Aw, come on.

They're playing the Nationals and Marlins.

They're going to go 6-1 over this week and we'll be in a position to clinch by Tuesday of next week...maybe Wednesday.

They just suck against the Phillies. Take a couple of deep breaths and settle in for a nice Mets win tonight.

They have played like a team on the verge of a historic collapse intermittently all year. Then they play like a team on the verge of a remarkable hot streak. We're either due for the latter or the historical collapse. Though the latter would be quite the unhappy event, I can't say the downs part of the ups and downs of 2007 hasn't steeled me for it.

How could you put that in print!?
Do you write for the Post?

Let us not even entertain such things until we are forced to.
Of course, the next few games will dictate this.
But please don't go to the dark side before the good guys give up something they have held all season.
First place.

The time to turn this thnking around is NOW vs. these flighty Nats.
Probably isn't logical, but the Marlins worry me more.

Whether my thoughts are sunny or dark won't impact the way the Mets play.

I'm not predicting a collapse. I'm simply fearing one.

Yikes. Hey, who needs speed...

Eagles will be playing tonight, and the neighborhood is already starting to vibrate.

Maybe that vibration was that double to left by Lo Duca.

He's playing again. Im not complaining, I like him in there.
But I am surprised.

Frayed Knot
Sep 17 2007 05:37 PM

Already two mistakes on the bases -- we've just been lucky so far.
1) Reyes was picked off in the 1st (by a lot!) if the throw didn't go wide
2) LoDuca getting caught off 2nd base in the 2nd, a play which turned out not to matter because the Nats screwed up the run-down.

Phils get a bad break in St. Loo, as Utley doubles with Rollins on the move from 1st before the pitch.

But the ball bounced over the wall and its a grounds rule double, and Rollins, who was crossing the plate, is sent back to third.
The Phils phail to plate that run as the Cardinals get Burrell to pop out for the 3rd out of the inning.

Back from RFK. I'm not ashamed to admit that I left after the 7th. With my son not wanting to be out too late on a school night (what's wrong with that boy?), I took my neighbor Bryan who is always fixing things for me. He's not much of a baseball fan so I had to make small talk about other things than baseball. This was fine while 4-0 good guys but as the game went on, he couldn't believe how morose I got so I talked to the drunken, angry, Mets fan in front of me who compared this team to the '62 Mets ("Willie couldn't manage his way out of a wet paper bag").

Pre-game, I was behind the dugout and talked with a Mets fan visiting from Alaska. He said that he tapes the Mets on EI because the games start while he's at work.

During the game, the highlight was meeting Edgy and Mrs. Edgy. He came by and we talked like we knew each other, because we have so much in common, even though we've never met before. That was really nice.

Boy did that game stink.

Zvon
Sep 17 2007 09:11 PM

OMG!
They walk Pujols-
Cards batter Ludwig hits one into the gap in right center, a booming shot,...and Rowand....I can't call it a great catch....I dont know what to call it,lol.

I don't know if he lost it or thought he was called off or what, but he made the play into a stumbling slapstick grab.

But he does make the catch and it stays 12-11 Phils.

Look for that play on baseball highlights near you.
Insane...if that ball would have dropped....

AND THEN ROWAND LEADS OFF THE 9TH WITH HIS SECOND BOOMER OF THE GAME!

I'm not saying what So-so did was right, necessarily: I'm saying that if he did it right, Castillo was out of position. Regardless, this is stuff they practice over and over in spring training, or were have supposed to, so when a ball comes at you in that situation doing the right thing is 2nd nature.

It just isn't with the Mets, as so many balls back to the pitcher this season have illustrated.

And SNY had a great freeze frame of Mike Difelice screaming at Sosa to throw home right from the get go,why did Willie double switch him into the game anyway?

He thought he could get 2 IP out of him.

LoDuca apparently was pissed off at being the switchee. There's a new one.

Well, Castillo was with Minnesota during spring training if he's the one who blew it there. Infield awareness is on Sandy Alomar.

Anyhow, that's where my heart died. And the man typing this isn't a man at all but walking corpse. I've only come in today to feast on the brains of my co-workers. BRAINS!

I think what happened is that everyone in the park heard DiFelice screaming for home except Sosa - so the middle IFers assumed he was going home and weren't expecting a throw. It was Sosa not seeing either Reyes or Castillo on the base w/glove out that caused him to belatedly turn around and go home.

Castillo was still close enough to receive a throw had Sosa made one, it's just that he wasn't looking like he was expecting one and that spooked Sosa.

Not that I'm proud of this, but I think I was the first one here to say the collapse word and it was at the beginning of this thread.
