Trade Deadline...
DocTee Jul 16 2007 08:15 PM |
A's send Jason Kendall to Cubs for minor league pitcher Jerry Blevins and backup backstop Rob Bowen, thus paving the way for Mike Piazza to resume some catching duties when he returns from DL.
|
MFS62 Jul 17 2007 09:19 AM |
Maybe this should become the official Trade and Trade Rumor thread up until the deadline.

Rumor: the Mets can totally get Oswalt if they'd just offer up Heilman and a bag of balls.
|
metirish Jul 17 2007 09:32 AM |
I wouldn't make that deal,Heilman has pitched good this week.
|
Edgy DC Jul 17 2007 09:40 AM |
Plus it's a trick. That bag of balls is actually Wright's scrotum.
|
duan Jul 17 2007 10:30 AM |
is David being put out to stud already.

Not if they make him a gelding he's not.

I don't know whether or not you'd call Mike Celizic "fairly reputable." I've never heard of him before. But I did spot this paragraph in an article on MSNBC.com about how we should expect a dull trading deadline this year:
While getting Roy Oswalt would certainly be nice (especially given the ages of Glavine, Hernandez, and Pedro) I think their more immediate need is a bat and not an arm.
|
metirish Jul 17 2007 01:41 PM |
Houston would probably start with Milledge and end with Maine with players they would want, and some others in between.
|
TheOldMole Jul 18 2007 03:01 AM |
If it was alphabetical, they'd start with Maine and end with Milledge, and they'd also have to throw in Pedro and Fernando Martinez.
|
DocTee Jul 19 2007 01:37 PM |
Cubs remain active, send SS Cesar Izturis to Pittsburgh, paving the way for Jack Wilson's departure from the steel city.
|
Edgy DC Jul 19 2007 01:38 PM |
Is he the good Izturis or the not-as-good Izturis?

Mr. Postseason has another chance at postseason play on his third go-around with the wild-card leading Indians.
|
Johnny Dickshot Jul 27 2007 02:36 PM |
I just assumed Lofton had long retired.
|
Willets Point Jul 27 2007 02:45 PM |
Lofton played for the Dodgers in the NLDS against the Mets last fall.

Phils beat Mets to the punch, land ChiSox 2B Tad Iguchi
|
Rockin' Doc Jul 27 2007 05:18 PM |
The Phillies didn't waste any time getting a fill in for the injured Chase Utley. The Phils got Iguchi for 21 year old right handed pitcher, Michael Dubee who is 4-4 with one save in 50 appearances for the Phillies Sally League (A) affiliate.
|
Nymr83 Jul 27 2007 05:35 PM |
I like to think that i know prospects, but I've never heard of this guy. Looks like the Phillies got a steal and I have to wonder why the mets couldn't top such a #### offer.
|
smg58 Jul 28 2007 10:54 AM |
Iguchi is not playing better than the guys the Mets have.

As mentioned by ira in the game thread, there was some hot hot ex-Met action as Ty Wigginton was traded to Houston for Dan Wheeler.
|
metirish Jul 28 2007 08:00 PM |
Poor Dan ..
|
Edgy DC Jul 28 2007 08:02 PM |
I suspect that he'll be flipped right back over.

I wouldn't be so sure. The earlier rumors on Wiggy was that he'd go to the Yankees for Scott Proctor. I'm thinking Tampa just wants to build something along the the lines of a respectable bullpen before that talented young rotation forms a suicide pact out of frustration.
|
DocTee Jul 28 2007 08:45 PM |
Guess this means Lidge is staying in Houston

metirish - "Astros designate Ensberg for assignment."
|
DocTee Jul 29 2007 07:06 PM |
Apparently it's related to a shoulder injury he sustained awhile back. I see San Diego has also released another once-promising third-baseman, Russell Branyan.
|
Frayed Knot Jul 31 2007 10:30 AM |
Rumor has the Yanx sending Scott Proctor to the Dodgers for Wilson Betemit.
|
Edgy DC Jul 31 2007 11:19 AM |
We're looking at this perhaps a little too much through Yankee goggles. This seems to hurt a potential pennant rival.
|
Frayed Knot Jul 31 2007 11:26 AM |
I don't really think it helps or hurts either team too much.

Torre on WFAN the other day seemed to like the idea of getting Chamberlain up to see if he can help out. I feel that this trade was made to pave the way for another trade that brings in a reliever, but we'll see.

Pirates trade some guy for Matt Morris.
|
Nymr83 Jul 31 2007 04:21 PM |
Rajai Davis a speedy 26 year old centerfielder without much major league experience was the guy traded for Morris. I like this move by the Pirates.

Things could be worse, we could have traded for Jose Contreras who just gave up a 1st-inning hit to everyone in the Skank lineup tonight except Mr I-Want-500.
I don't quite see it. Morris has been residing in mediocre land for a while now and is signed for some $10mil per thru next year with the Giants not picking up any money. Not sure how he fits into Pittsburgh's plan right now, assuming they even have one.
|
Nymr83 Jul 31 2007 06:06 PM |
imo he makes the team better, i dont know/care what the "plan" is because its not my team

Oh Rajai Davis, he hit a double off us last week, IIRC. Serious speed.
