I heard Willie started his subs in the coinflip.

Yankees won both of theirs. Steinbrenner paid through the nose for the top coinflipper.

Cardinals not being included in the wildcard flipping and the Braves being left out completely seems weird.

They'd only play that game, though, if the wild card team had a better record.

this is sort of easy to file under dumb things that MLB hasn't fixed just because it hasn't come up on the "things to fix" list. Coin filps? After 162 games, that's the best you can come up with?

I'm OK with a crazy game for all the marbles, just use such tiebreakers to determine home field advantage.

They did this already?

Well, they have to book the stadium, hotels, flights, tee times, hookers, etc.

when i said "break the tie" i meant "determine homefield" i realize that was unclear. what they really need is better rules for 3-way ties, because right now theres a team that has to only win one game while the other two teams would have to win 2.

In deference to the crazy New Yorkers who tune into Keith Hernandez, tiebreakers should be determined by a few rounds of Johnny on the Pony.

How about a Home Run Derby to decide the winner? Each player on the roster, including pitchers, gets one swing. Most home runs wins. How great would it be for a fluke home run by Guillermo Mota to decide a playoff spot?
