"Switch" HRs

Beltran going deep from each side of the plate Saturday became the first MLer to do so since ... well, since Beltran himself not quite a year ago. It also adds to an odd Met record in that they now have had 17 such "switch" HRs in their history, more than any other NL team. Obviously part of why that's surprising is that they're younger than most NL squads. But the really weird part is that they had none for nearly 20 years - until Mazzilli did it in 1979 - and were in their 30th season before getting their second: HoJo in 1991. Since 1993 there's been a deluge which has included: Hundley (5 times), Bonilla (4), Beltran (2), Reyes (2), plus Tony Clark & Carl Everett once each.

You would think Eddie Murray would be on that list.

Murray & Chili Davis hold the ML "record" for those with 11 each -- but apparently Murray never had any as a Met.

Mookie got two for the Mets once, but hit them both righthanded against Shane Rawley. Eddie only double dipped once as a Met, lefthanded both times. Roberto Alomar doubled up twice lefthanded against Tony Armas, because, as we heard a thousand times, "Roberto really struggling to find himself from the right side." Those are the best candidates I can think of who fell short. Everett actually hit two out four times as a Met, but, as noted, only once after switching batter's boxes.
