The rainout pushes everyone back one slot, so Friday's DH will see El Duque in the day game and Maine at night. And I guess that keeps the rotation intact until early next week without any immediate call-ups. Saturday = Sosa (last pitched Monday) Sunday = Perez (Tuesday) Monday = Glavine (Wed) Then Tuesday in Colorado looks like the first problem since it would be Ducky with only 3 days off. No days off thru the AS break.

theres also Brian Lawrence... if its a one-time thing i don't think they'd want to callup and disrupt humber to send him right back down... though if sosa or perez looks serious he could get the call.

Maybe he hurt it pulling the ball-on-a-string trick he kept doing during Saturday's game. We need to fire the ball-on-a-string coach. P.S. Any word on who was sent down or DL'd for the Pelfrey move? Gotta take care of that one before dealing with Tuesday. I assumed it would be Sosa when I first heard this last night but if he's talking about not even missing a turn ...

Sosa was DL'd, he should only miss friday because the Mets don't need a 5th starter again thanks to the all-star break until july 16th.

Perez is missing his next two starts, as per Mets.com and therefore is also likely headed for a DL stint, as he'd be eligible to come off at the end of the ASB. Your rotation leading up to the all-star break: at Colorado Mon: Glavine vs. Jason Hirsch Tue: TBA vs. Aaron Cook Wed: Maine vs.Josh Fogg at Houston Thu: TBA vs. Jason Jennings Fri: Pelfrey vs. Wandy Rodrigez Sat: Glavine vs. Woody Williams Sun: TBA vs. Roy Oswalt At least one of those TBA starts will require a roster move (Jason Vargas/Brian Lawrence/Dave Williams?) Apparently Randolph has said he wants to have Hernandez pitch on Sunday at Houston (giving him some extra rest) but that plan may go in the crapper. As it stands, he'd be getting an extra day simply by using him Thursday. Saving him until Sunday would mean a second roster move, or using Sele for a start.

Sele got into 4 games in all of June and hasn't pitched in 11 or 12 days.

Last time Vargas pitched Mets got 5 in the ninth to keep him from getting an L. He fires up the team! Go Vargas!

I think every guy on the Mets staff has enough control over his fate so the only thing to be feared is their own failure. There's certainly enough room on most major league staves to accomodate all succuessful pitchers.

With only one remaining start for each before the ASB, strange that the Mets would give Maine the extra day of rest rather than El Duque (both pitched in Friday's doubleheader).

News from the Snooze... ] PITCHING IN: LHP Dave Williams joined the Mets and threw a bullpen session as pitching coach Rick Peterson observed. Williams is expected to be activated to start Sunday's game. He figures to take Sandy Alomar Jr.'s roster spot since Paul Lo Duca's two-game suspension will be completed tonight, making Alomar expendable. Williams, who had surgery on Jan. 31 to repair a herniated disk, said side-to-side mobility with his neck is slightly limited since the procedure. If either Oliver Perez (back) or Jorge Sosa (hamstring) is unable to take his first turn after the All-Star break, Williams could remain in the rotation. Otherwise, he figures to assume a long-relief role and jeopardize Aaron Sele's roster spot. Randolph suggested Perez is more likely to reenter the rotation immediately after the All-Star break. Perez lightly threw yesterday in Port St. Lucie, while Sosa has been throwing at 150 feet.

Start Alomar tonight. Keep him until the break. Send down Ledee. Experiment with LoDuca as a part-time outfielder. Re-assess after the break.

A key difference is that Lo Duca has played 111 career games in the outfield. I certainly don't think he'll be good defender, just a better righthanded option that'll get Castro into more games.

I certainly don't think he'll be good defender, just a better righthanded option that'll get Castro into more games. i was actually completely unaware of that, was he always as slow as he is now? edit- baseball-reference shows 35 games in LF and 3 games in RF, wheres your info coming from? i see 76 games at 1B too... 76+35 = 111, might your source have added games at 1st to games in left and then also ignored the 3 games in rf?

Apparently a misreading of the same data. Sorry. He's slow, but probably no (or not much) slower than Alou at this point. Again, it's not a good solution, and it may have been a better one a few weeks ago. It's very tempting to see if Castro can sustain that productivity over an increased workload.

agreed on Castro, mostly because i wouldn't mind him taking over next year if the alternative is giving a 36 year-old LoDuca more than 2 years.

Will LoDuca be back with the Mets?,Ronny Paulino of the Pirates is apparently on Omar's radar.
