What Would You Do.

With my team,I've really tried everything to get my team up the standings, made recent trades, picked up players and dropped others.

I know my team has more than a few sluggers who are not doing a lot and have terrible AVG but really there is nothing on the waiver wire to replace them with,I think my pitching is OK,yeah I could drop Maddux and such but again nothing much better to be had, unless I make trades but who would want them?....

I'm not going to win this but would like input from you guys.

1. get Chase Utley off your bench
2. you're not going anywhere in saves, so its time to "cheat"- trade your closer for hitting and put a starting pitcher with reliever eligibility into the RP spot.
3. you aren't gaining many points in SB and Young is hurting your BA, trade him for a guy who will hit for a higher average without the steals, there are still points for you to gain in HR/RBI/R
4. don't lose to steve

Utley's the best player at his position. No question he has to play.

You don't really have a choice but to be patient with guys like Delgado, Burrell, Willis, and Chavez. These are guys who almost have to get better in the second half.

NYMR's right about saves too. You're probably going to wind up with two points in the SV category whether you keep Cordero or not, so see what you can get for him.

Maddux is one of your better pitchers, so don't drop him. Andy Sonnanstine, though...

You're 63 IP above where you should be if you want to stay under the 1450 IP limit, and your ERA and WHIP suggest you've got too much quantity and not enough quality. I'd drop three starters for the best available relievers in terms of ERA and WHIP, then trade Cordero for an ace starter.

And make sure your lineup is full every day, or at least as full as possible.

Take chances with young guys who could break out. I think McGowan has enough upside to hold on to. Jeremy Hermida is available and can probably give you at least as much as Austin Kearns.

Also keep your eyes on the injured guys on the waiver wire. I've had some very good luck grabbing guys who were cut because they got hurt (i.e. Rickie Weeks made it very easy to stash Lugo on the bench until he starts hitting, Kenny Rogers was set to return right when I was looking for another starter). Somebody like Lyle Overbay might be worth a grab when he gets close to returning.

i think his ERA and WHIP are beyond help, trade for hitting. I did not notice his innings pace was so high, so i wouldnt put more starters in there, but dropping 3 starters for relievers is an extreme and unncessary move when W's and K's are the pitching categories in which you have the most room for movement, and the later it gets in the year the more impossible it becomes to change your non-counting stats (whip, era, ba) by alot... a guy can have a 5 homer, 15 rbi, 10 run, 5 steal week to really give you a boost at any time but even a guy who goes .500 (14-28) on the week has barely helped your BA at this stage.

Traded Griffey and Cordero for Ortiz and Crisp, lets see how that goes.
