The single "Radio Nowhere" is a free iTunes download for a limited time (not sure how limited).

Tell me the 80s pop gem you thought of when you heard the first notes. There is one correct answer.

Available for one week.

Either: "Jenny" (8675309) or...

It's not a heavy lyrical work like many Bruce songs, but it's the type of song that's going to be a great concert fave. I could see him opening up shows with it to get the crowd up and going.

If you don't want to do it through iTunes, you can also get it at www.radionowheredownload.com.

Waiting to hear the rest of the album but the track is pretty good (unless perhaps your expetation is for another "Jungleland.") The similarity to 867-5309 is maybe a coupla seconds long at best and is overblown, IMO.

Tix for the shows this fall go on sale over the next coupla weeks -- some unfortunate conflicts between shows and Playoff games.

Tommy Tutone cannot be underblown.

It makes sense to give it away for free. Anti-radio songs are hard to sell.

It makes sense to give it away for free because it's just going to be downloaded illegally anyway.

The "Jenny" thing might be overblown, but it's practically sampled. Whatever. It's a'ight.

There's a note missing from each chord change.

(fuddyduddy)It feels a little too mixed, from the point of view of loving all those classick E-Street albums done live in the studio. It's one thing hearing him double-tracked on Human Touch, but another to hear him double-tracked (that is him, right?) on an E-Streeter recording.(/fuddyduddy)

I read somewhere (Wikipedia? An early review?) that they didn't record any of this album live, that it's all tracked at various times by the various band members.

So it's more than a feeling.

No, that's Boston.

The "live in the studio" E Street albums in reality only are The River, Born in the USA and some of Darkness on the Edge of Town.

This new album Magic, was recorded the same way as the last E Street album (The Rising) -- the basic track was recorded live in the studio by Springsteen, Roy Bittan (keyboards), Garry Tallent (bass) and Max Weinberg (drums). Additional touches were added later by Van Zandt, Lofgren, Federici, Clemons, et al.

Notably, this is essentially the same method that was used to record the Born to Run album.

Springsteen's vocals are double tracked in a few places but I also hear Van Zandt in the mix as well.

Of course, as with most of Springsteen's music, and the E Street albums in particular, the peak experience for 90-95% of the material is going to be the concert setting.

Well, choo know, it's the record we're discussing.

It doesn't sound like "Jenny" to me. I like the song. It has a nice layered effect of guitars, drums, and horns. Almost a "wall of sound."

For what it's worth, the entire album is pretty easily accessible through the magic of the internet.*

Taking several grains of sand on account of whatever pro-Springsteen bias I have, it's still an excellent album.
