Power from 1B...I like it.

A minor earthquake felt in the DC area as Dmitri Young takes a tumble catching a Castillo foul ball.

Wright picked off but without question was safe at second going on first motion.

Bad call...but David should have been out even if he wasn't.

That was one of the best double plays I've seen in many a year....Edgy what did it look like live?

Just checking in real quick. Woohoo, we're winning.

Nice job by Glavvy tonight. He even mad it look like a good idea to go another inning by walking in his AB. (course his mates screw up getting him in).

Again they're looking at Sosa to pitch the 8th. Whatever happened to Feliciano?

2 run triple for DiFelice. Wow.

Between Ray King, Dmitri Young and Ron Belliard Washington may be pound for pound the fattest team in the league.

Well there's Feliciano. May as well pitch the bottom of the inning as long as the lead is comfy.

That should help get Feliciano back in Willie's good graces.

Nice job by Feliciano getting the final 5 outs while allowing only one walk.

Back from Shea, I mean, RFK. I've been to many Mets games in DC the last three years but tonight may have been the loudest we've been. In the 8th, we were singing "Jose, Jose, Jose" and I noticed that Castillo, who was on deck, looked up toward the crowd. Maybe he was wondering if he was really on the road.

See, that's why umps blow this call so much. It's a tough play, with the runner bearing down on the player covering second, directly in line with the throw. The throw has to come in high to clear the runner, and then the infielder has to get the tag down.

But the ump feels that the runner is morally undeserving of the call and never gives it to him.

That's crap. Stealing on a lefthander involves guesswork.

Other highlights:

  • Dmitri young absolutely consumed the turf in going for that pop.
  • From my perch in right field, I could see that Autsin Kearns' route to Mike DiFelice's double was turning it into a triple. It's a nice feeling knowing a moment after the ball leaves the bat that the journeyman backup catcher is going to get himself a triple.
  • Best jersey on the way back: a Doug Meintkiewicz road jersey

  • Got a quiz on the train-ride home administered by Noberto from the Bronx, grilling me on 1969 Mets names and numbers. I did pretty well, thanks to MbtN.net.

Mets, baby. Gotta love a Met fan crazy enough to be that optimistic about the Mientkiewicz era.
