Decent trivia question

Once in a while my Mets desktop calendar has a question. Today's page stumped me -- and I was really surprised at the answer.

The highest paid player on the 1986 Mets?

I would have guessed Gary Carter, but you said the answer was surprising, so I'll try a different veteran:

Ray Knight?

George Foster is also a possibility, I guess, but his contract was four years old by then, so I would think that Carter was making more than him.

Carter was the highest paid player in baseball for ten minutes or so there.

Ding ding ding! According to the calendar -- and I stress that I am relying in its accuracy -- it was George Foster making $2.8 million. I thought for sure it would have been Keith or Carter.

I have that calendar in my office but haven't torn off a page since like Tues.
I usually do a week at a time these days.
