IGT 7/27/05 - Trying To Win One in Denver

ScarletKnight41
Jul 27 2005 09:31 PM

After VZ gives up a run in the bottom of the first, Marlon Anderson ties it up with one swing of the bat in the top of the second.

Let's beat this AAAA level team, ok?

ScarletKnight41

Minty doubles. And he's standing on second, surrounded by flying insect thingies. Ick!

Jul 27 2005 09:34 PM

And I was just grumbling that Valent would be a much better person to sub in right than Anderson. I should stick to my day job.

Good news form Ted on the TV, the Astros put Brandon Backe on the DL today,a rookie named Astacio will take the start tomorrow night.

Zambrano with a bunt single...hell yeah.

Jul 27 2005 10:12 PM

Reyes singles. Let's keep this going if at all possible.

ScarletKnight41
Jul 27 2005 10:19 PM

When Mr. Wright came up with the bases loaded, MK said, "triple play situation."

Thankfully, Wright had other ideas and came up with a 2-RBI double <g>

Elster88
Jul 27 2005 10:20 PM

Cairo singles, Beltran doubles, Floyd intentionally walked, Wright doubles. Still no outs in the fifth.

7-1

I'm getting absolutely no joy out of this shellacking, because of the last two games. I'm just a grouch.

metirish
Jul 27 2005 10:22 PM

Mets break it open if that's possible at Coors, 7 - 1 Mets, I love the shot Bill Webb gives into the Rockies bullpen, you see some guy behind a tree/plant taking his warm up pitches....

Johnny Dickshot
Jul 27 2005 10:22 PM

Still none out. This is a park where no lead is safe, I want Floyd and Wright to score before the inning is over.

]Victor Zambrano didn't give up that run. Carlos Beltran did.

I missed the run-scoring hit. Are you referring though to the single that dropped in front of him? He plays very deep and can't afford that poor jump he gets.

Manderson going for 3 HRs.

TheOldMole

I am. This is very pleasant.

A no-out, 4-run rally - what do you know?

What do you think of that?

Elster88
Jul 27 2005 10:25 PM

Avoid the radio tomorrow unless you want to hear screaming knuckleheads demanding that Castro get the starting catcher job.

MiniKnight I think it's just great, and it's not over yet...who's you fave player on the team?

MiniKnight
Jul 27 2005 10:31 PM

The answer - Mike Piazza.

And what an inning - 6 runs in 10 at bats for the Mets!

Goodnight everybody.

I like it. Maybe Zambrano will actually get a win.

ScarletKnight41

Minty is ejected for arguing a third strike call. Great........

metirish
Jul 27 2005 10:33 PM

Good answer, he's my all time fave...Doug Mink got booted from the game , Woodie takes over in RF, Anderson to first base, Mink was booted for yapping at the home plate ump.

smg58
Jul 27 2005 10:36 PM

Minky's not helping himself any.

smg58
Jul 27 2005 10:37 PM

No need to make this interesting, Victor.

Johnny Dickshot
Jul 27 2005 10:40 PM

He's throwing easy and throwing it over the plate. That's pretty much what you expect with an 8-run lead. Beltran again arrived for the shallow single in slow motion, though I didn;t think he had a realistic chance. Prolly better to keep it in front if you can.

ScarletKnight41
Jul 27 2005 10:44 PM

I am learning to totally hate the Matt Loughlin in-game segments. There's a game on, dammit - let's focus on that!

Frayed Knot
Jul 27 2005 10:49 PM

It was the none-on/two-out single in the 1st that started that inning that Beltran could have (and Cameron would have) gotten to, He had no chance on the RBI single that eventually brought that run in.

]Avoid the radio tomorrow unless you want to hear screaming knuckleheads demanding that Castro get the starting catcher job.

You won't be able to hear them over the calls for Marlon Anderson to be permenantly installed in RF.

My internet was down but my TV wasn't:

Ted Robinson: "Camilo Pascual was one of the last cuban players ton come over before Castro came to power."

FX: "You know, Castro wanted to be a major league pitcher..."

Really Fran? Wow I never heard that story before...

Oh wait yes I have - about a thousand frikkin' times!

Moron. I hat him so damn much.

Elster88
Jul 27 2005 11:01 PM

Floyd doubles deep into center, one hops the wall.

Wright hit a chopper to the mound and....

Floyd was caught off second, and stood still as the pitcher ran at him. Finally, as the pitcher almost reached him, he deked him to second and ran to third, making the rundown last long enough so Wright could get to second. Nice job by both of them so there was no damage except for replacing the runner with slower legs (and the out of course).

Actually, how fast is Wright?

There is NO WAY the Dolans are going to deprive me of the Mets.

If I have to go satellite I'll do it. I will.

You hear me Dolans?! Do you?! I'll do it you bastards!

ScarletKnight41
Jul 27 2005 11:18 PM

With a 9-2 lead in the 8th, it's Danny Graves time.

cooby
Jul 27 2005 11:18 PM

I thought they dumped him.

Oh no, that was just me

ScarletKnight41
Jul 27 2005 11:20 PM

You dumped him? No wonder he's been pitching like shit - he's heartbroken!

cooby
Jul 27 2005 11:22 PM

He was breaking my heart.

I have three dang players (not counting Zambrano) playing for me tonight, now that Minky is gone. Or is Cliff gone too? They were speculating when I came back here

metirish
Jul 27 2005 11:24 PM

First out, if Graves can't be a mop-up man then what, c'mon Danny, be all you can be.

ScarletKnight41
Jul 27 2005 11:25 PM

A double play preserves the 9-2 lead.

On to the 9th!

ScarletKnight41
Jul 27 2005 11:36 PM

We can trade two run homers for outs here with a 9-2 lead.

Knowing that, Graves lets the first two batters of the 9th get on base.

Oy!

Edgy DC
Jul 27 2005 11:36 PM

Yeah, I was talking about Beltran letting the initial hit drop in front of him. He quit a few strides too early, and it had nothing left to skip by him with if he went all out. Good to hear Knot agree that Cammie would have had it.

]Avoid the radio tomorrow unless you want to hear screaming knuckleheads demanding that Castro get the starting catcher job.

Oh, I will.

ScarletKnight41
Jul 27 2005 11:37 PM

Juan "Shades" Padilla is getting loose in the bullpen.

ScarletKnight41
Jul 27 2005 11:38 PM

One out on a strikeout. So we can trade three run homers for outs now.

Jul 27 2005 11:39 PM

It's all about the mathematics.

ScarletKnight41
Jul 27 2005 11:42 PM

A walk loads the bases.

ScarletKnight41
Jul 27 2005 11:43 PM

A single makes it 9-3. Bases still loaded.

Before you know it we'll have a save situation.

TheOldMole
Jul 27 2005 11:43 PM

Danny os not much of an asset to the Mets. Could they still blow this?

Edgy DC
Jul 27 2005 11:44 PM

Nope. Line single makes it 9-3.

TheOldMole
Jul 27 2005 11:44 PM

No, they couldn't.

ScarletKnight41
Jul 27 2005 11:44 PM

Marlon Anderson catches the popup to end the game.

Whew!

Edgy DC
Jul 27 2005 11:49 PM

It's over, and Mets walk away with the all-important pythagorean series victory, 1.92 games to 1.08.

Edgy DC
Jul 28 2005 09:22 AM

A toast to Wille Randolph, who, buy luck or wisdom, chose the right day to get Anderson and Castro in there.

seawolf17
Jul 28 2005 10:14 AM

Two thoughts. I said to my wife this weekend that if they lost two out of three in Colorado, that would be okay... as long as they won three of four in Houston. This is the MUCH bigger series coming up, against a team that (a) we're potentially battling for the wild card, and (b) is hot right now.

Gotta get three in Houston.

Also... honestly, I don't know if I'd be too upset with Castro catching 110-120 games next year. He's young, he can play defense, he can hit... there are certainly a lot worse options out there. Keep in mind, he was the Marlins #1 catcher going into the spring not too long ago (before his off-field issues).

Edgy DC
Jul 28 2005 10:33 AM

Missing Clemens in Houston looks to help. How does your wife feel about that?

metirish
Jul 28 2005 10:41 AM

Missing Backe helps a lot too.
