I think Lastings has been fine. His throwing decisions are about as bad as you can make, but otherwise, he looks good even IMO.

call the cable guy, maybe they'll come fix it.

Do I have this right? The Mets bench for the night is LoDuca, Marlon, DeFelice, Newhan, Gotay? Only 1 of the 5 has been on the team all season.

One might think with all the important baseball on tonight, ESP-bleepin-N might have something better than World Series of Poker on. Grrrrr.
Edgy DC Jul 31 2007 06:44 PM |

Darling has, in the past, described that night as the best night of his career. Never mentioned that AMAZING detail before.

Wheels. Coming. Off.
Johnny Dickshot Jul 31 2007 07:13 PM |
Oh stop.
Johnny Dickshot Jul 31 2007 07:14 PM |
Castillo. Duh nevermind.
G-Fafif Jul 31 2007 07:21 PM |
Castillo: Second base totally his thing twice already tonight.

G-Fafif Jul 31 2007 07:23 PM |
Drop in on SNY of Maddux interview in which Greg refers to Tom as "Glavine". Seems a little cold.
G-Fafif Jul 31 2007 07:28 PM |
Jeff Suppan: Baserunner notwithstanding, still an unnecessary force for evil on the planet.
G-Fafif Jul 31 2007 07:33 PM |
Reyes doubles.
metsguyinmichigan Jul 31 2007 07:34 PM |
Phew! Good to have one in!
G-Fafif Jul 31 2007 07:36 PM |
We're witnessing history here tonight, folks.
G-Fafif Jul 31 2007 07:36 PM |
Alou missed almost 2-1/2 months and is within 15 RBI of Green.
metsguyinmichigan Jul 31 2007 07:37 PM |
Knowing about the urine thing, did the other players give him high-fives after the sac fly?
G-Fafif Jul 31 2007 07:37 PM |
Play at the plate...yeah, Alou's still 15 behind Green.
G-Fafif Jul 31 2007 07:39 PM |
If doing that hardens his hands, perhaps he should consider trying it all over his body.
Johnny Dickshot Jul 31 2007 07:41 PM |
We've had way too many guys gunned at home this year but that wasn't a dumb call. Nice play by the bad guys.
G-Fafif Jul 31 2007 07:41 PM |
That slow-motion replay of Delgado being thrown out at home doesn't really indicate how slow Delgado is.
metsguyinmichigan Jul 31 2007 07:47 PM |
Yikes. The last thing we need is our outfielders to go all Don Hahn-George Theodore.
G-Fafif Jul 31 2007 07:48 PM |
You mean a potential collision or Green's and Alou's combined RBI total?
G-Fafif Jul 31 2007 07:49 PM |
Shawn Green: In there for his defense.
metsguyinmichigan Jul 31 2007 07:50 PM |

Bad ass!
Kid Carsey Jul 31 2007 07:50 PM |
Not to dwell on it, but Delgado scoring on that is probably never a good bet.
G-Fafif Jul 31 2007 07:52 PM |
Sounds like what Moises will go on the DL with next.
Edgy DC Jul 31 2007 07:52 PM |
Shawn Green. The man's got Shea inside of him.
G-Fafif Jul 31 2007 07:55 PM |

In which case, he's due for a parking-lotectomy in about 15 months.
Gwreck Jul 31 2007 07:56 PM |
Interesting how Gary went on about how the Brewers would've been out of the inning had they played the infield in on that single that Wright got.
metsguyinmichigan Jul 31 2007 07:56 PM |
Mets not getting any breaks from the boys in blue tonight.
G-Fafif Jul 31 2007 07:58 PM |
Glavine just ran to first like a pitcher who doesn't trust his teammates to do the same.

Glavine was grumbing about getting squeezed, the radio people thought Milledge was safe.

Wright entered the night with a lifetime OPS of 1.062 at Miller Park, highlighted by the six RBIs he collected in his third game there as a rookie.

Nice move by Miller Park crowd saluting Glavine. If it were Jeff Suppan at Shea/Citi, I wouldn't do it.
Rockin' Doc Jul 31 2007 08:13 PM |
Glavine gave the Mets a solid outing, now it's up to the team to kick some ass and get this victory.
Willets Point Jul 31 2007 08:13 PM |
Is there any reason for Milwaukeeans to hate Glavine the way we hate Suppan? Probably the only enemy pitcher I wouldn't salute in this situation is Clemens.
G-Fafif Jul 31 2007 08:14 PM |
3-6-3 DP...obviously Castillo's soothing presence is the key.

metsguyinmichigan Jul 31 2007 08:17 PM |

G-Fafif Jul 31 2007 08:18 PM |
Mets in gray.
G-Fafif Jul 31 2007 08:19 PM |
Out of the seventh, Gary says "Glavine can go ice his arm," which sounds like a bit of an insult if you don't know the context.
Gwreck Jul 31 2007 08:20 PM |
With the DP, Glavine's final line is 6 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 2 K, 5 BB.
Rockin' Doc Jul 31 2007 08:20 PM |
How about a few insurance runs team? It would sure make me feel better and it would probably help Glavine's digestion.
G-Fafif Jul 31 2007 08:21 PM |
Delgado is mandated to homer at once.
G-Fafif Jul 31 2007 08:23 PM |
Delgado does not recognize what is mandatory and strikes out.
Gwreck Jul 31 2007 08:25 PM |
At least Moises is taking some pitches against Turnbow.
G-Fafif Jul 31 2007 08:25 PM |
Alou swings at none of the first four pitches he sees, somehow. Moishe on first.
Edgy DC Jul 31 2007 08:26 PM |
This guy should not have been able to bust Delgado inside like that.
G-Fafif Jul 31 2007 08:27 PM |

The Mets offense seems determined to make us sweat this one out.
metsguyinmichigan Jul 31 2007 08:31 PM |
Looks like this one is going to depend on our pen because the offense sure isn't going to do anything.
Gwreck Jul 31 2007 08:31 PM |
Heilman back out for a 2nd inning. With Smith in AAA, Feliciano struggling recently and Mota being subpar all year, I wonder if we really needed a setup man a lot more than a secondbaseman...
Willets Point Jul 31 2007 08:33 PM |
Nah, let him sweat it out. It'll be the closest he'll get to going 9 and he'll know that his pitching made the difference.
Edgy DC Jul 31 2007 08:33 PM |
Willie has buried Schoeneweis deeper than Godzilla recently. And that's after a month of good pitching.

Willets Point Jul 31 2007 08:38 PM |

Johnny Dickshot Jul 31 2007 08:39 PM |
Warren Wallace the GEICO race-car kid = funny.
Gwreck Jul 31 2007 08:39 PM |
Indeed. He lost the sling a couple of days ago but it still looks like he might not be able to signal for a righty.
Edgy DC Jul 31 2007 08:40 PM |
So, Feliciano has been un-hypnotized, right?
Gwreck Jul 31 2007 08:40 PM |

Eh. Kinda like him, although the other ad where he says "nice truck" is funnier. I'm also partial to it because if we should ever get Fios in this neighborhood I'm switching away from Time Warner (those bastards) in an instant.

Kid Carsey Jul 31 2007 08:41 PM |

Edgy DC Jul 31 2007 08:45 PM |

The bright side: everybody can see Glavine's next attempt. National broadcast on ESPN, Sunday night.

Figuratively speaking, I've all but forgotten Glavine being stuck on 299.

Let's try and stay out of the triple play, Moises.

Anybody else watching on EI? Usually, any non-Mets announcer makes me want to throw things but the Brewers TV guys are good! Daron Sutton, Bill Schroeder.

Gwreck Jul 31 2007 09:30 PM |
I forget the rule, who gets charged with the walk if Moises winds up taking two more out of the strike zone? Wise or Shouse?

I think Shouse... let's hope we find out.

Wise in this case because the count was 2-0. Each count has a rule about who gets charged in case of a mid-AB change.

What a crappy ending! I was an hour late getting into the park due to construction traffic, so I stayed for the extra frames. This was the second Brewers/Mets game I've seen over the past 2 years with a walkoff Brewers HR.
DocTee Aug 01 2007 08:14 AM |
Had you arrived on time, would you have left the game early?
Edgy DC Aug 01 2007 08:26 AM |

Only partially true, though, a real War of Attrition would have meant that we were down to Sele because we had already gotten two innings from Wagner. I'm definitely not about holding the closer out of these extra inning ties on the road.
Benjamin Grimm Aug 01 2007 08:37 AM |
I wasn't on the IGT last night, but I'm wondering if I'm the only one who wanted Heilman to pitch to Fielder? He seemed to be rocking along, and I'd rather go with the pitcher who's doing well rather than the unknown quantity in the bullpen.

TransMonk Aug 01 2007 08:44 AM |

Not at all. I was pretty pissed that I was late...mostly because it took me an hour and a half to go the last 15 miles and get through the parking lot. My wife was very cool about staying for the extra frames considering we had a ten year old in tow, a ride home that would take more than an hour and work in the morning. More people than I would have expected left after the Brewers tied the game and it was clear Glavine would not get the win. The crowd then thinned out after the bottom of each inning from the ninth on. I was very happy to see the extra baseball because I missed the first 3 innings...made me feel like I got my money's worth. It was a terribly exciting game...not necessarily well played by all involved. Each team had multiple chances to win it before the final run crossed the plate. It was nice to see a full house in Milwaukee on a Tuesday night. I don't know if I've ever seen that before. The Brewers fans were the roudiest I've ever seen. I got more crap for wearing a Mets jersey and cap to a game last night than in every other Brewer/Mets game I've attended combined. I guess winning breeds confidence. Fortunately, they're new at this...so they're pretty easy to give crap back to. While Turnbow was warming up, he threw 2 pitches in a row to the backstop drawing jeers from the fans. At one point after a Brewer groundout, Delgado started going around the horn by throwing it too high for Castillo, sending the ball into centerfield.
Edgy DC Aug 01 2007 08:48 AM |
By signing Mota for two years and backloading the deal to minimize the financial pain of the suspension, you get the idea that Omar Minaya is being punished by cosmic justice, that he deserves all the pain Mota can inflict on his team.
Centerfield Aug 01 2007 08:53 AM |
Not that this mattered in the outcome, but why was Alou being an asshole and not backing off when the centerfielder calls it?
