IGT 8/3/07 Old School Met-Cub Day Game

Edgy DC

  4. Delgado 1b

  5. Anderson cf

  6. Castro c

  7. Green rf

  8. Kendall, c

  9. Zambrano, p

Benjamin Grimm

I don't care if Newhan's a left-handed hitter. I'd rather see Milledge starting and batting second.

Nice to see Gotay getting a start though.

Edgy DC
Aug 03 2007 12:19 PM

Milledge probably gets the next two games.

Benjamin Grimm
Aug 03 2007 12:27 PM

It's so strange to see the Mets at Wrigley. I remember so many games that they played there in the past, and now they're in Chicago so rarely.

One perk of playing in either of the two Central Divisions: You get to go to Chicago three times a year.

Edgy DC
Aug 03 2007 12:27 PM

Really, ask yourself how long before the LoDuca freezout leads to some shouting.

cleonjones11
Aug 03 2007 12:32 PM

Hey a makeshift lineup...Shocking! Whenever Beltran reappears can Milledge be the fulltime LF and just waive Alou.

Castro and Gotay are hitting they should be in

Benjamin Grimm
Aug 03 2007 12:32 PM

If Paulie still isn't in the lineup by Sunday night, when Glavine takes his next crack at 300, I think he'll snap.

Benjamin Grimm
Aug 03 2007 12:34 PM

Newhan, Anderson, Green. Might be the worst defensive outfield the Mets have put out there this year.

It wasn't that long ago that they were talking about what a great outfield they had in Chavez, Beltran, Gomez.

That alignment didn't last all that long, did it?

cleonjones11
Aug 03 2007 12:37 PM

and you wont see it again this year..Maybe next..

Edgy DC

No.

cleonjones11
Aug 03 2007 12:40 PM

keep Alou as a fourth outfielder when he's not hurt?

No doubt!

Cleon, they're not about to waive Moises Alou, period.

I think that's exactly what they're holding him out for, letting him rest up and get as healthy as possible for that specific game.

]Newhan, Anderson, Green. Might be the worst defensive outfield the Mets have put out there this year.

And it might be better than Soriano, Jones & Floyd
(probably not, but it's close)

Edgy DC
Aug 03 2007 01:10 PM

We finally have a hit, with a Jones double, but Hernandez fans Kendall and Zambrano.

I'm kind of thinking that Zambrano should be batting ahead of Kendall.

Edgy DC
Aug 03 2007 01:12 PM

None out in the fourth, and Zambrano has walked four. Let's move some of these guys around.

Benjamin Grimm
Aug 03 2007 01:14 PM

Green's up with two out and Delgado on third.

Benjamin Grimm
Aug 03 2007 01:16 PM

Green walks, now it's Gotay's turn.

The Cubs have a big plastic pail of "Big League Chew" in their dugout.

Edgy DC
Aug 03 2007 01:18 PM

And Gotay goes down.

Zambrano has a no-hitter through four, but has thrown 68 pitches.

cleonjones11 wrote:

why, exactly, do you prefer Shawn Green's presense in the lineup to Moises Alou's? If your answer doesn't involve statistics or something other than "i hate alou, alou sucks" please don't bother answering.

Neifi Perez suspended for banned substances, wow.

Benjamin Grimm
Aug 03 2007 01:36 PM

After a two-out walk to Newhan in the fifth, Wright breaks up the no-hitter with a hard single to left.

Delgado batting.

DETROIT (AP) - Tigers infielder Neifi Perez was suspended for 80 games Friday after testing positive for a third time for a banned stimulant.

Perez was suspended for 25 games on July 6 when he tested positive for a second time. Under baseball's labor contract, a player who tests positive for the first time is sent for counseling.

Perez has been the only player suspended by baseball for stimulants since baseball banned them before the 2006 season.

[u:298da324d7]7th[/u:298da324d7] walk of the game makes the sacks drunk for Marlon w/2 outs ...

Benjamin Grimm
Aug 03 2007 01:39 PM

Delgado walks. That's the seventh walk for Zambrano in 4.2 innings.

A big hit by Marlon would be nice here.

Nymr83
Aug 03 2007 01:39 PM

7 walks for the Mets and nobody in yet...

I'd've batted Marlon second and Greenie fifth, meself.

Edgy DC
Aug 03 2007 01:41 PM

And he doesn't see a single pitch over the plate (per Gameday), but chases and fans on four pitches.

Benjamin Grimm
Aug 03 2007 01:41 PM

Anderson is taking on 0-1 and 1-1, then swings and misses at a 1-2 pitch.

Zambrano very fired up. Jumping, twirling, pumping his fist, and pointing to the sky.

Edgy DC

Turn to the sky!

mi: >>>Willie must make it clear that from now on Castro is the number one catcher<<<

Ridin' a hot hand is the easy part, declaring your intentions is a sure fire way
for a leader to get burned in the boo boo.

That's one thing I've always found amusing about some Mets fans needing for
things to be spelled out to them or to the media or to the team. I'd be a check-
the-lineup-card-when-you-get-off-the-bus-and-if-you-don't-like-not-being-on-
it-hit-the-cage-and-try-and-get-my-attention kinda manager.

Screw making anything clear.

Edgy DC

I was just about to add that, although having Marlon on the team has been nice and all, I'd really rather see Alou up in those spots.
But he comes through w/men on in his 3rd try today.

David Newhan: Rally Starter

bmfc1
Aug 03 2007 02:19 PM

Benjamin Grimm

Yup, Coleman is the only Met to walk five times in a game. (08/10/92)

Four opponents have done it:

09/16/72 Elrod Hendricks Cubs
09/07/73 Tim Foli Expos
04/22/83 Dale Murphy Braves
04/08/03 Ivan Rodriguez Marlins

Not happy at all, unless he said that during this game because during Glavine's last start he lamented the fact that if he didn't get the win then his next start was on ESPN and he wouldn't get to call it.

Other teams use reserves in place of injured players and on day games also. Subs happen.

Chalk up Zambrano's 7 BBs to nervousness as he was auditioning for a possible suitor for '08 and beyond.

Was in the ball park today, in the Standing Room Only seats. Fun time and had a fun time at a Clark Ave. bar afterwards.

A LOT of Met representation this afternoon at Wrigley, I was quite impressed, a few "Jose, Jose, Jose" chants broke out and there was one rather feisty Met fan woman who was having a good give-and-take with Cubbie Fans in the area I was in

Can't wait for tomorrow
