It's funny to read the post from George Foster's point of view.

The current Mets pen should stay penned. It's time to call in replacements. Howard

I don't fear the pen.

As opposed to their not firing in April - August thus far.

Well, April-May (the epoch of Reyes) were mostly fine. Wright didn't have his power stroke, but Alou was healthy.

why... are you using it as a crutch? anyway, to blame the pen when you've scored all of 2 runs over 10 innings, and left baserunners stranded in scoring position all game long, is to have missed the point, i think. The team's ERA is around 4, which is among the better ERAs in the NL. And they gave up 4 runs last night. It was the offense's job to score 5. And they didn't have to face Koufax to do it. Wright is the only guy hitting consistently. we can't win that way.

Anyone else get the fear that CB Bucknor's high strike zone the other night would instantly begin a slump for Wright? At some level I think maybe he knew that too, which is why he argued so hard.

We'll see soon enough, I guess. No, I didn't look at it like that. Wright went down looking late last night on a low inside fastball. Sucked to see him crossed up like that.* If he starts to go down flailing a high pitches, we know who to blame.
