Funky lineup.
Benjamin Grimm Aug 03 2007 12:16 PM |
I don't care if Newhan's a left-handed hitter. I'd rather see Milledge starting and batting second.
Edgy DC Aug 03 2007 12:19 PM |
Milledge probably gets the next two games.
Benjamin Grimm Aug 03 2007 12:27 PM |
It's so strange to see the Mets at Wrigley. I remember so many games that they played there in the past, and now they're in Chicago so rarely.
Edgy DC Aug 03 2007 12:27 PM |
Really, ask yourself how long before the LoDuca freezout leads to some shouting.
cleonjones11 Aug 03 2007 12:32 PM |
Hey a makeshift lineup...Shocking! Whenever Beltran reappears can Milledge be the fulltime LF and just waive Alou.
Benjamin Grimm Aug 03 2007 12:32 PM |
If Paulie still isn't in the lineup by Sunday night, when Glavine takes his next crack at 300, I think he'll snap.
Benjamin Grimm Aug 03 2007 12:34 PM |
Newhan, Anderson, Green. Might be the worst defensive outfield the Mets have put out there this year.
cleonjones11 Aug 03 2007 12:37 PM |
and you wont see it again this year..Maybe next..
Edgy DC Aug 03 2007 12:37 PM |
No.
cleonjones11 Aug 03 2007 12:40 PM |
keep Alou as a fourth outfielder when he's not hurt?
cleonjones11 Aug 03 2007 12:41 PM |
No doubt!
Edgy DC Aug 03 2007 12:57 PM |
Cleon, they're not about to waive Moises Alou, period.
Gwreck Aug 03 2007 12:57 PM |
I think that's exactly what they're holding him out for, letting him rest up and get as healthy as possible for that specific game.
Frayed Knot Aug 03 2007 01:07 PM |
And it might be better than Soriano, Jones & Floyd (probably not, but it's close)
Edgy DC Aug 03 2007 01:10 PM |
We finally have a hit, with a Jones double, but Hernandez fans Kendall and Zambrano.
Edgy DC Aug 03 2007 01:12 PM |
None out in the fourth, and Zambrano has walked four. Let's move some of these guys around.
Benjamin Grimm Aug 03 2007 01:14 PM |
Green's up with two out and Delgado on third.
Benjamin Grimm Aug 03 2007 01:16 PM |
Green walks, now it's Gotay's turn.
Edgy DC Aug 03 2007 01:18 PM |
And Gotay goes down.
Nymr83 Aug 03 2007 01:30 PM |
why, exactly, do you prefer Shawn Green's presense in the lineup to Moises Alou's? If your answer doesn't involve statistics or something other than "i hate alou, alou sucks" please don't bother answering.
Nymr83 Aug 03 2007 01:31 PM |
Neifi Perez suspended for banned substances, wow.
Benjamin Grimm Aug 03 2007 01:36 PM |
After a two-out walk to Newhan in the fifth, Wright breaks up the no-hitter with a hard single to left.
metirish Aug 03 2007 01:36 PM |
DETROIT (AP) - Tigers infielder Neifi Perez was suspended for 80 games Friday after testing positive for a third time for a banned stimulant. Perez was suspended for 25 games on July 6 when he tested positive for a second time. Under baseball's labor contract, a player who tests positive for the first time is sent for counseling. Perez has been the only player suspended by baseball for stimulants since baseball banned them before the 2006 season.

[u:298da324d7]7th[/u:298da324d7] walk of the game makes the sacks drunk for Marlon w/2 outs ...
Benjamin Grimm Aug 03 2007 01:39 PM |
Delgado walks. That's the seventh walk for Zambrano in 4.2 innings.
Nymr83 Aug 03 2007 01:39 PM |
7 walks for the Mets and nobody in yet...
Edgy DC Aug 03 2007 01:39 PM Edited 1 time(s), most recently on Aug 03 2007 02:03 PM |
And they're loaded for Marlon.
metirish Aug 03 2007 01:41 PM |
Is that seven walks ?
Edgy DC Aug 03 2007 01:41 PM |
And he doesn't see a single pitch over the plate (per Gameday), but chases and fans on four pitches.
Benjamin Grimm Aug 03 2007 01:41 PM |
Anderson is taking on 0-1 and 1-1, then swings and misses at a 1-2 pitch.
Edgy DC Aug 03 2007 01:44 PM |
And love is the light in your face
TransMonk Aug 03 2007 01:46 PM |
7 walks and a hit = 8 LOB through 5 innings.
Nymr83 Aug 03 2007 01:50 PM |
CASTRO AGAIN!
bmfc1 Aug 03 2007 01:50 PM |
KA-KA-KA...
Benjamin Grimm Aug 03 2007 01:50 PM |
Castro homers.

Zambrano lifted after a trainer and manager visit. I guess he is approaching
metirish Aug 03 2007 01:55 PM |
Willie must make it clear that from now on Castro is the number one catcher.
Frayed Knot Aug 03 2007 01:56 PM |
I've never heard of this reliever - Carlos Marmol - but he's got some good numbers after putting up some pretty lousy ones in his 1st year last season.

Centerfield Aug 03 2007 02:05 PM |
That was a short-lived lead.
Edgy DC Aug 03 2007 02:06 PM |
Word to the man whose hand is shaking Mr. Met's.
Nymr83 Aug 03 2007 02:10 PM |
he's a pretty well-regarded prospect, they expect him to become the closer
Gwreck Aug 03 2007 02:13 PM |
Marmol was a starter last year. I saw him get shelled by the Tigers at Wrigley. Guess he's better off in the 'pen.
Centerfield Aug 03 2007 02:15 PM |
Get angry Marlon.
Farmer Ted Aug 03 2007 02:17 PM Edited 1 time(s), most recently on Aug 03 2007 02:18 PM |
He got angry. Delgado with 4 walks on the day.
Frayed Knot Aug 03 2007 02:18 PM |
I was just about to add that, although having Marlon on the team has been nice and all, I'd really rather see Alou up in those spots.
bmfc1 Aug 03 2007 02:19 PM |
FYI: Carlos D. is one walk away from the Mets one-game record. The Media Guide has Vince Coleman with the record of 5 but it was a 16 inning game ('92).
cleonjones11 Aug 03 2007 02:20 PM |
Yes..Newhan...the other white meat and Marlon get it done..Sorry Castro..LoDuca's probably saying I could have gotten a hit..
Benjamin Grimm Aug 03 2007 02:24 PM |
Yup, Coleman is the only Met to walk five times in a game. (08/10/92)
cleonjones11 Aug 03 2007 02:25 PM |
Get El Duque outta there..hurry!!!
cleonjones11 Aug 03 2007 02:27 PM |

cleonjones11 Aug 03 2007 02:27 PM |
YESSS!
Edgy DC Aug 03 2007 02:29 PM |
Or strike him out. That's good, too.
Frayed Knot Aug 03 2007 02:32 PM |
Jeeeez, Jason Kendall?
cleonjones11 Aug 03 2007 02:33 PM |

Easley over Castillo as the pinch-hitter against a rightie.
Centerfield Aug 03 2007 02:50 PM |
I'd walk Reyes here and pitch to Newhan.

Nymr83 Aug 03 2007 02:52 PM |
pretty obvious move. i have no idea why it isnt Gotay 2nd newhan 8th....then again theres no reason for newhan to be starting over milledge in the first place.
Kid Carsey Aug 03 2007 02:59 PM |
Newhan with a nice grap in LF. Nice grab, but kinda making up for a bad jump.
Nymr83 Aug 03 2007 03:10 PM |
3-2 Mets on a Delgado double! (goes to 3rd on a throw home)
Kid Carsey Aug 03 2007 03:11 PM |
Hotdiggity, Wright walks (thanks, blue) and Delgado doubles him in bing
bmfc1 Aug 03 2007 03:11 PM |
Cohen's extra happy--the sooner the game ends, the sooner he begins a rare in-season weekend off.
Centerfield Aug 03 2007 03:11 PM |
Shoulda walked him a 5th time.
Kid Carsey Aug 03 2007 03:12 PM |
Marlon fails to get the run home from third with an ugly AB.
bmfc1 Aug 03 2007 03:13 PM |
Milledge should go in for D in the 9th, but where? He's an upgrade at any position.
Centerfield Aug 03 2007 03:14 PM |
Come on Green. Pick them up.
Kid Carsey Aug 03 2007 03:14 PM |
Castro looks just as ugly resulting in a K for out number two.

I tuned in for the last out of a win. Nice.
DocTee Aug 03 2007 03:30 PM |
Great win. I had this one pencilled in as a loss after seeing the lineups. On the road, against a first-place team that has thier ace (bona fide) on the hill and we run out Newhan, Marlon, Gotay and Castro. This is a steal.
Nymr83 Aug 03 2007 03:30 PM |
another nice win, especially with this crap lineup
Elster88 Aug 03 2007 03:56 PM Re: IGT 8/3/07 Old School Met-Cub Day Game |

Color me pleased when we win with this lineup in a game started by C. Zambrano.
metirish Aug 03 2007 04:44 PM |
Not happy at all, unless he said that during this game because during Glavine's last start he lamented the fact that if he didn't get the win then his next start was on ESPN and he wouldn't get to call it.
Edgy DC Aug 03 2007 04:45 PM |
I'd hardly call it crap.
Benjamin Grimm Aug 03 2007 04:51 PM |
He could always muscle his way into the WFAN booth. That would give Dog Russo something to rail against.
Farmer Ted Aug 03 2007 05:19 PM |
Chalk up Zambrano's 7 BBs to nervousness as he was auditioning for a possible suitor for '08 and beyond.
metirish Aug 03 2007 05:23 PM |
Funny because I was thinking the same exact thing, how fucking stupid was that rant by Russo.
SteveJRogers Aug 03 2007 09:09 PM |
Was in the ball park today, in the Standing Room Only seats. Fun time and had a fun time at a Clark Ave. bar afterwards.
