Lastings Being Lastings

He played his first post-injury game last night for the Mets GCL team.
He was the DH.
He went 1 - 3.
The hit was a double.
Then he got thrown out trying to steal third.

Y'know? That's some of the kind of spirit the team seems to have been missing recently.

I'm not sure where the irony is being placed.

No irony intended.
We have commented here during the Mets' recent slump about how lifeless they have looked. (Other words have been used)
I'm just saying that this move (the steal attempt) is what McCarver would call an "error of enthusiasm".
And I believe an injection of enthusiasm is what the club needed during its recent doldrums and Lastings certainly plays the game enthusiastically.
That's all.

I don't know that getting caught stealing third is necessarily an "error."

What was the score? How many outs were there?

The attempted steal may have been a smart move that just didn't work.

Or it may have been a stupid blunder.

trying to steal 3B is generally stupid with 0 or 2 outs, i havent seen the situation that Milledge faced though. He JUST got off the DL, I'd think he won't be in Flushing before the all-star break.

Like gomez trying to steal third yesterday in the 8th inning, and getting thrown out to end the inning?

is that what the team needs?

that was stoopid too.

I don't think folks have particularly said that the Mets have looked lifeless. I've never known a team to go through a slump with a broad opinion suggesting that they looked real lively despite the slump, but I don't think they've been lifeless, and I haven't read other folks saying that.

I think the Mets have had no shortage of people willing and able to go 1-3 and ruining the base hit with a caught stealing.

Um, they are 8-1 in their last 9 games.

Slump's been over for a little while now.

When the length of the hot streak exceeds the length of the slump (and the lineup shows some hitting consistency), only then may I feel that this team is going somewhere. Until then the 2007 Mets are shrouded in doubt.

Does the 4-game first-place lead and 46-33 record make you think the team is going anywhere? JW.

It seems to be a disease these days. Yesterday a player for LA did the same thing. Julio Lugo for Boston too.

You already know im not a big Millege fan....Buerhle is a tough lefty..free agent to be I admit..

Carlos Gomez in left

Or Milledge in left and Gomez can replace project sunset in right next year.

Just a thought.. Can never have too much pitching

Of 16 teams in the league, we're seventh in rightfielder production, and we're 14th in leftfielder production.

And our best offensive players at those positions, even when healthy, are among the worst defensive players at those positions.

Why would we move a corner outfielder (who hasn't even gotten a chance yet) for a starting pitcher, where we remain second in ERA?

If we want to get some wins on days when a Pelfrey is pitching, we should hit for the guy.
