I know it's only July and there's "plenty of baseball left to be played" but this feels like a big game. BV always said it's a big game "because it's the one we're playing today" but this one seems bigger than most. It's the "rubber game" of the road trip, it means winning a series against another first place team, and it's the day before a day off (so the result lingers until 7:10 on Tuesday). So LGM!!!

Jul 22 2007 02:31 PM

Plus if they win it, they can fulfill Irish's hope for a series sweep.

Or they could if they'd won yesterday, of course.

I can't believe Eric Stoltz is going to do us up the chute again.

Edgy DC
Jul 22 2007 03:48 PM

Lastings. What I'm talking about.

Knockout blow for Keith.

cleonjones11
Jul 22 2007 03:54 PM

Cmon Wright do what Carlos cant

cleonjones11
Jul 22 2007 03:55 PM

Thats what I'm talkin about!

Edgy DC
Jul 22 2007 03:56 PM

Cleon and Edgy, talking about the same thing.

The M-M-M-M-Mets are c-c-c-coming to k-k-k-kill me.

Edgy DC
Jul 22 2007 03:59 PM

Who do you prefer right now against Seanez --- Delgado with a runner on first, or Lo Duca with a runner on second?

Kid Carsey
Jul 22 2007 04:01 PM

Cap'n red-ass is starting to turn a little pink.

Edgy DC
Jul 22 2007 04:03 PM

I'm kind of thinking that, all things considered, Wright hurt the team with that stolen base there. The chance of Delgado getting an extra-basey against Seanez seemed greater than the chance of Lo Duca getting a hit of any kind.

cleonjones11
Jul 22 2007 04:04 PM

Well..Stultz is out...that should bode well..I see Shrek getting into the game and leading the Mets to a happy flight home

Edgy DC
Jul 22 2007 04:07 PM

Not happy right now.

cleonjones11
Jul 22 2007 04:08 PM

Steroid boy stick figure Nomar---damn

Edgy DC
Jul 22 2007 04:13 PM

Wow. Sticking with Hernandez against Furcal here.

Edgy DC
Jul 22 2007 04:14 PM

Well, that gets them out of that.

Three innings to get those back.

Edgy DC
Jul 22 2007 04:17 PM

Wow, going back to Lowe. Let's sting him again.

duan
Jul 22 2007 04:21 PM

hernandez was definitely the victim of some really dubious umpiring in the bottom of the 6th. there were 4 pitches over 2 abs that definitely looked like strikes to me that were called balls.

Edgy DC
Jul 22 2007 04:28 PM

Hernandez thought so also.

Gameday thought so also. It had three of the four balls to Gonzalez looking like strikes.

Edgy DC
Jul 22 2007 04:31 PM

On the other hand, while I still haven't learned out to interpret the Gameday pitch data, Hernandez' homer pitch to Garciaparra looks like a cookie.

Edgy DC
Jul 22 2007 04:32 PM

Cool. Tying run up, no outs, 2-3-4 coming.

Hey, Loney, out of the basepath.

Edgy DC
Jul 22 2007 04:38 PM

Mr. Eighth Inning comes up 25 feet short.

Four-three.

bmfc1
Jul 22 2007 04:41 PM

Before Loney's single that made it 2-0, did anybody else think that Loney's hitting so well, that they should walk him (the runner was on 2d) to face Ethier?

bmfc1
Jul 22 2007 04:44 PM

C'mon Carlos D...you're due!
C'mon Paulie...you're due!
C'mon Shawn...you're due!

Edgy DC
Jul 22 2007 04:45 PM

We got good Heilman today.

Hell, we got great Heilman.

Let's strip the pants off of Broxton here.

Edgy DC
Jul 22 2007 04:49 PM

That's it.

Hernandez time, right?

Edgy DC
Jul 22 2007 04:51 PM

LET'S GO METS!
LET'S GO METS!
LET'S GO METS!

Edgy DC
Jul 22 2007 04:54 PM

Why couldn't Jeter be st short for the Dodgers?

DocTee
Jul 22 2007 04:55 PM

Woo Hoo!

Edgy DC
Jul 22 2007 04:56 PM

WOO-HOOO!

Edgy DC
Jul 22 2007 04:56 PM

And how about Green running hard all the way?

DocTee
Jul 22 2007 04:57 PM

Now it's up to Ruben Go-Ahead.

What happened on the Green play?

Edgy DC
Jul 22 2007 04:58 PM

Who plays first now?

martin
Jul 22 2007 04:58 PM

what happens in extras? who will play first? anderson H? green?

martin
Jul 22 2007 04:58 PM

i think marlon anderson will move into the outfield and green will play first.

DocTee
Jul 22 2007 04:59 PM

Extras? Ye of little faith!

Edgy DC
Jul 22 2007 05:01 PM

Green hit a short fly to right and Kemp backed up before coming in fighting the sun. He was hammering hard when he reached the ball and it clanked off his glove at belly-button level.

Edgy DC
Jul 22 2007 05:01 PM

Gotta go with Anderson over Darth Vader here, I think. He's going to play first anyway, right?

martin
Jul 22 2007 05:02 PM

maybe if ambres is a rf by trade he will get in over marlon. i dunno what ambres is.

DocTee
Jul 22 2007 05:02 PM

Franco coulda done that.

duan
Jul 22 2007 05:03 PM

Castro's AB was another example of the terrible strike zone being called by the umpire. 2nd pitch HAD to be a ball, if the ones that Hernandez was getting called balls were.

DocTee
Jul 22 2007 05:04 PM

Myguess is green to first, ambres to rf

Edgy DC
Jul 22 2007 05:04 PM

Damn.

Really, Anderson gives you the matchup, plus you put him at first, keep Hernandez in to play second, and bat the pitcher in the eighth hole.

Do we move Gotay to first and keep Hernandez at second? Keep Castro in and send Lo Duca to first? Probably nothing so interesting? Stay tuned!

martin
Jul 22 2007 05:05 PM

too many andersons

Edgy DC
Jul 22 2007 05:07 PM

And I don't know what I'm talking about, because Marlon was already burned.

It's Ambres to right and Green to first.

Edgy DC
Jul 22 2007 05:10 PM

Quick work by Feliciano.

The Dodgers could throw anybody next inning. Tomko was warming, at last glance.

The Mets have the top of the order, Feliciano in the six-hole (they pulled Lo Duca), and Malomar Jr. the last man on the bench. They're looking to win it now.

Reyes is a homer short of the cycle.

bmfc1
Jul 22 2007 05:14 PM

The home plate umpire makes me think of the crooked NBA ref.

martin
Jul 22 2007 05:17 PM

looks like ambres might get a really meaningful AB in a moment. i predict he makes a name for himself.

Edgy DC
Jul 22 2007 05:18 PM

He has had a crap game, hasn't he?

It's so great to see Beltran take the outside pitch the other way. Too little of that this year.

DocTee
Jul 22 2007 05:21 PM

Chip Ambres has a bit of that Willie McGee/ET look goin' on.

DocTee
Jul 22 2007 05:22 PM

Chip's ahoy!

Edgy DC
Jul 22 2007 05:22 PM

Chip makes me flip!

bmfc1
Jul 22 2007 05:23 PM

Nice call Martin!

As suggested here the other day, 3 LA outs and perhaps the headlines in NY will be "Chip's Ahoy!"

DocTee
Jul 22 2007 05:24 PM

Yes, that was Irish who coined the phrase-- I merely stole it.

martin
Jul 22 2007 05:24 PM

bad post headline guess : ambres alert!

The job Wagner has done against righthanders this season, compared to last... amazin'.

martin

Jul 22 2007 05:44 PM

Holy shit! Wagner strikes out Nomar on ball 4!

DocTee
Jul 22 2007 05:46 PM

Irish, what've you been drinking to assert that the Mets could win three games in LA?

Are you clueless or just stupid?

bmfc1
Jul 22 2007 05:46 PM

"They" say that you are destined to win 60, lose 60 and it's the other 60 that decide your season. The Mets took one away from the "lose 60" column today.

I think we had quite enough Green on that play.

Heavens to Betsy, what a game.

Benjamin Grimm
Jul 22 2007 05:46 PM

The number you're looking for is 54, not 60.
