No more west coast trips. And let's not draw any westerners in the post-season either.

I'm not a kid anymore.

On the other hand

  • They've almost assured (about 90%) that they make it home from this trip in first place, being up by 2 1/2, with three games against LA, while Atlanta has three at home against St. Louis.

  • They got through Glavine's debacle without using their top three relievers.

  • The Dodger pen is pretty gassed.

  • Tomko has been pretty bad.

  • The back end veterans of our bullpen, Sele and Schoeneweis, are asserting themselves.

  • Our bat wakeup may be for real (or it may be an anomoly).

  • After LA, the Mets get a day off Monday, Pittsburgh and Washington at home, and then another Monday off. The Braves have a redeye flight to San Francisco after an ESPN Sunday Night Special, where they'll get no days off and start Monday in the middle of Barrymania. Then on to Arizona.
Oh, and way to go, Toronto.

The thread title pretty much sums up how I felt when it was time to get up this morning. I finally cashed it in last night as the Mets were getting ready to bat in the top of the 8th. I assumed they could hold the lead. I was glad to see that they indeed did. I don't believe I'll be staying up late with the Mets tonight.

I have to confess. I couldn't handle the late night either. I watched this morning on Gone In Sixty Minutes.

Crashed on the couch only to have Gary's back-to-back HRs wake me. That at least convinced me it was safe to turn out the lights. Son is an early riser too -- absolute murderous week.

I was there until the end last night. The only game I cashed out early was the Maddux game. Exhausted, couldn't handle it.

And tonight's start is a half-hour later.
Might have to record this one and check it out tomorrow morning.

I didn't finish any of the games in SD and last night left at 9 to 5.

To wake up in the morning haven fallen asleep before the end of a late west coast game is to wake up still in Metland.

Actually, I'm pretty wide awake today since I'm a night owl by nature. I still remember coming home from clubs when the sun was rising like it was yeterday. Luckily I'm working from home today so I did get to sleep in an extra half hour. I'm sure I'll make up for it by sleeping in until 2 in the afternoon this weekend.

The Mets Fast Forward show at 6:00 totally rocks if no one has tried it out.

A Boy Named Seo (formerly JG) is an LA guy.

So is Ambler.

And Hiro.

I was thinking of Ambler. Ambler sightings anyone?

I thought about Ambler yesterday and wondered how he is.

Ambler surfaces occasionally to stir up the pot from time to time - I believe he's now a principal out there.

I just posted Ambler's infamous suggestion to "pinch-hit for Ventura" from '01 in the MOFO archives.

OK that's funny, can be a bit confusing to read, did ambler suggest that Ventura be PH for and then Robin hit a two run shot?

he did shit like that all the time, but that one was just classic timing.

Cool things about this thread:

- typical ambler. He was a big fan of employing the win/win tactic of predicting the worst for your team so you could either brag afterward about how you were right and ahead of the curve in outlining their faults, or declare how happy he you were to be wrong.
Lots of fans use it but Ambler employed it to the Nth degree.

- keep in mind that that was opening day, meaning that he so distrusted Ventura he was arguing to preemptively PH for a starting player with only 161 games to go

- sounds like it was the first revelation that that Doc G character was saving threads for posterity. The software used in those days used to keep just 20 pages of threads before they'd fall off the back end and disappear forever.

Ventura hit two 2 run home runs that game!

I don't see 6 am unless I'm coming home at that hour. LOL!

Funny..I was just thinking of ambler yesterday as well.

Gone in Sixty Minutes is repeated at 9.

But I tape the 6 o'clock one so I can watch it around 730. At that time of the morning I don't have time for the whole game.

  • Smith still counted as third? His overall year is better than Heilman's.
