Um... aren't you missing somebody?

I did a double take when the Australian Atlanta pitcher said "FOX."

Edgy DC
Sep 01 2007 02:36 PM

Nine up, nine down for Mike Pelfrey.

Maybe hopefully maybe turning a corner.

Nymr83
Sep 01 2007 02:39 PM

who is on the mound and where did mike pelfrey go?

Edgy DC
Sep 01 2007 02:41 PM

10

Edgy DC
Sep 01 2007 02:42 PM

11.

Three strikeouts in a row.

Edgy DC
Sep 01 2007 02:45 PM

A walk to Chipper Jones breaks the string and Texiera singles him to third.

Oh, butt.

Nymr83
Sep 01 2007 02:45 PM

Chipper walks to end the perfect game in the 4th. Texiera ends the no-hitter. The most important thing (the shutout) is still alive but in serious danger

But he gets McKann.

Agreed--great job by Girardi. If Buck was there, he'd be hogging the mike. Stockton is giving Girardi room.

Looks like Mr. Pelfrey is looking to make a statement. And more power to him!

Those kabooms are just awesome.

I would agree. Stockton and Girardi (on the Fox broadcat) are ignoring it. Worst example I think was the walk to L. Jones in the 4th.

Also worth noting that the second base umpire was out of position and blew the call on LoDuca at 2nd base.

If the Braves didnt swing at those nastynastynastynasty curveballs I dont think they get called strikes.

Wright's fielding is MUCH improved from early in the year and in virtually all aspects: charging bunts, starting DPs, smothering hots shots, throwing on the run, etc. Still gets a little wild if he has too much time on his hand but that's a minor nit picked.

As for the rest of the game -- other than the fact that we're running into too many outs (again) things are going along very smoothly I'd say. We even survived a Mota inning.

bmfc1
Sep 01 2007 03:51 PM

Reyes and Wright could both win GGs but since that award is in large part given because of reputation, I think that they might be too young.

I suspect that was Castillo's which Rickey then temporarily inherits upon Luis reaching first.

Franco PHs and actually pulls a ball !!

Now Diaz PHs and strikes out which also means Atlanta has a worse LFer for the 9th inning.

Killer inning for Feliciano -- I'll take it.

After the tragedy in the minors, I wonder if base coaches will start wearing helmets.

See where Encarnacion of the Reds got smoked in the face while in the on-deck circle Friday night?
Had a helmet on obviously but it didn't help in this case.
I'm almost surprised that doesn't happen more often.
And then when you figure that in a lot of these new stadiums that there are fans not a whole lot further away than that ...

i doubt it. as far as i know that the only base coach to ever die, how many others have been seriously injured? figure between the NL, AL, all the minors, and the independent leagues there are over 25,000 professional baseball games in the united states every year, and one guy has died. you aren't that safe riding your bike and most adult riders don't wear a helmet either.

Gwreck

Wow.

One of the best victories this season. Just great.

bmfc1
Sep 01 2007 04:26 PM

PUT IT IN THE BOOKS! Get job (the pick-offs notwithstanding). Lots of Schaefer to go around but "big ups" to Pelfrey. FOX gave Beltran the POG but we know that it was Pelfrey.

Frayed Knot
Sep 01 2007 04:28 PM

An additional perk to thumping the Braves - hopefully 3 times after tomorrow - is that we can put ourselves in the position to root FOR them when they play the Phils next week.

bmfc1
Sep 01 2007 04:28 PM

Did you see that Feliciano didn't realize that the game was over? He ran off the mound to the dugout. He admitted it on FAN.

Willets Point
Sep 01 2007 04:29 PM

I will NEVER root FOR the Braves. If the Mets do their job and just keep winning more than they lose, I don't care what the other NL East teams do to each other. What the Mets do or don't do is all that matters.

I guess he doesn't get to finish too many games.

First series win vs. Atlanta this season.

Valadius
Sep 01 2007 04:31 PM

I wish we'd see more of Feliciano and less of freaking Schoeneweis.

All in all, a great win, from what I could follow. I hate my damn internet connection.

Gwreck
Sep 01 2007 04:38 PM

Scott Schoeneweis in August:
13G; 10.2 IP; 3.38 ERA; 13 H, 1 BB, 6 K.

The outing against the Phillies on 8/27 was bad, no doubt. He was good-to-very good the rest of the month otherwise.

He held em to 1 freakin hit--and its the Braves in the stretch.

We watched the Tigers* today instead, but caught the end on the radio on the way home. Gotta admire how Pelfrey was able to lower expectations so thoroughly that such a performance like today's seemed unimaginable.

I mean, even Geeked Out Prospect Ballwashers of the Information Superhighway were convinced Pelfrey was a mistake today. They wanted Humber. I wanted Humber. You wanted Humber.

]Francoeur was hit, no question. But he never had been hit previously by Pelfrey, and he later confessed he had feined anger to motivate his teammates.
