Paul LoDuca, Time Bomb

Marty Noble wrote:
Paul Lo Duca said Friday, "I expect to play" when he spoke of the Mets' Saturday afternoon game at Wrigley. Why, after being unable to talk his way into the lineup for four games, was he so optimistic?

"Because," he said, "I told them I'm playing."

Ramon Castro started on Saturday, and Randolph later indicated Lo Duca probably won't play until Tuesday.

If he doesn't get to start tonight when Glavine goes for his 300th victory LoDuca will likely explode.

Are Minaya and Randolph sending a message here to LoDuca, any speculation on that.

I don't think there's a "message" any more complicated than one that says they don't want to play him while he's not 100% healthy (or as close to 100% as a catcher can get in August).

What could be interesting to watch is how the playing time gets split after LoDuca does get the OK to return.
I (as well as others here) was calling for a closer-to-equitable division of labor from the very beginning of last season - although a better than expected year from LoDuca and Castro's injury made it a lost season for Ramon.
Now may finally be the right time for that kind of mix.

Ran into LoDuca in a Chicago bar last night, he said what you'd expect him to say if a fan asked "Hey are you playing tomorrow" which is "Yeah, I really hope so" so that comes with the usual grain of salt.

Steve, tell me you asked him a dozen followup questions.

SJRogers certainly does lead a charmed baseball life.

I was gonna say I met LoDuca's wife in a NY bar last night and asked her
if she missed red-ass but couldn't come up with a punch line ... oh wait ...

Yeah I'm going to do that in a crowded bar. Actually I might have if there were only a handfull of people there and it didn't look like Paul was just in for a quick looksee before heading elsewhere.

I did bump into Tom Glavine by the front desk, told him I've been a fan of his since 1991 and that I enjoyed that quickie book he did back after the 1995 season and that he should do another one (or find someone to ghost write another one)

My cousin and I did have a longer chat with Wifey Glavine (we think she was Mrs. Glavine) about not getting 300 in Milwaukee and maybe getting it at Shea during the week if not tonight.

Couldn't hurt, and if it did, you sue him silly.
