I'm just getting here. It's 4-1 and one post?! Creepy.

The Padre unis look like butter.

seawolf17
Aug 21 2007 06:22 PM

And not even nice, delicious, creamery butter; butter that's been left in the fridge too long.

I'm here, just too lazy to post.

Edgy DC
Aug 21 2007 06:24 PM

Castillo has walked twice like a good man and been driven home twice by Beltran with a double and a homer.

The two fellow franchise faces haven't reached yet in four trips, or else Young might be done.

Edgy DC
Aug 21 2007 06:39 PM

Chris Young is a nice pitcher to be beating up on, and one we have a good chance to see in September.

Edgy DC
Aug 21 2007 06:40 PM

Cammy KaSlammy drives one out to left and it's 4-2.

Edgy DC
Aug 21 2007 06:47 PM

Can't blame a guy for falling, but that was no time for Alou to be aggressive.

Edgy DC
Aug 21 2007 06:51 PM

Schoeneweis does the job in a unusually crucial situation.

bmfc1
Aug 21 2007 07:04 PM

Hurry back Endy! The Mets OF needs you for late inning D!

bmfc1
Aug 21 2007 07:09 PM

Gosh darn 0-2 pitches. What the hell?

Edgy DC
Aug 21 2007 07:10 PM

Yeah, sloppy outfielding today is the story.

Edgy DC
Aug 21 2007 07:11 PM

Damn, Green has been swinging at garbage all night. Why does he see an 0-2 strike?

seawolf17
Aug 21 2007 07:24 PM

Ugly.

Edgy DC
Aug 21 2007 07:27 PM

Wow. Thanks for the swing and miss, thanks for the out.

Edgy DC
Aug 21 2007 07:27 PM

Aaron probably thinks that inning was about him.

Edgy DC
Aug 21 2007 07:30 PM

Give Bell Hell.

Just get on, Jose.

Edgy DC
Aug 21 2007 07:36 PM

What a job by Castillo.

seawolf17
Aug 21 2007 07:37 PM

Wow. Nice AB by Luis Castillo there. Come on, David.

Rockin' Doc
Aug 21 2007 07:37 PM

Reyes on third with one out for Wright. The Mets have to get this run in.

Edgy DC
Aug 21 2007 07:37 PM

C'mon, Angel!

seawolf17
Aug 21 2007 07:38 PM

seawolf17

Squeeze.

Edgy DC
Aug 21 2007 07:39 PM

Beltran from the left side. Tough to double up.

seawolf17
Aug 21 2007 07:40 PM

We hate Angel Hernandez, don't we?

Hey Carlos, get the bat off your fucking shoulder.

seawolf17
Aug 21 2007 07:41 PM

CAR-LOS!

Rockin' Doc
Aug 21 2007 07:42 PM

In Carlos we trust.

seawolf17
Aug 21 2007 07:43 PM

Other Carlos, just relax. Remember, GIDPs are bad.

Edgy DC
Aug 21 2007 07:43 PM

The score: Padres 5, Carlos Beltran's fucking shoulder 5.

seawolf17
Aug 21 2007 07:45 PM

Effin' A. Come on, Moises.

seawolf17
Aug 21 2007 07:46 PM

S'okay, fellas. Nice job tying it up.

Don't give it back, Aaron.

Rockin' Doc
Aug 21 2007 07:46 PM

Hey Heath, Moises can't hit an inside fastball. All you have to do is challenge him and you're out of the inning.

Edgy DC
Aug 21 2007 07:47 PM

Tie game aside, that inside slider Bell was throwing to the lefties looked nasty.

Good functional inning.

Edgy DC
Aug 21 2007 07:51 PM

Weathers gets Francoeur and the Reds beat the Braves.

seawolf17
Aug 21 2007 07:56 PM

Bases effin' loaded. Effin' A.

And just like that, it's 6-5.

EFF.

Edgy DC
Aug 21 2007 07:59 PM

Not over yet.

Playoff baseball tonight. Playoff teams and playoff weather.

Look for some Conine action in the ninth inning.

seawolf17
Aug 21 2007 08:02 PM

Lastings gets it going with a leadoff single.

Don't fucking bunt, Willie.

seawolf17
Aug 21 2007 08:02 PM

I hate the sacrifice bunt.

seawolf17
Aug 21 2007 08:03 PM

Willie chooses Marlon (3-6 with a HR vs Hoffman) over Green and Conine.

seawolf17
Aug 21 2007 08:04 PM

Willie Randolph is a genius.

I apologize about the whole bunt thing.

In the bottom of the 9th of a thrilling game, do they really have to tell the crowd to "clap yo hands"? Let it happen naturally!

seawolf17
Aug 21 2007 08:07 PM

Fucking genius.

I LOVE THIS TEAM.

Suck it, Mister Career Saves Leader.

Rockin' Doc

Isn't this great?

Edgy DC
Aug 21 2007 08:09 PM

Is Castillo our best deadline deal ever yet?

bmfc1
Aug 21 2007 08:10 PM

I had my eye on the Philadelphia game... when the Padres took the lead, the TV announcers and fans went nuts... I hope they enjoyed the bottom of the 9th from Shea.

metsguyinmichigan
Aug 21 2007 08:10 PM

Anybody miss Jose Valentin? Me neither!

Nice vulture win for Wagner.

Tip of the cap to Lastings, too!

Rockin' Doc
Aug 21 2007 08:11 PM

I wonder if JD is starting to warm to Castillo.

Great win! If only the Phillies had lost this would have been an almost perfect night of baseball.

Excuse me, I have to go eat some shit.

By the way, how much fun is it to listen to Gary Cohen call a Mets walkoff win? Love it.

Gwreck
Aug 21 2007 08:50 PM

Suck It, Hoffman.

Disagreed with Randolph's strategy in the 9th but it sure worked out ok. I would hit for DiFelice. Wouldn't have bunted. Would've had Anderson hit away there. Then would've used Green to hit in the pitcher's spot.

]I wonder if JD is starting to warm to Castillo.

We talked about it a little in the middle innings. He's really come up big in several spots now. I really like the effort I see from him; how much fun he has; that he and Reyes have taken a shine to each other; etc.

(A Boy Named Seo was a no-show. Hope the weather didn't keep him away).

Fun game, but I still worry about our 'pen. Pedro, come back soon!

i was there tonight, what a fucking game

Johnny Dickshot
Aug 21 2007 09:26 PM

Castillo's been a lot better than I expected.

Not for nothing but tonight was my third walkoff Met victory in person and improved me to 5-0 on the year.

Edgy DC
Aug 21 2007 09:35 PM

Castillo, in his broken English, answered the same way to each of the postgame questions, "We go out, and play hard, you know. Play hard and make things happen. Hard. You know, play hard and that's the way you win. Win hard."

I imagine that it couldn't have pleased Randolph more if there were strings attached.

Johnny Dickshot
Aug 21 2007 09:50 PM

WWSB was asked why Castillo's been such a good addition and he replied "He's a winner!"

I think any major leaguer acquired for 2 longshot prospects has to be viewed with at least some tempered enthusiasm. The biggest hits in the 9th of course belonged to Milledge, Anderson and Reyes.

I was so wet and so cold, I dropped 25 smackeroonies for a new T-shirt, which I wore over my work shirt, t-shirt and under my raincoat. August? It's a badass shirt though, green with Mr. Met on the front.

Other than Cla Meredith, seemed like no pitcher had a decent night. Maine it seemed was especially bad: I think the wind, strong in from left, prevented Adrian Gonzalez from hitting a 3-run HR there in the early innings.

Mike Cameron is probably the easiest of the Padres to strike out but he came through twice when the Mets really needed to strike him out. Discouraged over the 0-2 hits allowed by Sosa and Schoeneweis, though it seemed SS deserved better: His whiff of Giles was quite excellent.

Oh, btw, Met lovin Big Shot George Thorogood was there and sang a... um, not that great impromptu Take Me Out to the Ballgame on the dugout. There's a reason they give him a guitar.

Is that slight downturn in the nint before the spike Di Felice's bunt?

It's gotta be, right? No matter what the situation, getting an out increases win probability.

(Except maybe a game-winning sac fly)

Let me know next time you're going. 16-20 this year, including an baffingly bad 12-17 at Shea.

I'm 0-2 this season (0-4 if you count spring training) and shockingly, I have not witnessed a regular-season Mets win since 1991.

So do I - as I've mentioned a few (thousand) times on these same airwaves - but ...
- in the 9th inning
- needing one run to tie the game
- with a light-hitting 3rd-string catcher due up
- facing an all-time closer that's tough to score on in any situation

the sac bunt was absolutely the right move in that situation.

(IMHO of course).

Edgy DC
Aug 22 2007 07:40 AM

You like it better than sending Marlon Anderson up there for DiFelice and Green up there for the pitcher?

Edgy DC
Aug 22 2007 07:46 AM

Marlon lifetime against Hoffman going into this year: 2-4 with a double and a homer. (Retrosheet says that's incomplete.)

Shawn Greeen lifetime against Hoffman going into this year: 3-15 with two walks and no extra-base hits.

Frayed Knot
Aug 22 2007 07:49 AM

When I need one run, against Hoffman, and would have to PH two straight hitters while removing my best defensive catcher in a tight game ... yes.

Edgy DC
Aug 22 2007 07:50 AM

Well, I understand. But sending Anderson up there followed by Green would be aimed at being a one-run strategy also.

Frayed Knot
Aug 22 2007 07:57 AM

Green is barely a better bet than DiFelice to get a hit these days.
The bunt strategy works best here because it was DiFelice due up, AND you could get through his AB while staying out of the GiDP to get the runner into scoring position, AND setting it up for the best off-the-bench guy who happens to have good numbers against Hoffman.
I like that better than depending on several PHers to come through before you get to the top of the order.

Edgy DC
Aug 22 2007 08:03 AM

Maybe the best thing about the bunt is that, if successful, it does guarantee that the lineup flips over with a run in scoring position.

The un-seen benefit of just sending Anderson up there is, if he doesn't get a hit, he maybe advances the runner also --- a lefthanded groundball hitter that he is. Maybe he hits into a doubleplay --- he hit into 28 in 2001-2002.

But, he could single the runner to third. No bunt will do that.

I'm of two minds here. It think Randolph liked the Anderson-Hoffman matchup a lot.

Didn't see her until she got to first. And neither did security. Dragged her off quickly. What a moron.

Thought the usual media policy was to ignore this stuff as to discourage it by not showing the perp(s) when they go on the field. SNY showed a quick camera shot of the person being dragged off but no commentary on it from Gary or Ron.

Johnny Dickshot
Aug 22 2007 09:07 AM

She looked like a 9-year-old. I missed it too until the cops showed up.

I think they "gave" her to Pedro Feliciano in the bullpen.

Sorry I missed you guys. I was in NJ with a few friends and the weather made the other 3 I was supposed to go with change plans. I went to the city and got a hotel and hung out with a girl instead and got text messages all night about the wonderful game I was missing. Serves me right.

I think I made that sound better than it was. There was a hotel and a girl, but the two never met. A nice night, but the outcome of the game made it sting a little that I skipped it.
