Bust through it in one day?

Break it up into two days?

Who's been? I'm thinking of going. Help a brother out.

You can do it in a day if all you want to do is walk around and not spend too
much time in one area of The Hall. The town is really nice, worth spending
some time in too instead of zippin' in and out.

Let us know when you plan on going, we have a piece of property in the area
that should be visited and if we have nothing planned would make a day trip
of it.

I always plug it when I get the chance, but this place used to be good for lunch
in nearby Oneonta although I haven't been there in about four years ...

It's not a real huge place (and it's a very small town) so it is do-able in one day -- although if you're a real completionist sort who wants to sniff out every corner you may want to break it into two, particularly if Day 1 doesn't start in the AM. Day and a half might be the ideal time.

Summer is obviously the most popular time of year to go (things will be booked for fifty miles around during induction week) although the best time might be the Fall IMO; fewer kids, less crowded, easier to get hotels, and real good weather 'round those parts at that time. Of course there might be some important baseball games you might not want to miss at that time of year.

Thanks, both of you. The website said a lot of people don't finish in a day and I didn't know what to make of that. I'm going to take a train/bus there from Boston, probably getting there the night of August 15th, check the place out on the 16th (Thursday), and shove off the 17th. Maybe. I might go to Binghamton the next night and catch Carlos Muniz and little Mets. Anyway, it's a good few weeks after induction and if I do end up there during the week, I'll hopefully be okay hotel/crowd wise.

KC, I'll let you know when I figure things out a bit more.

It's a pretty town; there are lots of other things to do there.

How long it takes you to go through it would depend on whom you are with. I've been there three times, once with my parents, once with my baby daughter, and once with two teenage boys...all three times took less than a day.

But one day I want to go alone with my husband, and I know that we will take our time and really enjoy it.

Cooperstown calls itself "City of Museums," so there's plenty of other things to see. I recommend the Farmer's Museum, which is surprisingly good.

Definetly do not try to finish in one day. I had a tough time finishing in two, albeit with some walking around time in the town as well.

I second the Farmer's Museum as a good place to visit if you like history. You can get a HOF/Farmer's Museum combo ticket.

Soccer HOF, too. Cool. Maybe I'll need a car afterall.

So one vote for don't even try to get it done in one day, one for it depends who you're dragging along with you, and a few for one day is no problem. I'm meeting peeps in Boston and when they go home, I'm just going to bob around a bit and explore myself. I mean by myself. I may check the town out a few days. It sounds like my kinda place.

How do you pronounce Oneonta?

One thing is, they have an awesome library. If you're interested in doing some research, look ahead at what they got, let them know when you're coming, and they'll have materials ready for you when you arrive. You could easily spend a day doing that. (They only help X number at a time, and not walk-ins IIRC, so call ahead if interested)

There is some schlockiness along with the charm, I should warn you. LOTS of crappy souvenier stores selling crappy souveniers.

Why would you want to see that, Yogi's place in Montclair, NJ is MUCH better =;)

jk, that was from a review of Yogi's place by a complete causal "Oh I like both NY teams but I really don't follow the rest of baseball" fan that I know. Its a nice place and all, but come on, its NO Cooperstown.

Alot of baseball themed stuff around, not sure if its still there but Pete Rose has his name linked to a muesum up there as well that (well last time I was there) had some cool baseball related exhibits
