Keith Hernandez finished third among firstbasemen on the Rawlings All-Time Gold Glove Team.

Third.

Behind Don Mattingly.

Misinformation as marketing --- why I wear Mizuno.

Gary Cohen was pissed about this, saying that this was Keith's HOF and that it would have been better in his opinion if those same people who voted for the HOF voted for this and not the fans who he all but called idiots.

Still surprising that Keith finished third.

King Kauffman in Salon had a good story on this:

Alomar over Morgan please.

Can't say I have any clue as to how Wes Parker looked around the bag.

I saw plenty of Don Mattingly, though. He had as much range as Hernandez --- he was better down the line, Hernandez better in the hole. Hernandez's work on the bunts, though, brought a whole new dimension to the position and the game. Even Phil Rizzutto knew it.

I watched a lot of ball then, did very littly homework, and thought that a lot of Mattingly's contemporaries were good --- Mattingly protecting the line, Hrbek making the pick off the turf, Buckner making the cutoff, Driessen the best athlete. If any of them had any pride in his game, he watched Hernandez. He was the whole package and then some.

That one doesn't particularly bother me.

Well, he was to pitching as Hernandez was to first, except perhaas moreso, completely eradicating the bunt from the opposition arsenal.

If I'm going to object to second, it's going to be in favor of Bill Mazeroski, who was as far ahead of the field on the doubleplay* as Hernadez was in charging the bunt.

Fitting that the all-Gold Glove team is as much a joke as the award itself.

The problem with this "award" is that it's nothing more than a popularity contest on account of it being a write-in vote yet, because it's sponsored by Rawlings, it'll carry the reputation of being some kind of official proclamation.

Yeah seriously will the likes of Maddux always win even if they don't deserve it,Vizquel the same way,Gary Cohen a few times this season mentioned that Reys will win a Gold Glove someday just not when Vizquel is in the league.
