I've been gone for a few weeks and the Mets have not been on my list of things to keep track of, so let me get this straight:

Hojo is our hitting coach...Rickey is our first base coach...Willie is wearing an arm sling...Franco is once again a Brave...Delgado, Wright and Gotay have been hot...Maine and Loduca not so much...Alou's still hurt...Pedro's been throwing but has no official timetable...we are carrying four second basemen and three catchers...the forum is faster and more blue.

Anything else of importance I need to know about?

That about covers it except that some observed that maybe Reyes wasn't
the "happiest" Met the last two weeks but he seems to be getting the smile
back.

Maine just hit one out. I have to say I wasn't expecting that.

His first one! Sweet.

Our pitchers must have realized they need to take matters into their own hands!

Hojo must be doing something right.

Way to go, Maine.

They've been wearing black an awful lot but playing well. Coincidence I'm sure.

I think Bay wants to come play for the Mets.

mota's gotta go.
i was tired of the "it's spring training for him" excuses earlier this year (then go to NO!).

he's done nothing to prove himself or gain anything for himself.

Kid Carsey

He did what he had to do, att.

Nice team effort tonight. It's nice to see offensive contributions from everyone.

Up by six runs,I would imagine him and LoDuca would have had a different game plan if the score was closer.

Yeah, I need to clarify and not be dismissive ... but they need three outs
and for pitch to throw strikes. A hit here an out there and even a ding dong
mixed in ain't the end of the world when he's only got one real job to do.

Get three outs.

Anyone with a beef about Mota should look to another game to start off a
post with "he's gotta go."

Maz on SNY asking Keith what would happen to Milledge if Bob Gibson were on the mound after LM hit his home run, give me a fucking break you twat, yeah the dancing on the top step is silly but the whole team is at it.

The funny thing is that the late '80s Mets were hated around the league for
their cockiness and public display of enjoying a good ass kicking.

I kinda agree with both Maz and Keith ... it's an age thing perhaps. I enjoy
watching them celebrate and cringe deep down at the same time because
it goes against my inner baseball grain.

Kickass Mets win.

*Great* game. Felt like one of the better games from last season.

Maine = efficent, if not perfect. Totally our ace. Didn't believe the homer was going out until it cleared the fence (by more than a few feet, too). Got the curtain call (only the 2nd curtain call all season at Shea, I believe).

Very good crowd, too, especially for a Tuesday vs. the Pirates.

Most fun I've had at Shea in a while.

#7 train Express back from Shea is a GODSEND! Home by 10:15.

Re the dancing: I think it's great. Maybe it was a little much, but Reyes has a dance with EVERYBODY. Wright, Beltran, Delgado, Castro, Gomez, etc, etc. It's their thing, it's been going on for a while, it hasn't caused problems. SNY shows it all the time. Making an issue of it with Milledge would seem to be silly.

I have to admit in the top of the first I thought, crap, Maine's lost it this half. Big win for him after 2 lousy starts.

Went last night.

2 cool things -

-When Maine hit the homerun, he had this totally stoic expression on his face and I was staring at him just to see when he would finally succumb and crack a smile. He was all Spock until he hit the first step of the dugout and then he couldn't contain it anymore. Big grin.

-Between innings Sandy Alomar, Jr. was warming up Maine and as he came back into the dugout, a guy sitting in the first row behind the dugout stood up and yelled "Sandy Alomar, Jr., I love you!" Sandy looked at the guy, broke into a big smile pointed both hands at him and yelled back "No. I love YOU!"

Fun stuff.

I blame the first inning run on Green. That was a lazy fucking fly ball that he let drop in front of him for LaRoche's single. Shoulda been caught.
