Back to the egg for Trax.

Can they sneak Chad Bradford through waivers back to Flushing?

Good for Trax and a good move by the Cubs.

Why, so we can have two mediocre middlemen locked up through 2009?

No, so we can have someone to pitch effectively to righthanders. I know his contract, but I don't think one can look at his his numbers and Schoeneweis's this season (or for their careers) and make them fit the same definition of mediocre.

I can make them fit any definition I want, because I'm just some random schlub on the internet.

If Bradford's dealt in the first year of a multi-year deal, he has the right to demand a trade in the off-season. Not that he necessarily would, but I wouldn't give up anything of substance for him.

He was the biggest player loss from the 2006 team to the 2007 team, IMO.

I agree with that. I thought it was a lock that we'd keep him, and not keeping him screwed up our bullpen - he and Darren Oliver are sorely missed.

Can you see Trachsel the Cub pitching a shutout against the Mets in the playoffs this year?

Let's not go crazy pining for the '06 version of Bradford when not only is the '07 version not nearly as good [3.67 ERA v 2.90 and 1.46 WHiP v 1.16] but to get that '07 version we would have had to lock ourselves into the '08 & '09 versions as well.

I didn't think not going for a contract like that was unreasonable. The problem was not opting out, it was giving it to Schoeneweis instead.

Now, describing Darren Oliver as "sorely missed" --- that's a little much.

I was tempted to say him as well.

Did Trachsel report to the Cubs in time for him to be eligible for the postseason roster?

I remember years ago when the Orioles (or Angels) got Fred Lynn on August 31 and he had to catch a quick flight to be with his new team before midnight. That was many years ago, obviously. Is that rule still in effect?

I believe Traxxy is eligible. He lost his first start for the Cubs but pitched fine.
