). Anyone aged 21 to 121 is welcome!

Well it was interesting anyway, the topic was on the Nicene Creed and how that is almost lost on Catholics these days because its been repeated so often (every week at Mass) that the meanings become lost, hence the "Are you really smarter than a fifth grader" since most CCD and other forms of public Catholic education (unless you of course go to private and prep-schools) ends right around 6th to 8th grade.

So... are you smarter than a fifth grader?

And if not, would it matter ,since envy is a sin?

We don't talk much about church here, do we? I stopped willingly going to church except when my daughter drags me there because of the mass exodus these days away from the liturgy.
I'm not into Praise Clubs and handwaving and rapture and witnessing and "Passing the Peace" and all that stuff and it's a growing trend. I'll do my praying at home thanks. Try to convince my parents of that though, sigh.

Anyway, I say Bravo to the Catholics for their rituals and long may they live.
(In our church we switched back and forth from the Nicene and Apostle's Creeds, that was enough excitement for me)

I know in judaism 121 is the age that Moses lived to and the age that someone would mention if they were asking for old age ("may i live to be 121"), I had no idea it held any significance in catholicism, do they also trace it to Moses or to someone else?

I've gone to see the lamentably now-retired Theodore Cardinal McCarrick at the Four Provinces. He told some off-color jokes he got from Red Freaking Buttons.

Is the Four Provinces still there? My sister took me there when she was at American University. Which was like 18 years ago.

Yup, though they recently changed their name to the Ireland's Four Fields, or something. I can take you back there, though Nanny O'Brien's across the street is still the best Irish pub in town.
