willie could argue that play where pierre went out of the baseline with the fresh footprints outside the line. this early in the game they really stand out.

Kid Carsey

Not to pick nits early in an IGT, but Pierre clearly runs out of the runners
box down the first baseline on a grounder to Delgado. Why can't Willie or
Hendo piss in the ump's ear a little by pointing out the fucking foot prints
at the very least?

You'd think Rickey at least would say something.

Milledge Ks for the 7th time in a row. 2 away from the ML record.

I'm pretty sure a RF needs to know how to hit a breaking ball.

I assume the list at "9" has a bunch of people on it but couldn't find it on
a quick google search. They said on the SNY b'cast that Bo Jackson is one.

Let's get Lasting's off the schnide next AB please ....

Mets have put together 2 runs through 3 innings against Penny. Reyes scored both and now has 97 on the season.

Perez doesn't look good and has been in jams all night. Luckily, so far he's been able to get out of them.

Disagree with bunting DiFelice there. Sure he might hit into a triple play, but that's about the worst thing that could happen.

And Penny walked 2 guys in a row coming in!

Let him off the hook and we scored jack.

Stupid.

Atlanta DFA Bob Wickman....a shocker....D Wright makes teo brilliant defensive plays in the fifth inning.....

TransMonk

Through 7: Mets lead 3-0.

In comes the bullpen. It would be refreshing to see them get 6 outs without incident.

Kid Carsey
Aug 24 2007 07:20 PM

Refreshing indeed .

TransMonk
Aug 24 2007 07:20 PM

Meanwhile in Philly:

Padres keep up their offensive surge leading the Phils 9-3 and threatening in the 7th.

Atlanta just underway in St. Louis after a rain delay.

TransMonk
Aug 24 2007 07:31 PM

Refreshing it is not as Sosa loads the bags with 1 out in the 8th.

Pedro in.

Kid Carsey
Aug 24 2007 07:32 PM

Frustrating to watch night in night out ... it's amazing this team has the
best record in the NL.

Johnny Dickshot
Aug 24 2007 07:35 PM

It's like a pen-demic. They need our support!

TransMonk
Aug 24 2007 07:35 PM

I like the offense right now, and the starting pitching has been mediocre at best...but this bullpen is utterly undependable.

Like night and day from last year.

whew.

Anyone remember that game show called "Whew!"?

David's glove saving the day.

The Dodgers only get one out of the bases loaded opportunity.

No...but according to wikipedia, their theme song was composed by Alan Thicke

Kid Carsey

No recollection on "Whew".

Mets up by two in the bottom of 8, let's get a dozen insurance runs NOW!!!

Johnny Dickshot
Aug 24 2007 07:48 PM

Nice job by Milledge.

Whew! It was a big deal when they started it. But as I recall, the gameplay was stupid.

Notice Proctor's already grown a chinmat after the MFYs booted him.

What's up with the "los" on the unis? Just noticed it.

It's the little-known holiday Fiesta Latina. Have you also noticed the PA announcer is a chick calling out the lineup in Spanish?

TransMonk
Aug 24 2007 07:59 PM

Lastings Milledge sounds the same in Spanish.

It was on for a summer and I watched it every day. I remembered it as "Phew!" I swear I would've watched hamsters sleeping.

Good win against Penny. Perez didn't look invincible, but went 7 only allowing 3 hits and no runs.

Let's get another one tomorrow.

Nice win. I wouldn't mind a blow out win so Willie could give the bullpen regulars a day off.

Meanwhile, the Padres are pounding the Phillies into submission. The Padres lead 14-3 goiing to the bottom of the ninth. I feel pretty secure that they should be able to hold on for the win.

I think it's time for a celebratory Tecate.

I only have German beer today but if my alcoholic neighbor is any indication, Beck's is a favorite of the Latin hermanos.

A funny thing about putting the article "Los" in front of the Mets is that putting articles in front of the team name and translating "Los Mets" into "The Mets" leads me to automatically read the Dodgers' road uniform as not bearing the city's name but making it look like the The Mets ("Los Mets") are playing The Angels ("Los Angeles"). I guess I never really thought of it that whenever the Dodgers are on the road, they're wearing the name of their crosstown rivals.

Shakey bullpen, bah. Imagine how the loss felt for fans of the Dodgers and celebrate. Or fans of the Angels, for that matter.

The Gauntlet of Villians was an American League team.

5Count Nibbleneck the Vampire
6Frank and his little friend Stein

3 strategy goofs by Willie:

1. The aforementioned bunt by DiFelice when there were no outs and two men on.

2. The bunt by Gotay in the 3rd. Let him hit.

3. The double steal in the first with Gotay as the lead runner.

Fiesta Latina (like Merengue Night) tends to bring a fair number of people to the park who appear more interested in the concert than the game (ie. showing up in the 6th inning, etc). Lots of stupidness/moronity as a result. Wouldn't have gone but for the good pitching matchup. Glad to see Oliver getting a solid outing for the first time in what seems like a while.

- Willie had some words with Gotay after the caught stealing so I'm not sure he called that one. An exuberant Gotay might have been caught up in all the running recently and gone on his own.
- Same might have been true with the Gotay bunt earlier - although that one wasn't so bad either way.
- Definitely didn't like the DiFelice bunt and ya gotta figure that one was called from the bench.

I just looked at the tape of the game and agree that the first two were poor decisions/execution by Gotay.
