The rain has to stop. I can't have that bitter taste from yesterday sit for another day.
|
Rockin' Doc Aug 10 2007 11:04 AM |
Send the rain down here if you don't want it. We will gladly take it, even over the weekend. We are in the midst of a drought down herem and the 100+ degree temperatures aren't helping matters either.

Looks to be getting brighter out there,at least here in Westchester, should be fine by game time, cold I bet though.
|
Gwreck Aug 10 2007 11:09 AM |
I actually wouldn't mind a rainout. Could give them a chance to rest up the bullpen (used somewhat heavily this week) and reflect on the general suckiness of a large part of the series vs. ATL.

I'm not going to give them a pass for yesterday, but I don't want to draw to much from it. A sweltering day like that, anything can happen. Maine goes through the order pretty well the first time, and leaves two a little too far over the plate to two great hitters and they made him pay. Kelly Johnson got on base before that by a popup falling in.

I read in the paper that Marlon Anderson is on bereavement leave. (I can't find it now; I think it was his grandmother or grandfather who died.)

Rain should not stop our Mets nor our piscine foe.

Rooting for rainouts is rarely a good idea.
That's your payback for all the; I'm driving around with the top down today while the rest of y'all are freezing up there' comments.

Traditionally, we don't do well against kid pitchers making their debut.

A statement made by fans of all 30 MLB teams.
|
Centerfield Aug 10 2007 12:28 PM |
Well, technically speaking, looking at our all-time W/L record, we don't do well against anyone.

Gary Cohen said something to that effect (about the Mets struggling against rookies) during yesterday's broadcast. I'd like to see stats (over the last ten years, maybe) showing how starting pitchers typically do in their big league debut. It does seem like a lot of them do pretty well.

Edgy DC Aug 10 2007 12:37 PM |
It seems to be something peeps of all teams believe they suffer from.

I've been somewhat tuned out, was he expected back tonight?

Makes one wonder why every team doesn't simply bring up 162 different pitchers in the course of a season.

Does anybody post in the game threads anymore? Come on, people! Now who the hell is this Barone dude?

Jacobs with the sub-.300 OBP, looking less like Jeff Bagwell every day.
|
Rockin' Doc Aug 10 2007 07:03 PM |
I really like three run home runs (when the right team hits them).
|
Valadius Aug 10 2007 07:03 PM |
That's not nice of Tom McCarthy to imply that Mike Jacobs' recent hitless slump was because his wife gave birth to their first children.

I hope this rally fizzles, but this Gregg Jeffries material is golden.

I'll take it Mr. Lawrence.

What's maddening is that Reyes is popping out on breaking balls down in the zone, stuff he should be pounding down and beating out on high hops.

Please, you've been gone for months. Mommy says we've got a new Valadius now.

Gardner's curve doesn't look that wicked but it's fooling the Mets.

I will defer to those who saw replays -- but in person it certainly looked like it was just hit out of Carlos' reach.
|
Elster88 Aug 11 2007 12:56 AM |
|
I only saw it on replay on ESPN in a bar, it looked like he got spun around. Were we tied at that point or still up one?
|
Frayed Knot Aug 11 2007 05:19 AM |
|
Still up one. It became a 2-RBI 2B that flipped things from one run up to one run down. Beltran didn't play it well - he didn't get a good jump and looked over the wrong shoulder at first - but I don't think he catches it even if he did.
|
Edgy DC Aug 11 2007 06:32 AM |
He took a half step in and turned the wrong way and still got within five feet of it. I think that one nestles comfortably in his glove if he breaks right.
