I'm filled with dread.
bmfc1 Sep 17 2007 02:49 PM |
I'm on my way to RFK. Note that Dimitri Young is out of the lineup for Washington. I hope that the Mets can generate enough offense to compensate for the expected 4 runs over 5 innings from Lawrence.
Gwreck Sep 17 2007 02:58 PM |
Aw, come on. They're playing the Nationals and Marlins. They're going to go 6-1 over this week and we'll be in a position to clinch by Tuesday of next week...maybe Wednesday.
Benjamin Grimm Sep 17 2007 03:00 PM |
They're playing like a team on the verge of a historic collapse.
Willets Point Sep 17 2007 03:06 PM |
They just suck against the Phillies. Take a couple of deep breaths and settle in for a nice Mets win tonight.
G-Fafif Sep 17 2007 03:29 PM |

They have played like a team on the verge of a historic collapse intermittently all year. Then they play like a team on the verge of a remarkable hot streak. We're either due for the latter or the historical collapse. Though the latter would be quite the unhappy event, I can't say the downs part of the ups and downs of 2007 hasn't steeled me for it.

I'm assuming that the Meat Tree is just tired out from his battle alongside Bill Pecota against Scott Boras' contract killers. http://dugout.progressiveboink.com/

With bmfc1 and Edgy in attendance we're sure to win.

How could you put that in print!? Do you write for the Post? Let us not even entertain such things until we are forced to. Of course, the next few games will dictate this. But please don't go to the dark side before the good guys give up something they have held all season. First place. The time to turn this thnking around is NOW vs. these flighty Nats. Probably isn't logical, but the Marlins worry me more.
Benjamin Grimm Sep 17 2007 04:50 PM |
Whether my thoughts are sunny or dark won't impact the way the Mets play.
Valadius Sep 17 2007 05:01 PM |
SHIT, I forgot we were playing the Nats this week. Think they'll still sell tickets after the game's started?
Kid Carsey Sep 17 2007 05:04 PM |
Teams with nothing to lose are always dangerous.

Zvon Sep 17 2007 05:04 PM |

I share your fears, sad to say. And historical won't be the right word. There has to be a larger more encompassing word. Sorry If it appeared I jumped on you. I'm just a lil on edge, as we all probably are.
Valadius Sep 17 2007 05:07 PM |
I'll just go tomorrow. At least I can finally watch the Mets on TV.
Zvon Sep 17 2007 05:08 PM |
Bring it ya naughty Nats.
Valadius Sep 17 2007 05:08 PM |

He's topping out at 83 mph. Nats announcers - "you can put away the radar gun."
Gwreck Sep 17 2007 05:29 PM |
He got Zimmerman on a cutter on the outside corner, which looked pretty good.

Yikes. Hey, who needs speed... Eagles will be playing tonight, and the neighborhood is already starting to vibrate. Maybe that vibration was that double to left by Lo Duca. He's playing again. Im not complaining, I like him in there. But I am surprised.
Frayed Knot Sep 17 2007 05:37 PM |
Already two mistakes on the bases -- we've just been lucky so far.

Valadius Sep 17 2007 06:06 PM |

Valadius Sep 17 2007 06:07 PM |

Valadius Sep 17 2007 06:09 PM |

DING! We have a winner. Nats have taken a 5-4 lead on our long man, and they might do worse damage. A Kearns double puts runners at 2nd and 3rd. 2 out.

...AND Aaron Rowand smacks a 2 run bomb that would have been gone in any ballpark. Phils have a 3-0 lead in the 4th.
metirish Sep 17 2007 07:06 PM |
How many ways can we lose this game...holy fuck..
Valadius Sep 17 2007 07:07 PM |
WHERE IS OUR DEFENSE?!?!?!?!?!?
Zvon Sep 17 2007 07:08 PM |
As Wright and Schoeneweis make errors, Rollins smacks one out.
Johnny Dickshot Sep 17 2007 07:09 PM |
This team makes me want to puke.
Zvon Sep 17 2007 07:11 PM |
Maybe the boys are literally watching the scoreboard while on the field.
metsguyinmichigan Sep 17 2007 07:13 PM |
How are we losing like this to a triple-A team? At least after the last sweep we went on a tear.

I hate this fucking team. Even if they somehow back into October, I have no faith in them doing shit.
Zvon Sep 17 2007 07:32 PM |
Back into? lol. Thats a bit bassackwards at this point. Milledge singles to lead off the 7th. The Goat will pinch hit for DiFelice. We have 4 catchers now, right?
Gwreck Sep 17 2007 07:38 PM |
Hey, Mets, want to win? Howsabout a 2-out rally here with the middle of the order coming up? Hmm, guess not.
Zvon Sep 17 2007 07:53 PM |
Howard just launched a granny.
metsguyinmichigan Sep 17 2007 08:01 PM |
You have to figure that thowing Lawrence out there was a virtual forfiet anyway. Maybe this beatdown is an even bigger wake-up call than the Phillies sweep.
Zvon Sep 17 2007 08:03 PM |
I hope so mgim. Lastings Ks with 2 on to end the Mets 7th. Wonder if Edgy left the game yet.... Cards have scored 3 in the 6th, 11-3 there.
Zvon Sep 17 2007 08:08 PM |
Joe Smith is handed the ball.
Mendoza Line Sep 17 2007 08:11 PM |
You watched this game and you still have an appetite?
Rockin' Doc Sep 17 2007 08:12 PM |
The errors and sloppy play just keep coming. Six errors yesterday were enough guys, no need to see if you can top that tonight.
metsguyinmichigan Sep 17 2007 08:16 PM |
We have to repeat to ourselves "They Mets do nothing easily."
Zvon Sep 17 2007 08:16 PM |
Mets get out of an inning in which they make 2 errors without allowing more runs.
Zvon Sep 17 2007 08:19 PM |
lmao. Reading the game just aint the same. But watching the Phils game was making me a lil sick. Ill be watching Eagles football from this point on. mmmm, those lil burger brickettes were good.
Johnny Dickshot Sep 17 2007 08:19 PM |
This team are what they is.
Rockin' Doc Sep 17 2007 08:23 PM |
The Mets collapse by a score of 12-4.
Zvon Sep 17 2007 08:25 PM |
Castillio grounds out to end it.
metirish Sep 17 2007 08:28 PM |
I think the worst thing I can say as a Mets fan is that while watching the game I was the least bit surprised at what unfolded, truely terrible to watch.
Zvon Sep 17 2007 08:33 PM |
Pujols just wacked a bases loaded double and the Cards are creeping up on the Phils, 12-9 in the 7th.

Zvon Sep 17 2007 08:47 PM |

Its 12-11 in St Louis.
bmfc1 Sep 17 2007 09:07 PM |
Back from RFK. I'm not ashamed to admit that I left after the 7th. With my son not wanting to be out too late on a school night (what's wrong with that boy?), I took my neighbor Bryan who is always fixing things for me. He's not much of a baseball fan so I had to make small talk about other things than baseball. This was fine while 4-0 good guys but as the game went on, he couldn't believe how morose I got so I talked to the drunken, angry, Mets fan in front of me who compared this team to the '62 Mets ("Willie couldn't manage his way out of a wet paper bag").
Zvon Sep 17 2007 09:11 PM |
OMG!
metirish Sep 17 2007 09:14 PM |

Nothing wrong with that boy, sucks that you got to see a stinker but cool that you got to meet Edgy and missus.
Johnny Dickshot Sep 17 2007 09:15 PM |
I think they should send Reyes to Alaska and use that guy at short.
Zvon Sep 17 2007 09:28 PM |
Last of the 9th for the Cardinals.
Zvon Sep 17 2007 09:32 PM |

Edgy DC Sep 17 2007 09:52 PM |
I'm in the same seats tomorrow night with my friend Paul the Pirate fan. I expect my puddle of tears will not have dried up.
Johnny Dickshot Sep 17 2007 10:08 PM |
Not the first time a Met pitcher on a comebacker has looked to second only to wonder wtf Castillo is.
Edgy DC Sep 17 2007 10:18 PM |
Really? Man on third is breaking on contact and a dead duck. He's the threat there. Get the guy on third for the second out and be cahnfident you can get out of a two-out, first-and-second situation. You're a playoff pitcher.
Valadius Sep 17 2007 11:24 PM |
Hey Edgy, I think I'll be at the game tomorrow.
metirish Sep 18 2007 06:54 AM |
I wondered the same thing when I saw the replay but I'm thinking that Castillo assumed that Sosa would go home with that throw, still should have been at the bag I suppose.
Johnny Dickshot Sep 18 2007 06:59 AM |
I'm not saying what So-so did was right, necessarily: I'm saying that if he did it right, Castillo was out of position. Regardless, this is stuff they practice over and over in spring training, or were have supposed to, so when a ball comes at you in that situation doing the right thing is 2nd nature.
metirish Sep 18 2007 07:08 AM |
And SNY had a great freeze frame of Mike Difelice screaming at Sosa to throw home right from the get go,why did Willie double switch him into the game anyway?
Johnny Dickshot Sep 18 2007 07:11 AM |
He thought he could get 2 IP out of him.
Edgy DC Sep 18 2007 07:16 AM |
Well, Castillo was with Minnesota during spring training if he's the one who blew it there. Infield awareness is on Sandy Alomar.
Frayed Knot Sep 18 2007 07:19 AM |
I think what happened is that everyone in the park heard DiFelice screaming for home except Sosa - so the middle IFers assumed he was going home and weren't expecting a throw. It was Sosa not seeing either Reyes or Castillo on the base w/glove out that caused him to belatedly turn around and go home.
Benjamin Grimm Sep 27 2007 05:49 AM |
Not that I'm proud of this, but I think I was the first one here to say the collapse word and it was at the beginning of this thread.
