In defiance of having been traded this afternoon, as reported by Metsblog.com, Metstalk.com, Metsbullshit.com, Metfucktard.com and other bastions of web journalism, Mike Cameron is starting in Right field tonight.

Doug Meinkiewicz, however, has his ass nailed to the bench.

Reyes
Cameron
Beltran
Floyd
Wright
Piazza
Anderson
Cairo
Pedro

Taveras
Biggio
Berkman
Ensberg
Lamb
Palmiero
Everett
Ausmus
Astacio, not that one.

Top 1: Reyes singles, Cammy walks, Beltran reaches on an error, Floyd sacflies the runners up a base, Wright grounds to the wrong side of the infield and Cammy is out at home, Piazza whiffs.

1 run after a bases loaded, no out dealie.

Sigh, at least they got something. First thing i though of was those 2 games vs. Florida. Back to back games. Bases loaded in the 1st. No runs in either.

Cameron picked off.

Beltran looks miserable out there. I don't think he likes the booing much.

Get hot, or get used to it, Carlos. It's not gonna get any better at Shea . . .

AAAAAAAAA! Scary!

Elster88
Jul 28 2005 09:52 PM

Jimmy Qualls's son, Chad, starting the seventh.
And Cairo, the first batter, hits one about one foot over the fence. Nice. 2-1. Can I get a kaboom?

Edgy DC
Jul 28 2005 09:53 PM

A lot of guys looking tonight.

Stroke like an Egyptian!

(OK, so it was the cheapest HR in history)

KC
Jul 28 2005 10:01 PM

Beltran 0-4, if Cairo's HR sticks Carlos owes him dinner.

How long before the NY papers collapse and kill Carlos if this continues? Ya
know it's just a slow off-day article or five in the making soon.

Walk.

Stolen base, Piazza made a strong through. Runner on 2nd, no out. I'm nervous.

Fly out to straight center.

Hard single to right. Runner holds at third.

Bunt, putout at first. Runner scores. 2-2. Runner at 2nd, two out.

Flyout to left.

I want Pedro to get a W. Floyd, Wright, Piazza coming up.

Johnny Dickshot
Jul 28 2005 10:09 PM

The Astros are wusses. Squeeze this, Phil Garner.

Edgy DC
Jul 28 2005 10:18 PM

Fifteen consecutive games hitting safely for Wright.

Piazza at 2-0.

Mike walks.

Johnny Dickshot

Big moment here. 2-2, 8th inning, 1 out, 2 on for Anderson...

Looking again.

Johnny Dickshot
Jul 28 2005 10:30 PM

He dropped it? Oh hell.

Elster88
Jul 28 2005 10:30 PM

Cameron caught the ball with two hands. As he went to pull it out of his glove it dropped, and the hitter is ruled safe. WTF.

Frayed Knot
Jul 28 2005 10:31 PM

How is that not a freakin' catch????

TheOldMole
Jul 28 2005 10:31 PM

Mets definitely jobbed on the Cameron call. What's wrong with Willie?

Edgy DC
Jul 28 2005 10:31 PM

Oh, feck.

Johnny Dickshot
Jul 28 2005 10:31 PM

When the hell is WWSB going to stand up for his team?

Elster88
Jul 28 2005 10:31 PM

Either the throws are just slow, or they are stealing off Pedro, because that was another good throw. Stolen base.

Beenso
Jul 28 2005 10:32 PM

can someone please tell me why willie is standing in that fucking dugout after that terrible call...he should have gotten himself thrown out of the game

unbelievable

Edgy DC
Jul 28 2005 10:35 PM

<GrumpyOldMan>How long are they going to let slobs go about with pine tar all over their scummy helmets?</GrumpyOldMan>

Johnny Dickshot
Jul 28 2005 10:35 PM

Looks like a makeup call to me? He was safer than Cameron erred, afaict.

Beenso
Jul 28 2005 10:35 PM

thats what a manager should do...get off his ass and argue a call like that....not stand there like a moron

Edgy DC
Jul 28 2005 10:36 PM

Stop it. Willie has superpowers and used them to get himself a payback call.

Oh, Marlon, stretching practice --- 9:30.

KC
Jul 28 2005 10:37 PM

First base ump hasn't shined.

I don't like pine tarred batting helmets.

Johnny Dickshot
Jul 28 2005 10:37 PM

Pedro is the best.

Elster88
Jul 28 2005 10:37 PM

Pedro blew him away. Can we get the man a win? I doubt it with the pitcher coming in.

Beenso
Jul 28 2005 10:37 PM

whats pedros pitchcount up to?

Edgy DC
Jul 28 2005 10:38 PM

Looks like an eight-whiff night for Pedro.

Frayed Knot
Jul 28 2005 10:41 PM

Berkman looked out by a hair to me - could have gone either way.

On the Cameron play; I think there's some goofy and rarely called rule where the OFer has to complete a clean transfer in order for it to be called a catch (someone needs to consult a rule book here). It's a stupid rule (and that's why it's almost never called) and how often have you seen a guy just run in with the ball in his glove ... and it's not like the ump waits to make a call there.

Fortunately we got out of it but I suspect the rule is why Willie wasn't out arguing - although I would have liked to see it anyway.

Rotblatt

Yank one, Jose.

Beenso
Jul 28 2005 10:45 PM

i like willie. it just seems like whenever there is any sort of questionable call he either sits there and stares or he strolls out and asks the umpire if he had a nice holiday season.

hes gotta start showing some emotion......maybe just once in awhile.

Edgy DC
Jul 28 2005 10:47 PM

Don't you go to your closer in this situation?

KC
Jul 28 2005 10:50 PM

It's ovah, 3-2 ... tossin' and turnin' all night.

Johnny Dickshot
Jul 28 2005 10:50 PM

All deadline deals are off.

Beenso
Jul 28 2005 10:50 PM

brad ausmus.

ties the game, wins the game....how embarassing.

Johnny Dickshot
Jul 28 2005 10:51 PM

Hernandez, soon to be traded to Boston, has been better than Looper this year, tough to dig in on that.

Frayed Knot
Jul 28 2005 10:53 PM

These type of games rarely turn out well for the road team.

I just hope they don't use this game as a panic excuse to "do something".

Rotblatt
Jul 28 2005 11:00 PM

I blame Beltran for this loss. It's unreasonable and petty, but he looked terrible at the plate tonight.

This was a brutal fucking loss. I'm getting a sinking feeling of dejavu here. We're technically in it but we've now lost 3 of 4, 2 against the worst team in baseball and one--against a main competitor for the WC slot--featuring our bonafide ace against a AAA scrub.

Meanwhile, rumors of Win-Now! trades which would decimate our farm system are flying.

They won't pan out, Omar. Tweak the roster, but just because we CAN make a deal doesn't mean we should.

ARGH!! What a frustrating day for Mets baseball.

So bloody true, tough loss, you have to win when Pedro pitches that good, Beltran is lost right now, time to sit him for a few games?

Rotblatt
Jul 28 2005 11:14 PM

Hell, yes, let's give him a few days off. Send down Williams, call up Valent or Diaz, and give Beltran a day or three off in the next week to see if he can get him right.

We NEED him to be the Beltran of the last three years if we're going to break out of mediocrity this year. Willie should be doing everything possible to get him comfortable.

And I should also add, it needs to happen soon. If the Mets don't make any moves and lose this series to Houston, Mets fans are going to boo the shit out of Beltran when he gets back to Shea on Tuesday, and I seriously doubt that's going to help him come around.

Edgy DC
Jul 29 2005 08:24 AM

How about dropping Cammie back to sixth and bumping Beltran and everybody else up one? We had him second in Washington and it helped him... oh, I don't know.

I'm thinking this, too. Last night was a rough night for me.

Four strikeouts his last game. A careless error in this game. Getting picked off first after nearly getting picked off just moments before. #@$%@ #!)#(!) Cameron.

Sorry. Had to get that off my chest.
