Apparently he was drafted as the compensitory pick for Pedro Martinez!

Jeez, be happy for the guy. And let's not pretend to feel pain over what did or didn't happen with the team before we paid attention.

Good for him. And maybe this will get the Sox back on track so they can nail down the division (the whole "enemy of my enemy" thing, you know). Of course it would also be nice if the Mariners could get back into the wild card hunt; the Mets have actually had a great week compared to them.

Which will be mis-interpreted by Met fans to mean that he would be a Met if not for the Pedro signing even though it was not a Met pick but rather a supplemental pick. The frequency that this mistake gets repeated will vary with the future success of Buchholz's career.

I've never heard of that sort of situation happening before. I think you're waaay too cynical here.

People are still whining about picking over Reggie Jackson in 1966, and claiming on thin evidence that they made the choice because of racial hangups.

Just to be the devil's advocate, in a situation where the Mets had a better pick than the Red Sox could they actually have picked this Buchholz. I'm not arguing the argument you say people will argue, I'm just saying it could happen.

Sure, but that can happen any time a guy from a later round is better than a guy your team selected in a prior round. And none of us had more than a rumour's worth of clue about any of them.

Tim Lincecum might have something to say about that, and Joba and Ian Kennedy are starting to make waves in the Bronx as well.

And I'm sure a tidal wave by next spring. I hope my real points aren't lost.
