Two starts in a row for Lo Duca!

Should we start monitoring Castro's fuse?

The Braves have a pretty scary lineup. Hudson and Smoltz going the next two days...gotta take this one.

The starting pitcher sounds like a character actor from the 1950s.

Seriously, this is getting ridiculous.

I can understand giving preference to veterans, but it just makes no sense to start LoDuca over Castro right now.

Obviously Willie is sending a message to Castro, any idea what that might be?

Has LoDuca really been whining to the media?

The Mets are gonna kick ass tonight.

Who's with me?

LET'S

The 3 strikeouts were encouraging for Perez. Too bad he's already up to 90 pitches and 6 runs down.

2 men on, nobody out. We need to get a couple back here to keep us alive.

Alou = terrible.

Willie should institute a rule. Every time a batter grounds into a double play with 2 or more runners on base, he loses a testicle.

Nymr83
Aug 07 2007 06:39 PM

Milledge leads off the 5th with a double, its not too late...

Mr. Newhan triples on a 3-1 pitch. Mr. 88 will STFU.

On a night where Newhan triples, anything is possible.

Castillo with Burning Heart by Survivor, of Rocky IV fame. Well done.

Who's running the entrance music thread?

Elster88
Aug 07 2007 06:46 PM

I feel that Reyes and Wright were too anxious there. But I also told Newhan not to swing 3-1.

Wow that was crazy. It literally hit the top of the fence and came back.

Frayed Knot

Cox not taking any chances with Carlyle.
He'll empty his bullpen trying to hold onto this one.

"Is their pen any good?"

Not so good all year - but they've recently added a few new pieces in Mahay & Dotel sp there's more depth now then there's been in a while.
And Cox, moreso than most managers, will go to his pen early and use the whole lot of them trying to nail down the game at hand and then worry about the next game when he gets there.

Kid Carsey
Aug 07 2007 06:57 PM

Nice to keep unlucky-dude at second. Plenty of outs and only three down.

11 GiDP for Alou is one back of the team lead.

Well, we got nine outs and we've cleared Alou. You guys need to focus.

Kid Carsey

Did Gary freakin' objective Cohen just say that unless Alou has a debilitating
injury he's out there -- after the diving catch and commenting on how much ice
down he needs after a game -- making it sound like he's Joe Gamer?

Define DEBILITATING???

Keith & Ron making fun of Joe Morgan's comments from Sunday's game (without explicitly saying so) -- the one about Castillo being unfamiliar with Natl league parks.

Listen, whatever Frayed Knot says, assume I would'vw posted pretty much the same thing a minute later.

Seriously, if local broadcasts --- frequently staffed by contemporaries of Joe Morgan --- are making fun of Joe, how long can ESPN ignore it?

(I know. About as long as the Mets broadcast outlets could ignore Fran Healy.)

]Seriously, if local broadcasts --- frequently staffed by contemporaries of Joe Morgan --- are making fun of Joe, how long can ESPN ignore it?

Morgan's been taking a beating from that section of the print press that covers the media beat.
On the other hand, I don't think ESPN cares. I think they just like star power and assume Morgan still has it. Morgan, meanwhile, seems to think that since he played the game that his observations are correct ones ... no matter what those peksy fact things say.

Mets wriggle out of bases-loaded no-out situation in the ninth.

My only disagreement is that Morgan never actually had it.

Alou was about as clutch as pissy hands climbing across greased monkey bars.

You've had that feeling since early June.

Kid Carsey
Aug 07 2007 08:14 PM

Neither team has been lights out, it's not rocket science. The Mets blow this
series and the Phillies keep winning and everything's gonna be kinda where
most everyone thought it was going to be at the start of the season this time
of the year -- a fight til' the end.

Flingin' doo doo and yimmerin' and yammerin' about it -- eh, not for me.

Edgy DC
Aug 07 2007 08:18 PM

I'm Ok, with the yimmerin'; not so much the yammerin'.

The doo-doo is right out.

I did suggest Alou be waived a week ago..but hey..I'm never right in the clique oops I mean forum.

Kid Carsey
Aug 07 2007 08:57 PM

Name one team in a similar circumstance that has just waived a player
with Alou's contract/player seniority status.

Why should the Mets break new ground and just cut him?

Are there players on the Mets that want him cut out right?

How would treating him that way affect future signing possiblities?

Please, the martyr thing's been done.

As for cliques, you're annoying ... do you deny trying to be annoying?

Yeah, but I've been feeling optimistic since mid-July. This game is just a temporary downturn if the Mets win tomorrow. In fact I'm getting psyched for it right now. The Braves and their fans are feeling all cahnfident, but the Mets are going to smack 'em down in heartbreaking fashion. You just watch.

HahnSolo
Aug 08 2007 07:38 AM

My optimism fades with every lackluster performance, and the growing realization that the moxy of 2006 is long gone, but then the Phillies go in the tank and lose 4 out of 5, giving me renewed hope.

I worry that if the Mets ever get passed in first place that the team doing the passing will not look back.

One small point from the game and I had no internet access at the time to voice it: On Andruw's bloop single before Francoeur's HR, can I get a little more effort from Castillo chasing the ball? Would he have caught it?Probably no. But he looked way too lackadaisacal going after it.
