W. Pleasure: Mets-Phils IGT (Game 1)

Johnny Dickshot
Jun 29 2007 08:01 AM

Anyone know the enemy?

Your starter in Game 1 vs. El Duque is JD Durbin, who so far has allowed 7 ER in 2/3rds of an inning for an ERA of 94.50.

Watch LoDuca today: Game 2 starter Cole Hamels suggested he might get in the way of a fastball as a result of his HR last time they opposed one another. Plus, I dunno if you saw today's Snooze, but he (LoDuca) apparently told the press to fuck off and start bothering his Hispanic teammates instead.

I'm interested to see if they go for the sweep aggressively by packing the B-Teamers into game one, and save the regulars for Hamels.

The Lo Duca story seems like a classick tabloid sensationalism.

Jun 29 2007 08:31 AM

LoDuca seemed pissed to say the least, here is one quote, and on a day the Immigration Bill was shot down no less.

]

"I'll do this (interview), but you need to start talking to other players," Lo Duca announced loudly after he was approached by a radio reporter after the Mets-Cardinals series finale was washed out by rain. "It's the same three or four people every day. Nobody else wants to talk. Some of these guys have to start talking. They speak English, believe me."

Back to the game, there hardly seems a better place to play to get the offence going again.

LoDuca: The catcher with a fiery personality, which we always longed for

Edgy DC

It sounds to me like Lo Duce was extracting the urine a little bit.

Good, LoDuca hits against Hamels.

Switch in Gomez, Easley and PLoD, leave the rest of the guys in there for Game 2.

With the lefty going tonight, I woulda given Gotay a start this afternoon.

To do:

1. Kick ass.
2. Take names.

Jun 29 2007 11:48 AM

is there a rain delay?

metirish
Jun 29 2007 11:54 AM

First inning in progress, one on and two out for Hernandez.

metirish
Jun 29 2007 11:58 AM

Durbin struck out the side in the first,Hernandez struck out Utley and Howard in the bottom of the first.

no score.

Wright leads off the 2nd with a double and Delgado KABOOMS him home.

2-0 Good Guys.

Edgy DC
Jun 29 2007 12:07 PM

Delgado kicks ass. Delgado can also be relied on to take names.

Wondering whether Willie was thinking of running Franco out for game two.

Wondering, if so, whether Willie might be reconsidering.

Edgy DC
Jun 29 2007 12:11 PM

Aah. Aaron Rowand takes one of those runs back. Boo, Aaron, boo.

Edgy DC
Jun 29 2007 12:20 PM

Jose Reyes hits his Bruce Boisclair homer. We freakin' rool.

It was number four. Guh!

Johnny Dickshot

Rastro with an RBI double.

Howie Rose: Delgado's 2 ABs this afternoon showcased his "best swings against fastballs in a long time."

Edgy DC
Jun 29 2007 12:41 PM

Delgado has his second extra-base hit.

The good news is that they're going to try and leave this poor lamb Durbin in there to save as much of their pen as they can for the second game. It's important for the Mets to chase him as early as possible.

Johnny Dickshot
Jun 29 2007 12:42 PM

El Duque single scores Castro from 2nd.

(shoulda been out but Barajas couldn't corral the ball)

Johnny Dickshot
Jun 29 2007 12:45 PM

Ledee scores on the Wild Pitch, 6-1.

Edgy DC
Jun 29 2007 12:46 PM

His ERA is down to 27.00.

Johnny Dickshot

Delgado is 3-3 after an infield smash off Howard's glove.

1st & 3rd for the Big Jew.

Johnny Dickshot

green to face a reliever.

Edgy DC

Delgado scores the knockout punch.

Jacobs, Petit, and Psomas are going to have to have a good day or Minaya will win the day on the trade.

Hey, get posting. Philly's got a rally going here, with one in (Coste homers?), two on, and Rowand up.

Frayed Knot
Jun 29 2007 01:38 PM

Ducky walks two with two outs making for the first tightrope walking spot of the day for him.
Rowland up, two on, two out.

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 29 2007 01:39 PM

That knockout punch doesn't look as final as it may have seemed.

The Phillies are getting up off the mat.

Edgy DC
Jun 29 2007 01:40 PM

Well, he knocked the starter out.

This is baseball. It still takes 27 outs to win.

Except, you know, Wednesday.

Frayed Knot
Jun 29 2007 01:41 PM

Aaaah, he was just toying with them.

Edgy DC
Jun 29 2007 01:41 PM

On that note, Rowand fans.

Seven on the day for the 33+-year-old Orlando Hernandez.

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 29 2007 01:42 PM

Okay, Rowand fanned.

Sigh of relief.

Mets still lead by 4 with three innings left to play.

Benjamin Grimm

Looks like Hernandez threw 29 pitches that inning.

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 29 2007 01:55 PM

Should Hernandez pitch the 7th?

6, 7, and 8 hitters due up for the Phillies.

Let's see...

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 29 2007 01:56 PM

Nope, Mota is in. No double switch. Mota's due up third in the 8th inning.

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 29 2007 02:01 PM

Two-run homer for Wes Helms.

If Valadius was here, this would be his post:

Benjamin Grimm

Note to self: No Schaefer for Mota today.

Jun 29 2007 02:03 PM

Let's score 11 runs.

Benjamin Grimm

7th inning ends 6-4. Coming up for the Mets: Wright, Delgado, Green.

A run or two this inning would be nice. A little breathing room would be nice, with Utley and Howard due up next inning.

Jun 29 2007 02:05 PM

Rollins flied out to Green to end the inning..

Johnny Dickshot

We gotta stop getting caught stealing, like Reyes, or jogging into DPs, like Beltran/. Phils have too much O.

Frayed Knot
Jun 29 2007 02:14 PM

I have no clue who any of these Philly pen guys are.

Meanwhile, our pen was the main pack o' culprits during the 3-game sweep they had at our place last time.
We need more runs.

Howard's going to be the last batter Pedro sees one way or the other.
The pitcher's slot is up after that and Burrell is on the bench. Gotta bring Smith in for him.

Castro & Gotay both go warning track ... but have nothing to show for it.

Wagner in to face 7 - 8 - 9 ... and it seems to me that Manual has already run through most of his bench.

Yikes, I walked away for a little while and it's 6-5, and fasten-your-seatbelt time.

Glad it's the bottom of the order. The bad part of that is if there are any baserunners, the top of the order gets to try to drive them in.

I'd really like to start this series, and this day, with a win.

C'mon Billy!

Another win tonight and the lead over the Phillies would be a fairly nice 5 games.

I didn't want to lose a game we were leading the whole time and then go face Hamels tonight.

The Phils scored 4 unanswered after I came back to my desk.

I have to quit work for the sake of the Mets.
