We beat Peavy back on July 17th for our only win of that series out in Sandy Eggo. El Ducky tossed a 7-inning 2-hitter and we got to Peavy for 3 runs over 6 then smacked the pen around for 4 mainly against the since departed Royce Ring

Good guys stealing up a storm against the Pads backup catcher

Mendoza Line
Aug 22 2007 06:05 PM

...and get nothing to show for it after Beltran K's and Delgado flies to left. Ouch.

Through Delgado's legs, Castillo can't find the handle, and it's 3-zip Padres.

4-zip as Cameron forgets that he's supposed to strike out in this situation. Milton Bradley makes a game slide past DiFelice and gives a shoutout to the ump for calling him safe.

This is gettling less and less pretty.

And Reyes makes things a little better by starting a nice DP at short.

Reyes steals third and knocks Roger Cedeno out of the club record book. Not sure why he needed to steal third with 2 out and Beltran up, but what the heck.

Beltran gets the good guys right back into the ballgame.

Mota couldn't stink any more than he does.

There can't be any way Mota's on the postseason roster!

I'm not one to moan and groan too much about the Mets, but if we're gonna
moan and groan let's moan and groan some in the direction of Delgado.

Congratulations Jose Reyes on breaking the Mets single-season stolen base record!!!

Milledge dons that golden sombrero thingy.

Lots of groaning Delgado's way.

Even a tiny bit towards Beltran. He's hot, but when we had bases loaded, 1 out he didn't get anyone in.

The Golden Sombrero Kid gets a pass for tonight. All part of growing up.

Delgado gets plenty of groans at bat and in the field.

Mota needs to get tested for performance inhibiting drugs.

I'd say Castillo is fitting in nicely!

Blum drops the pop-up but forces Castillo out at second.

Why was that not an infield fly rule out?

Only one runner could be forced out

Infield fly only applies with two or three forced runners. There wer two runners, but only one was forced.

Elster88
Aug 22 2007 08:10 PM

Who cares that we lost!! That 3-run ninth gave us a club record 10 straight games scoring 5 runs or more!!

Kid Carsey
Aug 22 2007 08:25 PM

Easier not to care when the Phils and Braves lose.

I ain't gonna harp on it, but Delgado looks like a third of his former self.

I'd be scared shitless to meet the Padres in the post-season,Peavey seems to be exactly they type of dominating pitcher that the Mets don't have, don't get me wrong I would have faith in whoever the Mets had going against Peavey but he'd be scary to possibly face twice in a series.

Nobody is a bargain in the post-season. If you asked me who I wanted to go up against last year, I'd have answered St. Louis before you were done with the quesiton.

The two teams match up well and it'd be a heckuva series.

Most offputting thing in this series has been Wagner back to nibbling against good righties. Most gratifying thing has been getting to their league-leading pen and particularly that running-on-fumes Hall-of-Fame closer. His strikeout of Delgado was on three junk pitches down-and-away, none in the zone and none cracking 77 miles per hour.

It'll be a crackling rubber match tonight, and a good time for Tom Glavine to show his quality.
