It's 4 -- I'm here and postin'. Hope that means extra consideration.

AFTER THE YOUNG BLOOD

Well he dreamed he’s on the Mets
In home whites playing,
Leading by something around thirteen.
There were pitchers pitching and
Hitters hitting
And Bob Murphy set the scene.
There was one player that they
Loved the best
They were chanting on their knees:
Look at Joel Youngblood scoring runs in the 1970’s.
Look at Joel Youngblood scoring runs in the 1970’s.

The Mets were lying in the NL basement
With the Expos on the rise.
They were hoping for replacements
When a trade burst through the wires.
After the game played in Wrigley Field
Then he felt like saying bye
He was taking a plane to the Philly Vet
He was hoping they’d let him try
Taking a plane to the Philly Vet
He was hoping they’d let him try.

Well it seemed he got to Philly in the third
and no one had yet scored a run.
There was Carlton pitching
And now Youngblood playing
‘Round his brand new Expo chums.
Like in his dream, like in his dream
The chanting had begun.
They were saying Joel Youngblood’s
Done something that no one’s ever done.
Joel Youngblood’s
Done something like no one...

Neil Young sings that so high that it hurts my vocal chords just to read it silently.

Way to go.

OCTAVIO DOTEL

Well, since Steve Phillips dealt me,
(And he can go straight to hell),
There’s been no Series chances for
Octavio Dotel

And now I’m a closer, Stevie.
And now I’m a closer.
And now I’m a closer, can’t you die?

That champion’s flag means nothing,
They had me locked up for years,
They’d still be paying me peanuts now,
And bonusing me in beers.

And now I’m a closer, Stevie.
And now I’m a closer.
And now I’m a closer, can’t you die?

Though the Dolphin got all the credit
For making the New York Mets jell,
They woulda got just-as-good pitching from
Octavio Dotel

And now I’m a closer, Stevie.
And now I’m a closer.
And now I’m a closer, can’t you die?

So if you want to discuss it,
Steve, just call me on your cell,
And hear unprintable language from
Octavio Dotel.

[Thank yuh, thank yuh vurrah much]

What are the tunes in this thread?

Norrin Radd
(11/4/03 6:18 pm)
um, mom... you're kidding right?

sal, that was elegant. I don't agree with you, but it was well put.

Salamander Q
(11/4/03 6:21 pm)
I don't agree with me either. I was channeling Metscc there, more than expressing my own feelings.

CookieMom
(11/4/03 6:26 pm)
With the cacophony around here, I can't generate any tune without a hint.

Salamander Q
(11/4/03 6:30 pm)
Cal did Neil Young's AFTER THE GOLD RUSH (and very nicely too), and mine was Elvis's HEARTBREAK HOTEL.

Norrin Radd
(11/4/03 6:32 pm)
you shoulda made her guess.

CookieMom
(11/4/03 5:32 pm)
Gracias.

I did catch on that you were using Elvis - I just couldn't connect with the tune.

And Norrin -

Well, I made her guess which Elvis.

CookieMom
(11/4/03 5:34 pm)
Point well taken Edge. I couldn't generate a Neil Young tune if you paid me.

On Edit - so much for Edgy's point....

You know, it's been a slow posting day, but that's like the third Metssc reference of the day.

Willets Point
(11/4/03 6:35 pm)
I was working on a song called "Goodbye Young Dotel" to the tune of "Candle in the Wind" which pretty much was going to express the sentiments of the Mets fans who thought we traded Dotel for "nothing." I think Sal did a better job with the idea than I would have. I might even vote for him.

The Big Train
(11/4/03 6:44 pm)
I look forward to the extras thread.

Willets Point
(11/4/03 7:46 pm)
Well, I didn't actually write it, I was "working on it" meaning I had an idea and never got my lazy ass around to typing it up and working out the rhymes. That's another reason I had to go with Valera.

Wide BeeGee

Well ... another two great entries.

Salamander Q

Both of these tunes (and both originals, too) AND three of the posts on the preceding page quite naturally begin with the starter, "Well..."

Well, I'm just not sure what that observation means.

Willets Point

Cal's rallying.

cooby

Well, I'm just not sure what that observation means

It means it's a very deep subject

Norrin Radd

whichever one of you wins, i'm hoping for a "billy short" parody sometime soon.

Willets Point
(11/6/03 1:01 pm)
Sal, have you voted for you yet or are you waiting to create some last minute drama?

Salamander Q
(11/6/03 1:15 pm)
No drama in store. I've shot my only bullet.

The Big Train
(11/6/03 6:13 pm)
And Sal advances, 13-11.
