IGT - 8/10 - Fish at Mets

Centerfield

The rain has to stop. I can't have that bitter taste from yesterday sit for another day.

Aug 10 2007 11:04 AM

Send the rain down here if you don't want it. We will gladly take it, even over the weekend. We are in the midst of a drought down herem and the 100+ degree temperatures aren't helping matters either.

A few Mets victories wouldn't hurt either. Well, a sweep of the Marlins may not help the plants and crops much, but they would sure improve my disposition.

Looks to be getting brighter out there,at least here in Westchester, should be fine by game time, cold I bet though.

Come on you Mets....

I actually wouldn't mind a rainout. Could give them a chance to rest up the bullpen (used somewhat heavily this week) and reflect on the general suckiness of a large part of the series vs. ATL.

I'm not going to give them a pass for yesterday, but I don't want to draw to much from it. A sweltering day like that, anything can happen. Maine goes through the order pretty well the first time, and leaves two a little too far over the plate to two great hitters and they made him pay. Kelly Johnson got on base before that by a popup falling in.

I'm more pissed about Hudson getting that run home with the bunt and generally with the Braves getting those two tack-ons, but if Willie Harris is a tickle slower, it's a different ballgame.

Nobody dominated. It could have gone either way. Beltran's coming back, Milledge is getting better every day, and nobody can bust a 41-year-old Alou inside. Damned if I'm going to let yesterday deflate me.

I read in the paper that Marlon Anderson is on bereavement leave. (I can't find it now; I think it was his grandmother or grandfather who died.)

So he's gone for three days. Speculation was that the Mets would recall either Chip Ambres or Sandy Alomar for the duration.

Any word on whether we expect to see Beltran this series? If they're thinking Ambres or Alomar, it sounds like Beltran won't see action against the Marlins.

Rain should not stop our Mets nor our piscine foe.

I want to see the Mets pissed and angry over the Braves series and venting their rage on these hapless Floridans.

Rooting for rainouts is rarely a good idea.

Brain Lawrence vs ML debut guy Dan Barone tonight.

That's your payback for all the; I'm driving around with the top down today while the rest of y'all are freezing up there' comments.

Traditionally, we don't do well against kid pitchers making their debut.

Well, technically speaking, looking at our all-time W/L record, we don't do well against anyone.

Gary Cohen said something to that effect (about the Mets struggling against rookies) during yesterday's broadcast.

I'd like to see stats (over the last ten years, maybe) showing how starting pitchers typically do in their big league debut. It does seem like a lot of them do pretty well.

Edgy DC
Aug 10 2007 12:37 PM

It seems to be something peeps of all teams believe they suffer from.

In a game where the very best pitchers have a .667 winning percentage and no-goodniks have a .333 winning percentage, I don't know why we don't all accept that we're going to take our knocks against people we haven't heard of before.

They're in the bigs for a reason.

Makes one wonder why every team doesn't simply bring up 162 different pitchers in the course of a season.

Does anybody post in the game threads anymore? Come on, people! Now who the hell is this Barone dude?

Kid Carsey
Aug 10 2007 06:27 PM

He's the lost brother from the Everybody Loves Raymond pilot?

As for posting in IGT's, it's hit or miss on who's into it. It's Friday night and
summer is quickly coming to a close ... it's good people got better things to
do than post here.

Watching the weather at Shea is funny on tv, it's 52 degrees on the thermo
outside my bathroom window and it feels like October.

Valadius

Please walk the pitcher...

Rockin' Doc
Aug 10 2007 06:38 PM

Thankfully, it's been raining here since around 3:30 this afternoon.

If the Mets offense doesn't start doing something against this Barone clown I'll soon be wishing it had continued raining at Shea.

2-0 Fish after 4 innings. The Mets limited to 2 singles thus far.

Kid Carsey
Aug 10 2007 06:48 PM

Reyes, Castillo .. the table is set.

I meant 57 degrees, still, it's chilly for 8/10.

From Weasel's recently played list:

]Last night a little dancer came dancin' to my door
Last night a little angel Came pumpin cross my floor
She said "Come on baby I got a license for love
And if it expires pray help from above!"

In the midnight hour she cried- "more, more, more"
With a rebel yell she cried- "more, more, more"
In the midnight hour babe- "more, more, more"
With a rebel yell- "more, more, more"

She don't like slavery, she won't sit and beg
But when I'm tired and lonely she sees me to bed
What set you free and brought you to be me babe
What set you free I need you hear by me
Because

In the midnight hour she cried- "more, more, more"
With a rebel yell she cried- "more, more, more"
In the midnight hour babe- "more, more, more"
With a rebel yell- "more, more, more"

He lives in his own heaven
Collects it to go from the seven eleven
Well he's out all night to collect a fare
Just so long, just so long it don't mess up his hair.

I walked the world with you, babe
A thousand miles with you
I dried your tears of pain, babe
A million times for you

I'd sell my soul for you babe
For money to burn with you
I'd give you all, and have none, babe
Just, just, justa, justa to have you here by me
Because

In the midnight hour she cried- "more, more, more"
With a rebel yell she cried- "more, more, more"
In the midnight hour babe- "more, more, more"
With a rebel yell she cried "more, more, more"

Oh yeah little baby
she want more

Oh yeah little baby
she want more

I will defer to those who saw replays -- but in person it certainly looked like it was just hit out of Carlos' reach.

Tough break for the Mets but with Wagner having been so good (this was only blown save #2 on the season, right?) I'm not so worried about him.

The rest of the team of course sat around waiting for the big homer (and it did come) and didn't get runs in when needed to in the other innings.

Was a good crowd on a crappy night (sweatshirts -- in mid August?). Really frustrating.

I only saw it on replay on ESPN in a bar, it looked like he got spun around. Were we tied at that point or still up one?

Frayed Knot

]Were we tied at that point or still up one?

Still up one. It became a 2-RBI 2B that flipped things from one run up to one run down.

Beltran didn't play it well - he didn't get a good jump and looked over the wrong shoulder at first - but I don't think he catches it even if he did.

Edgy DC
Aug 11 2007 06:32 AM

He took a half step in and turned the wrong way and still got within five feet of it. I think that one nestles comfortably in his glove if he breaks right.
