Willie immediately throws Anderson in the fray.
Milledge's 0 for San Diego (0-12 w/ no walks) helped open a spot for Anderson to make his 2007 debut.

I'd like to know why that spot is the #2 hole.

Who hits number two on this team since before spring training gets too much
attention for my taste.

I think revenege will carry the day.

Welcome back Abordick, Marlon Anderson, wearing Julio Franco's 23!

Can we check Reyes' hearing? Second time this week he slid on a steal attempt without realizing the ball had been hit.

Pour it on, Mets.

That one out was a lucky one.

Vin Scully, while still amazing, is strangely unprepared, recalling, as Ruben Gotay came up, an old player called Julio Gotay, without knowing that he was Ruben's uncle.

Things look good for win number 299 tonight (6-0, as I type), but let's knock this sucker out and burn the bullpen for the rest of the series.

Edgy DC
Jul 19 2007 08:33 PM

That second out was gift.

Supposedly the Dodger pen has ben overworked coming in.

Mets on pace for a 54 hit, 54 run night.

Consider that between the out at 3rd and the one by Lowe (pitchers don't count) Glavine's really only tallied 2 outs so far while facing 10 and giving up 4.

Johnny Dickshot
Jul 19 2007 09:19 PM

It's astonishing how poor a decision Newhan turned out to be.

Come on Mets, Glavine isn't good enough to protect a 4-run lead. Get Marlon home.

Remember that he hit 3 or 4 HRs during ST.
Not that I (or prolly anyone) expected much from him on account of that,
but between him and Franco they really put a hole in the early season bench.

Jul 19 2007 09:40 PM

So I check the score the first time and it's 6-2 and I say "Yea!"

Then it's 6-4 and I grumble back to my chores.

Then I check again and we have 9. Yea!

Then I see bleeping Aaron Sele on the mound and I'm afraid to go back to the chores.

Frayed Knot

Dodger baserunning is saving us tonight.

Rockin' Doc
Jul 19 2007 09:43 PM

Thanks for that, because our pitchers apparently need all the help they can get.

The Mets were fortunate to get out of theat mess no worse than that.

Edgy DC
Jul 19 2007 09:43 PM

Yeah, that seemed like a hugely un-necessary sacrifice by Garciaparra.

I congratulate Sele, but I don't like Randolph going straight to the long-man there. It may be early, but it's a high-leverage spot. Go to the short man to get you out of the inning, then turn it over to Sele.

But good job, Sele.

On the bright side, Newhan was just a free-agent signing, right? He didn't cost us anything like the Johnson and Burgos trades did.

D. J. Houlton pitching for LA

What is it with ballplayers using only initials these days?

- J. J. Putz pitched in the All-Star game to J. J. Hardy.
The result was, of course, a BB

- And up in Toronto, GM J. P. Riccardi is having a tough year as both B. J. Ryan
and A. J. Burnett are on the DL

I like letting scrubeenies scatter after 1 year, especailly when you catch lightning in a bottle. Anderson was a pretty good benchie tho IIRC his magic waned as the season progressed and letting him walk was considered pretty OK around these parts.

One of the stats that the talk-radio crowd has been complaining about lately is that the
Mets haven't won a game in X numbers of weeks when we've given up more than 3 runs.

Not sure they're going to like this route any better.

I think it's when the starter gives up more than 3 runs. I found it interesting. I think the last one was the comeback against the Cubbies.

Nobody ever said that he was the Holy of Holies. (Whatever that means.)

We just don't agree with you that he's the Fount of all Evil.

Your inability to see shades of grey in this matter reminds me of that guy who sees Willie Randolph as sinister and brain damaged.

Alyssa Milano Loves L.A. Dodgers - How About All-Star Russell Martin?
by Gia Cortina

If you know anything about Alyssa Milano, you know she loves baseball...and the L.A. Dodgers in particular. After a meeting with Russell Martin the all-star catcher, some are wondering if he's a new love interest.

Apparently, Alyssa, 34, was seen flirting with Russell, 24, at the all-star game on July 11th. She was overheard, reports Us Magazine, telling a friend that she thought the catcher was cute.

However, after the meeting, the Charmed actress wrote on her blog...

"Okay, yeah, so I finally met Russell Martin. No big deal. And yeah, I was cool. Yup. And I didn't have sweaty palms. Nope. I didn't get star struck. Nope. I wasn't even weak in the knees. Nope. My upper lip did NOT start sweating nor did I get blotchy and break out in hives. Phew. Thank God not one of those embarrassing this happened. I was cool as a cucumber. No big deal."

bmfc1
Jul 24 2007 02:33 PM

I guess it's Russell Martin's turn.

OlerudOwned
Jul 24 2007 02:37 PM

I hope the Dodgers hurry up and trade Martin to the Marlins. It seems to be how we get all of our catchers, and I'd like to get a decent portion of his prime to come as a Met.
