Damn, you just beat me to it.

The Mets have gone Dutch, signing 18-year-old Dutch 3B Marinus Vernooij (no, that's not a typo).

While there has never been a Mets fan born in the Netherlands, Ralph Milliard was born in the Dutch Antilles.

I believe Andruw Jones is from the Dutch Antilles too.

Yeah, Curacao ... been there a couple of times, he's like god down there.

There are two kinds of people I hate in this world.
People who are intolerant of others
and THE DUTCH! -Nigel Powers (Michael Caine)
Austin Powers in Goldmember

Be the first one on your block.

Anybody else hoping he makes it to the majors in time to hear how Ralphie tries to pronounce his name?

If he makes it to the majors, does he set the record for most vowels in a row? Or does he just tie Henry Aaron?

I guess it's a matter of definition. :)

I don't get the title of this thread because this player is actually from the Netherlands according to the article.

I'm guessing because we usually scout and sign young international players from Latin America.

Gaht it!

I was thinking it referred to the fact that so many of the Dutch WBC players were from Carribean islands and not actually from the Netherlands (which doesn't appear to be the case with this guy).

And because Omar hates white people.

What, you think just because he's from Amsterdam he's white?

Oh, wait.

He is.

I was thinking that maybe he was from Haarlem.

Just hoping Ralph is still alive by then.....

He's from Rotterdam. If he were from Amsterdam he could be given the Tony Tarasco roster spot.

He'd also become the first Met with a pitchfork for a jersey number.

If everybody who advocated retiring this number and that had their way, we might be reduced to that.

- Son, what number is Lastings Milledge on your scorecard?

- He's 44, Dad.

- What number is Marinus Vernooij?

- Trident, same as always?

- Kevin Mulvey?

- Jesus, Dad, the atomic symbol for argon! How long have you been watching this team.

- Get in the car.

- But Dad!

- Don't But Dad! me!
