I'm helping a friend compile a list of good songs originally presented in cartoons or animated features, but NOT including Disney stuff. She's putting together a cabaret piece, a "cartoon cabaret" as it were, so they should be songs appropriate for a one female performer to sing. Anybody have any suggestions? For some reason, "My World is Beginning Today" has been cut in recent years from Santa Claus is Coming to Town. You can take quite a bit from Yellow Submarine or Heavy Metal, though much of those are borrowed material. "Spider-Man Theme" from Spider-Man "Way-Out" from The Flinstones "Trogdor, the Burniator" from Homestar Runner "Inside Outside Upside Down" from Josie and the Pussycats "Do a Half-Assed Job" from The Simpsons "Sugar Sugar" or "Bang-Shang a-Lang" from the Archies "Laugh Laugh" by the Beau Brummelstones on the Flintstones

One female perfomer... "When Emily Loved Me" from Toy Story II. The same-sex chicks will love it. There's several other female-vocal songs from the Sherry Bobbins episode of The Simpsons. The Lurleen Lumpkin episode has "I'm Basting a Turkey with My Tears" and "Don't Look Up My Dress Unless You Mean It," among others.

I assume that the Pixar films have the Disney taint? Too bad. When it comes to TV cartoon theme songs, some favorites of mine include "Underdog" and "Magilla Gorilla."
