Beltran Pulls an Abdominal Muscle

Not starting today. Milledge to center.

We really are short these days on backups for outfield defense. Milledge has looked like ass a couple of times last year. Haven't seen much personally this year due mostly to the west coast trip.

Fuck.

Hopefully it's nothing major.

Ever wonder what the correlation is between age and time on the DL?
|

And now we have Marlon Anderson playing in left against a lefty, because we DFA'd Ambres on Easley's return instead of Anderson Hernandez. I'm really not sure I like that.

Any update on this? Out for the season? Day-to-day?

I don't think we had a choice -- the roster rules dictated that. Weren't we required to keep Anderson Hernandez up for a minimum number of days before sending him down again?

No, it's the other way around. If you send someone DOWN you then can't call him back up for (10?) days unless there's an injury up on the big club. The purpose of that rule is to prevent a team from sending all its LH batters down for a day or two while facing southpaws and then calling them back again when that club leaves town. Players can be sent down after just one game.

Coupla days most likely. But, as with most muscle pulls, yaneverknow.

As for Beltran, Cf, it's too early to get any real info ... tweak to pull ...

Knowing the way that Beltran and the Mets work with muscle strains...it will probably be day-to-day without starting for 15 days, but no 15-day DL stint to call up a replacement while he has 2 pinch hit appearances in that timeframe...

Beltran has never seemed like the quick healing type.Let's hope its not a true rib cage pull..I'm sure when he does come back he'll be making that Oh it hurts so much face...

Common sense would indicate a high correlation, but this statement is a total non-sequitor in a thread about an injury to Beltran who just turned 30, and is clearly in the prime of his career.

Maybe. If the average roster age is high, and a young guy goes on the DL, the koolaid drinkers can chant "Nah,-nah, see? He's young and he got hurt so shove your stats up your ass, ha ha!!" all day long, but that's not how large-sample stats work. They just measure the probability of someone on the roster getting hurt--usually it will be the elderly who get cut down but not always. The Mets are suffering right now from a lot of young guys being injured, but that doesn't mean AT ALL that they were wise to pack the roster with ancient bodies. What it means is that the gods have a sense of humor. You've begun applying common sense to baseball? How rad of you.

i wonder what the correlation is. perhaps you have some stats to share with us?

No, I don't. That's why I asked. Al I have is Vic's common sense (he isn't using it himself at the moment) and a vague sense that SOMEONE must have thoroughly researched such an obvious topic.

Me too -- I really hated every one of those 41 homers and 116 RBI last year.

You're welcome to jump ship any time. I didn't hear you bitch about him when he was producing all last year.

When we getting him back?

Hey jackass, remember in 2005 when Beltran and Cameron ran into each other at full speed? "Beltran was diagnosed with a concussion and a minimally non-displaced fracture of a facial bone." He was back in the lineup in 6 days. Remember that, moron? I didn't think so.

Neither does Carlos, for that matter.
