Deja Vu

I bet tomorrow's game will be a flashback for some here.

Noontime start against the Brewers in early August, 100 degree heat.

Anyone up for a trip to the Picnic Area? I remember driving through central Jersey wishing I was at Shea that day.

99 in the shade.

I remember sitting at Shea wishing I were driving through central Jersey. Or maybe Beruit.

j/k, I had a blast that day and was actually just thinking about the coincidences too.
Although it was M---er-F---in hot!! 103 in the shade and there weren't no shade, not much of a breeze either. Hottest day in NYC in about 5 years and hasn't been that hot in the last 4 since. It'll probably be a good 6-10 degrees "cooler" tomorrow.

McQ put that game away w/a HR.

I was at that game, field level, short right field. HOT! It was so hot (how hot was it?) that the Mets were actually handing out cups of water FOR FREE. Packaged hydro remained $3.75 or whatever the going rate was in 2001.

It was the hottest I ever was at a Mets game with the possible exception of sitting in the same seats two years earlier for a day game (Pirates, 7/28/99). On both occasions, I brought along my West Coast friend who had traveled back east for his first game in quite a while. And on both occasions, he plead uncle and we had to leave for his air conditioned rental car to hear the end on the way back to L.I.

Apparently too much time away from Shea makes a man soft.

You got credit for the win, though, right?

Seriously, here's hoping it's not so hot today.

I was going to mention that, but I've already made myself clear: I was there, I write down a W. But to ease your mind, the Mets had taken the lead of an official game for good before we bailed.

My brother slept through the go-ahead run at the 2001 broiler, and I marked it ND on his scorecard.

Scaring Shinjo and Ambler's hot dog have to be the highlights of the day...

Feh!
It only reached a mere 97 yesterday. Plus there was a breeze and even a brief shower ... not even a comparison.
Those in attendance yesterday got off with practically a day at the beach.

Of course that it not only turned out to be a miserable loss but also the longest 9-inning game in Shea history no doubt made things a bit tougher to take.

Didn't somebody go into the visitors pen and steal the rosin bag that day? All I remember is wondering how on earth Mets Magic could possibly stand that heat wearing all black. Angel had to hear Kase getting on him from his spot in left too.

Putting faces to so many names was the highlight of that day. I met lots of people in person for the first time that day.

Crazy Mark. Black shoes, black hat, and long black sleeves.

He pulled back a homer that day, didn't he?
