Miller talking like Marquis and Glavine were great buddies in Atlanta, but didn't they have a fallen out,at least in the eyes of Marquis?

Crazy stealing second with 2 out and pitcher up pays off as Glav drives in Millidge with a single up the middle.

Nice highlight of Glavine skulling Bonds.

Just got back from Chicago.

My Mets-in-person-winless streak continues, but it's always a thrill to see the boys in person.

Gwreck
Aug 05 2007 06:52 PM

I was seriously considering keeping track of all the inaccurate and/or stupid things said by Miller and Morgan tonight.

Most recently: "Soriano hit 40 homers playing in RFK stadium" (Actually, Jon, he played half his games there, and hit fewer than half his homers there).

They r saying it could be just a cramp, and I can see that.
But ive never had a cramp like that while in motion. Just after maybe.

If hes down for any period of time this is huge.
Esp fantasy baseball wise (hes on my bros team and we are in a seesaw battle this week.He has Soriano going tonight, I have 3rd basebman Ramirez)

Zvon

I figured letting loDuke outta the gate tonight was good, and his bat would be fresh and productive.
Not as of yet. 0-2, weak grounders both.

Bad break for Soiano and the Cubs. That looked like a pretty bad quad blowout.

Interestingly, Willie revealed during his in-game interview with Morgan and Miller that Lastings actually had the red light there when he stole with Glavine up.

Gwreck
Aug 05 2007 07:23 PM

Morgan just said that Luis Castillo had been playing his whole career in the American League and therefore was unfamiliar with Wrigley.

Right, Joe. Except the 7 years he played with Florida. You might recall the two world series champion teams he was on.

Rockin' Doc
Aug 05 2007 07:30 PM

Castillo grabs his second wind blown pop up of the evening. Joe Morgan promptly misinforms the viewing audience that Castillo had played his entire career in the American League, so he isn't familiar with the winds at Wrigley. Jon Miller, of course, just follows along on the same stream of unconsciousness by adding that Castillo spent most of his time playing in the Metrodome so he isn't accustomed to Wrigley. According to Morgan, the winds always bring high pop ups down the right field line back toward the field of play.

Morons.

Mets up 2-0

Zvon
Aug 05 2007 07:38 PM

Green just clears DeRosa's glove with a drive to right :)

Delgado scores.
Things r lookin good.

Another weak ground out by LoDuke. :(
I expected him to be a big factor in this game and really wanted him in there tonight.

No matter.
Mets have a 3-0 lead.

Rockin' Doc
Aug 05 2007 07:38 PM

Green rips a hard liner to deep right centerfield. DeRosa takes a bad angle on a ball that probably could have been caught and the Mets get Delgado home.

Frayed Knot
Aug 05 2007 07:42 PM

We're getting a coupla breaks here:

- I think Milledge was going to be out if Pagan handles that Glavine single

- Soriano likely would have been safe at 3rd (although 'twas a nice throw by Milledge as it turned out)

- and then the replacement chain that went into effect after the Soriano injury put an infielder in RF and got Green his double.

... but we're also taking advantage of them (which is never a given) and forcing the issue in a couple of cases with agressive baserunning (Milledge's steal, Castillo's tag) so yay for us.

Gwreck
Aug 05 2007 07:46 PM

In a situation like that, for a relatively inexperienced rook to take that upon himself,in a spot like that, in a game like this, disturbs me.

So I won't.

The way Willie was talking about it he gave the red light but Milledge (or maybe Rickey) saw something and took advantage. The Cubs were probably so sure that he wasn't going either that they scarcely gave him a glance.

I suspect that's one of those things where you're allowed to go if you pick up on something despite the red light, but there'd be hell to pay if/when you don't make it.

wow--I root for the Mets ahead of my fantasy team everytime, but that Ramirez RBI just gave me that catogory (was tied 32-32) and Soriano isnt in to answer back. Yay for me :).

But the Cubs score and Glavine's up to 97 pitches.

Does he stay in?
They have some breathing room to play with here.

WOW--Kerry Wood in to pitch for Cubs.

I wouldnt mind seeing that at all. And im a fan of aggressive baseball.
But a red lights a red light.lol

Lastings with his 3rd hit :).
And Tommy stays in:)

I bet if one more Cub reaches at anytime from here on out he gets the hook.
And thats if they dont pull him anyway, and were just saving a pinch hitter there.
Nice bunt moves Milledge over

Gwreck
Aug 05 2007 08:20 PM

I would've pinch hit for Glavine (with Gotay? Anderson? We have good lefty options on the bench). This will bug me more, especially if -- as projected above -- he gets pulled if a single Cub reaches base next inning.

Zvon
Aug 05 2007 08:22 PM

Alfonso Soriano is expected to miss a minimum of two weeks and possibbly as much as a month due to the right quadriceps strain he suffered last night while attempting to go from first to third on a Ryan Theriot single. That's a tough break for the Cubs and a major blow to their offense.

Congrats to Glavine.

Not even Joe Morgan could ruin this night.

Now people may pay more attention to the cool stats I posted in honor of Glavine's 300th win (which sadly I missed seeing).

Always nice to get a Kurt Manwaring reference.

Morgan = imbecile.

="Frayed Knot"]No Joe, we're not getting Wagner up yet, it's only the 8th inning.

Joe was in rare form, even for Joe, last night. Other highlights included his gaffe about Castillo being a career American Leaguer and his brilliant statement that being aggressive on the basepaths is always beneficial as long as you don't run into outs.

That's how he earned the title Master of the Obvious from me.
