Mariano Rivera has notched save number 425, passing John Franco on the all-time list.

He also leads Franco in the all-important career criminal negigence list.

At least AFAIK Rivera has yet to attempt to get into the ear of TPTB in Da Bronx and mold the team the way The Cap tried to.

And while its due to fact that the Yankees haven't even started the process of finding a successor he hasn't tried to sabotage his likely successor in an attempt to keep his job ala Johnny Boy Franco.

=;)

Um, what's with the emoticon? Do you actually mean that or what?

What emoticon is that anyway? I think there are two sets of eyes there.

The extent of Franco's (and Leiter as well) involvement in actually being in Phillips/Willpon's ear about who to get and who should leave both players as well as coaches and managers has never really gotten past the alleged stage as far as urban legends go.

As well as the extent of Franco's attempts to "sabotage" Armando Benitez in a coup attempt to regain his closer role.

The emoticon is there to acknowledge that yes I understand that right now its mostly hearsay and innuendos and probably stuff that we will never know so I don't somehow start a "John Franco and Al Leiter were the real GMs of the 1999-2004 Mets" flame war.

Teddy Martinez would be proud.

A wink. To say that what I said in that post isn't to be taken seriously.
