For the coffee drinkers out there, name just one reason why you drink coffee regularly.

Since I've had days without coffee and survived quite well, I go with Habit, dunno why.

I usually don't drink it, but I may have to today...

I like the taste but can't handle the caffeine too well. Decaf during the week, usually a cup after lunch, and maybe a cup of leaded on the weekend.

I drink tea. One mug of it every morning to go with my Pop-Tarts.

I almost never drink coffee. The last time I had it was at a hotel breakfast buffet in Japan where the tea was awful. (Green tea in Japan can be much stronger than it is here. At its worst it's foul and bitter.)

Two cups of Columbian coffee every morning,I'd do fine if I had to go with out so I guess I drink it because I like it.

I don't need it in a way that I wouldn't be able to function without it.

Reasons 1, 2, 3 and 6 all apply. I voted taste 'cause I do like it alot. Cant' drink as much of it these days as I used to and wish I still could.

It occurred to me the other day that caffeine is one of the few substances that are both added to and removed from products.

I noticed that Diet Pepsi, for example, has a decaffeinated variety and an extra-caffeinated variety.

You don't see that with salt, or trans-fats, or vitamins.

I'm on the first one. If I looked at it objectively. I might consider myself a caffeine addict. Thing is, I really only need a cup first thing in the morning. I rarely drink it during the day... I'd rather chug water all day.

I drink way too much coffee-- but the caffeine doesn't really seem to get me. It's more of a habit/comfort thing

the day just doesn't seem right without a cup of coffee in the morning, but i think for the most part i can live without the caffeine.

its somewhere between the habit and the taste, but since i can forgo the coffee if its bad, then that leaves me with taste.

I drink coffee because I like it and it has become a comfortable part of my morning routine. With or without caffeine is fine with me, so long as it has a good, rich flavor.

I used to drink coffee in the morning only. But since I enjoy tea so much, I switched to tea in the morning years ago. I start each day with Barry's Gold Blend Irish tea. It's strong, but smooth.

Now the only time I drink coffee is if I go out to eat since it's nearly impossible to get a proper cup of tea in a restaurant or diner. Usually they hand you a tepid mug of water with a bag of wretched Lipton tea on the side. BLECH!

Yancy, I'm surprised to hear that about the green tea in Japan since I always heard they had the best green tea.

No coffee. No tea either unless you count the occasional Snapple in the morning.

I'm no tea expert, but some (not all) of that stuff in Japan was just awful. Very strong and bitter. Some of the restaurants we ate in served stronger tea than others.

I've cut down a lot. I like good coffee and drink it black. At home, I have my
own four cup coffee maker (2 mugs) to start the day usually with fresh ground
Sumatra Mandheling while KB is ok with store brand with lots of milk
and sugar. At work we have pre-packed Starbucks House Blend and I'll have
a small cup or three in the morning but almost never finish a whole cup be-
fore it turns cold. I have to stop by noon and never drink coffee afterwards
unless it's espresso on a weekend night after dinner with some sambuca.

I switched from black tea to greeen about a year ago. I've got anti-oxidants coming out of my ears.

Coffee... can't touch the stuff. I started on the tea senior year of college when I realized that the reason my friends were cruising and I was struggling was that they were wired on joe during 8:00 AM class and I was napping.

OK, that was one of the reasons.

I started on coffee in January of 1986, after bringing a xmas gift 4-cup coffeemaker to my kollege dorm room.

We had a 6-week trimester thingy in January where you took just one or two classes everyday instead of 4 or 5 a few times week. I loved it. I took Shakespeare and drank a pot of black coffee everyday after class while reading.

I've always had it black but that's because I couldn't really afford milk or sugar. I stole my coffee from the caf. I still drink it black and love coffee while driving and reading.

A few years ago I had to cut back drastically on coffee after 4 pm. I also developed a taste for rich flavors -- not flavored coffee but tasty rich roasty beans. We have a grinder and I like to shop the foofooest stores for the great smells.

Come to think of it, I once bought a tin of Gunpowder green, which is supposed to be a really popular Japanese tea, and I found it to be extremely bitter. I'm ashamed to admit my favorite green tea is from Dunkin Donuts...not bitter at all.
