IGT 08/16, Mets at Pirates

Kid Carsey

Mets up 2-sniffle on another Alou ding-dong. Lastings out with flu-like symp-
toms, Green at first for Delgado who is a little hobbled, and Marlon in right.
Lawrence on the hill.

Big 2 out seeing-eye single for Lawrence after Anderson & DiFelice fail to scoop the poop with 0 out and sacks juicy. Then Reyes walks finishing Tony Armless Jr. with 5 runs in 2.2 IP

Friar Lawrence has them no-hit through three, leads off the fourth with a walk, opens LaRoche with a ball, and DiFelice comes to chat.

Dunno what DiFelice said, but LaRoche hit the next ball a mile.

Five-two, Mets.

So I'm driving home from the office and listening to the game and it's 5-0. Then I open my door, flip on the TV and Adam LaRoche homers.

I'm gonna go do laundry or Simpsonize Phillip Humber or something.

Brian Lawrence, professional hitter.

Jack Clark with the ball inside the jersey trick

Nice leaping grab by Sanchez. Beltan would have been 4-5.

Performing after the game at PNC: Styx.

Guillermo Mota, lousy pitcher.

Tying runs on for the Pittsenbourgers.

Edgy DC
Aug 16 2007 07:40 PM

Bay drives one home. Tying guy on second.

Edgy DC
Aug 16 2007 07:41 PM

Heilman freezes up.

Bases loaded, no out.

Edgy DC
Aug 16 2007 07:42 PM

First pitch ties it up.

Bullpen blues.

Rockin' Doc
Aug 16 2007 07:43 PM

Bases are still juiced with Pirates and no outs.

bmfc1
Aug 16 2007 07:45 PM

Phew. Win or lose, the bullpen is shot for the very important, must win (to me) Nationals series.

Edgy DC
Aug 16 2007 07:46 PM

And we get all three outs with the bases loaded and nobody else scoring.

So, Lawrence won't get the win. Another will.

ANOTHER WILL!

Edgy DC
Aug 16 2007 07:50 PM

Jeez, Jack Wilson is out of the game with an asthma attack.

Can anything else bad happen to this guy? Trade him to another loving team NOW!!!!

Heilman going back out for the bottom of the ninth ... let's bring the leather.

Edgy DC
Aug 16 2007 08:00 PM

Delgado, Milledge, and Easley remain on the bench, awaiting the opportunity to punish.

Wright... with one of his ol' ninth-inning errors. Had the ball stuck on the previous play also.

bmfc1
Aug 16 2007 08:00 PM

Holy crap. Why'd they pitch to LaRoche with Bay on deck?

Edgy DC
Aug 16 2007 08:01 PM

Why did we pitch to La Roche?

bmfc1
Aug 16 2007 08:04 PM

Thanks a f'in lot David Wright. And if DeFelice catches the ball, no runs score. They're playing a crap team, lead by 5, and can't put it away. Pathetic.

Edgy DC
Aug 16 2007 08:04 PM

Oh, come on. What a terrible decison by Alou.

Someone tell me why we're losing to the Pirates!

Edgy DC
Aug 16 2007 08:07 PM

David Wright opened the gates with an error.

We're losing to the Pirates because the 3d baseman blew a play, the 4th string catcher dropped a ball, this team has no killer instinct and this team has problems in the 'pen, other than Wagner and Sosa. Mota should be released before tomorrow's game and a fresh arm brought in (no, I don't have any bright ideas about who that might be but he'll be better than Sosa).

At least those that showed up half way through the game for the Styx show will be happy.

Why is DeFelice hitting? I guess Delgado can't go.

Rockin' Doc
Aug 16 2007 08:12 PM

Outside of Wagner, I have virtually no faith in the ability of our relievers to get people out.

metsguyinmichigan
Aug 16 2007 08:13 PM

Horrible. Absolutely horrible.

I know it's good to take 2 of 3, but dammit, we had this one in the bag.

Terrible.

Edgy DC
Aug 16 2007 08:14 PM

if we can't pinch-hit for DiFelice here, we don't have a full roster.

K.

Kid Carsey

bm: >>>this team has no killer instinct<<<

Yeah, dammit, we need to kill!!!

Frayed Knot

Not pinch-hitting Delgado for DiFelice probably means Castro can't play.
Besides, you're not going to waste hitting Delgado w/bases empty when you're 3 runs down.

Easley does his job. Takes all the way at 0-0, 1-0, 2-0, 3-0, 3-1, before finally digging in on 3-2.

Got the walk.

bmfc1

"Besides, you're not going to waste hitting Delgado w/bases empty when you're 3 runs down."

I know. I meant that I expected to see Easley or Milledge at that point but if DeFelice was hitting, that meant WR was saving them for later and Delgado couldn't go if there were 2 on. I stated it imperfectly.

Worst. Lost. Of. The. Season.

Not only blowing several multi-run leads and doing so to a bad team but to a bad team playing badly.

This team is weird. Hadda leave 15 men on base, the bullpen gives up stuff,
Wright with the error is a goat, but is he really?

And bm, I'm an assclown, you'll get used to me.

Willets Point
Aug 16 2007 08:32 PM

We have had a lot of really sucky losses to the Pirates in recent seasons.

Note to Frayed: This is an off-the-cuff statement based entirely on feelings and impressions. It probably won't stand up under statistical analysis so you don't have to tell me so.

Apologies to Beltran, I credited Alou in the opening post of this thread with
a misplaced ding-dong.
