Is this one for tomorrow or today?

This Lannan kid grew up a Met fan (or so the story goes) in Long Beach, L.I., playing his HS ball in the Catholic school leagues for Chaminade HS (had he gone to the public schools I could have had access to a better scouting report as I knew the basseball coach at Long Beach HS).

Anyway, he's making his 5th ML start. He got tossed in his first one after hitting 2 consecutive batters (ridiculous call) against Philly. Since then he's held Cincy, SF & Ariz to 2 runs or less in each start, including NOT giving up the record breaker to Bonds the day before he ultimately got it off Bacsik.

We're up 1-0 on a Castillo KABOOM!

Lannan's first big league hit gives them the lead. this kinda stuff seems to always happen to the mets

Is it just me, or has Perez looked really jittery lately?

Valadius

Nationals have 2 errors in only three innings.

Nymr83
Aug 18 2007 06:13 PM

Milledge struck out looking on a close pitch that looked low, keith said that he should swing because "when you're new to the league you've gotta earn a reputation to get the close ones."
While I agree that you should swing at anything close with 2 strikes, I find the idea tha the zone should be different (or that the umpire should rely on the batter's reaction to the pitch) to be utter bullshit.

D-Wright smacked a double to bring in our speedy double-play combo and give us a 4-2 lead.

yikes

if easley plays again this season we'll be lucky. that was the nastiest popped ankle i've seen in a while.

Well this is fucking wonderful.

Who do we have at N'awlins that can replace Easley?

Valadius
Aug 18 2007 06:56 PM

Ok, who sprinkled magic dust on Mike DiFelice? Where did this bat come from all of a sudden?

green'll play a bit of first i suppose, with milledge getting the lions share of games in right. Delgado'll be back before the tuesday I'd say.

How do you make that statement about Delgado? What'd you hear?

Someone get Pedro on the phone with Oliver Twist please!

Re: Delgado, Elster, they said on the tv that he may even play tomorrow.
Of course, Alou was coming back for what seemed like weeks and it wasn't
predicted correctly.

from will carroll's column
"It could have been worse for Carlos Delgado. The hyperextended knee that he suffered could well have meant a torn ligament or two given the way it bent, but Delgado's strong legs likely saved him. While it's an injury that will initially be very sore and was very scary, it tends to return to normal quickly. With the demonstrated strength in Delgado's knee—just watch the video and see how his thigh contracts to return the leg to neutral—he should be back in the lineup quickly and without any significant effect to his game."

Not for nothing buthow on earth does anyone believe Will Carroll can diagnose an injury by watching video? (probably over the web?!?) I can guess Easley needs 5 weeks but I'm not presumptuous enough to say it with the certainty that Carroll might.

I just want it on record that I advocated Omar get a reliable reliever and a RH bench bat at the deadline. Now we need both.

Gutty win if we can pull this one out.

Easley's injury couldn't be predicted, we needed the reliever then and still do now. 10 days of Flores and Alomar may make us want to see if Piazza can get through waivers

Real shame. Easley is the active leader in games played without a postseason apperance.

And we gain a game over the Phillies and Braves!

1) You of course mean DiFelice and Alomar

2) Piazza already has cleared waivers according to several sources (even though these things are supposed to be secret). But he also hasn't caught in nearly a year (didn't even work at it in ST) and ... how do you say, wasn't real good at it back when he was catching.
He is, at this point, a DH and we're a non-DH league.

Didn't Piazza already clear? I don't think we would use him to catch, only as a RH pinch hitter.

Depends on who you're looking for from New Orleans. Available middle infielders are Anderson Hernandez, Jason Alfaro, or Jake Gatreau. Corner infielders are Fernando Tatis or Andy Tracy.

If you want to got to AA for help, there's secondbaseman Mark Kiger (Bedhead Barbie's husband) and firstbaseman Brett Harper.

Valadius

I can't wait until we bring Brett Harper up (which we presumably will in September, right?)

Third degree sprain for Easley. Done for the season, no?

WASHINGTON -- Damion Easley became the latest member of the Mets to fall victim to injury after spraining his ankle during Saturday's game.
Doctors diagnosed it as a third-degree sprain, which will almost certainly end his season.

I took my family to last night's game. 3:30 is not fun, even when your team wins. As with Friday, tons of Mets fans although there were more Nats fans because of Abe Lincoln Bobblehead Night (today is John Wilkes Booth Bobblehead Day). In attendance last night: Cowbell Man! He was wearing his jersey but did not hit (ring?) the cowbell. Something that you don't see at Shea: Jose Reyes came out the last two nights for his first at bat before anybody was on the field--the umpire/manager meeting hadn't even started and there was Jose out there getting ready. I love that.

It is wrong. But funny.

I went over to bmfc's section on Friday night, but it was a sea of Mets clothing.
