It would be really cool if that last Pelfrey start wasn't a fluke.

Right Mike?

Just saying is all.

Edgy DC

We're in heavy Johnny-on-the-Pony area here with Krazy Keith.

Edgy DC
Sep 07 2007 05:42 PM

Wow. How 'bout that?!

Reyes is touched by the gods.

Edgy DC
Sep 07 2007 05:53 PM

Holy shit. Tom Seaver in the booth. I didn't even comb my hair.

How many crazy throws has Beltran made recently?

TransMonk
Sep 07 2007 06:23 PM

Conine now 3 for 18 as a Met.

Rally Killer.

Edgy DC
Sep 07 2007 06:44 PM

How about that big inning, though?

TransMonk
Sep 07 2007 06:47 PM

Gary and Keith are going back and forth with names of beers and where they're from.

Classic.

TransMonk
Sep 07 2007 06:50 PM

Nice catch, Pence...robs David of a double.

Beltran goes deep...4-2 good guys.

Johnny Dickshot
Sep 07 2007 06:52 PM

Really wailing on Wandy here. If Reyes doesn't jam up last inning, we'd have 8 or 9 by now.

TransMonk
Sep 07 2007 06:56 PM

Conine RBI basehit. Good job, new guy...even after I dissed you.

What good is an IGT if these things are not explained?

Guess I have to open more windows and do some detective work.

Omar invokes the name of Ben Baumer!

Reyes just looks awful tonight.

Outstanding catch.

TransMonk
Sep 07 2007 07:18 PM

Good catch by Milledge.

When did Gomez get back to the big team? Is he active? Just saw him sitting on the bench next to Perez.

Johnny Dickshot
Sep 07 2007 07:21 PM

Gotta like that job by Sosa.

metirish
Sep 07 2007 07:21 PM

Fucking Omar half screaming in the booth when Sosa got the out.

Reyes says, "How awful did I look on that triple?"

Castillo brings him home with a single.

Johnny Dickshot
Sep 07 2007 07:26 PM

Omar's a rotten speaker but I was standing and cheering hearing him talk about how the Mets have managed to make better decisions than the other guys when it comes to player evaluations. I mean, it sounds obvious -- good scouting combined with statistical analysis -- but it's something I think the org tried doing without for many years.

I mean, Phillips/Duke also reached for marginal guys and bouncebackers and bargains but they weren't successful.

Sep 07 2007 07:37 PM

Mets on the verge of really busting this game open right here.

seawolf17
Sep 07 2007 07:38 PM

And WHAM they do just that.

Rockin' Doc
Sep 07 2007 07:38 PM

A hit would have been nice, but I'll take the sac fly from LoDuca for another run.

Rockin' Doc
Sep 07 2007 07:40 PM

Milledge with the big hit!!

TransMonk
Sep 07 2007 07:40 PM

Sacfly Duca, 3 run homer for Lastings.

This game went from bad to worse to impossible for Houston pretty quickly.

TransMonk
Sep 07 2007 07:41 PM

Sosa batting himself...I love it.

seawolf17
Sep 07 2007 07:42 PM

Only the second Mets RP to pick up a plate appearance this year, IIRC from the other night's broadcast.

Johnny Dickshot
Sep 07 2007 07:44 PM

Poor Cecil Cooper. This is the kinda game that can ruin an audition.

TransMonk
Sep 07 2007 07:46 PM

According to baseball-reference, Aaron Sele has had 4 at bats this year...Joe Smith has had 1.

Rockin' Doc
Sep 07 2007 07:53 PM

Meanwhile, in the City of Brotherly Love, the Marlins are leading the Phillies 6-3 through 8 innings.

Rockin' Doc
Sep 07 2007 07:56 PM

Cooper raises the white flag and sends in defensive replacements for Biggio, Berkman, Lee, and Loretta. Might as well rest his stars so they're fresh for the stretch run...oh, right. Okay, Willie you might want to consider relieving one or two of the regulars.

Willie counters with Gomez for Beltran, Chavez for Alou, Gotay for Wright and DiFelice for LoDuca. I wouldn't mind seeing him get either Reyes or Castillo out of there while he's at it.

Edited to include Gotay in for Wright, which JD pointed out.

seawolf17
Sep 07 2007 08:02 PM

Then the broadcast team (or the Mets' media notes) missed that Joe Smith AB the other night.

Johnny Dickshot
Sep 07 2007 08:04 PM

The Goat is in for Wright. I thought CarGo was hurt or something.

With the bases loaded, Wandy bounced a potential double play ball up the middle. Reyes booted it, but it went right to Castillo who turned the double play.

It was bounced softly enough that it was no guarantee that they'd turn it, and they might have turned it faster on the boot than otherwise.

The game's other highlight, with the Mets up 5-2, was Milledge catching a shallow liner off of Biggio's bat, and rather than coming up cool, pulled it out of his glove shaking it to show everybody --- "Did you see that?! Did you see what I did?!"

Gold.

What's Alomar got to do to get into one of these game thingies?

Rockin' Doc

Edgy - "What's Alomar got to do to get into one of these game thingies?"

Go Tanya Harding on DiFelice?

Rockin' Doc
Sep 07 2007 08:19 PM

The Marlins aid the Mets cause by dispatching "the team to beat" by a final of 6-3.

Edgy DC
Sep 07 2007 08:19 PM

Bitches always told me I only got into the game because my dad was the coach. Alomar proves that guarantees nothing.

HAhaHAHA

I got sidetracked (this happens when I open other windows :(,....and it frightens me) and last I saw it was 5-2.

Great description of what you described Edgy, thank you.

Baseball 2night, here I come.
I gotta see those things :)

And that'd be a typo (COLAZZO) on the back of Willie Collazo's jersey. Someone fire Charlie Samuels.

Johnny Dickshot
Sep 07 2007 08:23 PM

My first look at Willie Collazo (pronounced Coy-Yazzo by Gary). Little bit of Feliciano in him.

Oh, and make him the closer.

Great catch! $$ for a screen cap.

Rockin' Doc
Sep 07 2007 08:27 PM

Collazo doesn't mind pitching in a non-save situation and closes it out for the Mets win.

Gil Hodges was honored tonight in a pregame ceremony as he was inducted into the US Marines Sports Hall of Fame. Gil's widow Joan was present, along with several Mets (Seaver, Harrelson, Swoboda, Kranepool, Ed Charles). Nice pregame ceremony. Seaver (who is also in the US Marines Sports Hall of Fame) spoke about Hodges, calling him the "most influential person" on his baseball career.

--
Gomez was called up today. He had been playing in NOLA the last couple of days.
--
Reyes was *really* excited to have that triple. Looked like he knew it had been quite a while since his last big hit.

--
Endy made a spectacular running catch in the top of the 7th. Beltran (who had also run towards the ball) was surprised that Endy had gotten there, gave him a nice pat on the back afterwards.

--
I'd been to a lot of games this year but this was the first real ass-whoopin I've seen all year.
