Frayed Knot

Tied at 3 - bottom 6th

Frayed Knot
Sep 18 2007 08:21 PM

Headed for the 7th still tied.

Russ Springer was the (4th) and most recent StL pitcher.

Frayed Knot
Sep 18 2007 08:51 PM

The Cards - working with their 7th pitcher of the game - got the Phils out 1-2-3 in the 8th.

Cards are out-hitting the Phils 8-2 (who but LaRussa could use 7 pitchers to give up only 2 hits) but the score is still tied at 3

Stays tied. 3-3.
Cards coming to bat in the 8th.

I can't believe this season has come to this; I'm forced to be a Cardinals fan.

I think I'm starting to hate baseball.

Sad really that it has come to this, still tied in the 8yh.

On to the 9th

Earlier in the game, first inning as a matter of fact, there was a play- Cards SS Ryan missed a sign,..
No one on, 1 out.
He had 3 balls on him, and he missed the take sign.
He flied out to center.

When he got back in the dugout La Russa approached him.
Now La Russa,....if he's not smiling (and thats rare) he looks mad even on a good day.
He goes up to Ryan and says a few things, none nice, I'm sure.
Ryan is pulling off his batters glove's looking clueless as Tony berates him, though thats a rather harsh word to use to describe it.

I guess what La Russa was saying was something to the effect of "Here's the sign for go hit the showers kid, your outta here."

La Russa pulled him. In the first inning.
Thats one serious manager there.

Its still tied in the 9th.
J-Roll batting for the Phils with 2 out.

Phils don't score in the top.
Looks like Schumaker, Barden & Taguchi to face Flash Gordon in bottom 9

Zvon
Sep 18 2007 09:14 PM

Cards get a Ludwick single with 1 out in the 9th.

Ludwick runs into an out at 2nd on a missed hit and run.

Barden Ks and we go extra's.

That pesky David Eckstein was set to pinch hit, but he dont get to the dish.

Phils are 9-7 in extra inning games, and have won their last 5 extended contests.

Zvon
Sep 18 2007 09:17 PM

Utley drives it to deep rightfield where Ludwick hauls it in as he hits the outfield wall.

Burrell follows with an infield single up the middle, and Bourn will run for him.

Ryan Howard is up.

Zvon
Sep 18 2007 09:24 PM

Passed ball and Bourn takes 2nd, and they walk Howard.

How that ball got through that catchers legs Ill never know.
Oh, thats Kelly Stinnett,lol.
Molina left the game earlier due to a fat ass.
(he hurt his leg, actually, I think).

They walk Rowand and its Dobbs with the bases all red, only one out.

Zvon
Sep 18 2007 09:28 PM

OH!
Grounder to second, he goes home for the force, the throw is in time..

but its a low throw, short hops Stinnett, he can't handle it.
Run scores.

Phils take the lead, and Myers is up in the pen.

Valadius
Sep 18 2007 09:29 PM

Kelly Stinnett, I hate you.

Zvon
Sep 18 2007 09:34 PM

Izzy with a BIG K on Werth.

I really think Stinnett should have had the throw, but the 2nd baseman Miles got the error.

Izzy gets Ruiz to pop out and the Cards have get that run back.

Izzys spot in the lineup will start it off.
And it'll be Eck pinch hitting.

Zvon
Sep 18 2007 09:41 PM

wow.

Eck pops out.
Im thinkin this is over.

Miles, who was batting .500 vs. Myers slaps a chopper over Phils 3rd basemans head.
Then Cairo singles to right and its 1st and 3rd.

AND THE CARDS GET THE SAC FLY AND TIE IT!
That spazio Spiezio gets it done.

Zvon
Sep 18 2007 09:42 PM

Ankiel flies out to end the 10th.

Its tied again.

4-4.

Great baseball here.

Gwreck
Sep 18 2007 09:42 PM

Wow. Spiezio vs. Myers. Could they both somehow get ejected and make it possible for me to root for someone else?

Valadius
Sep 18 2007 09:46 PM

PHEW.

Damn, it's so ironic that we have to root for the fucking Cards now after last year.

Valadius
Sep 18 2007 09:48 PM

Wow, Troy Percival. Coulda sworn he was done.

Zvon
Sep 18 2007 09:53 PM

Rollins singles with one out and now Percival has to face the Phils heart,
although at this point its:
Utley
Bourn
Howard

Rollins steals second.

Zvon
Sep 18 2007 09:56 PM

Gotta hand it to those Cardinals fans.
They are making some noise.

Utley grounds hard to 2nd, easy out, Rollins moves over to third.

They want to get Bourn and not face Howard here.

Zvon
Sep 18 2007 09:59 PM

Bourn's swinging at anything close.

Well, not anything...he avoids the inside pitches. Its a 2-2 count.

And he lifts a shallow fly to center, and it continues.

Zvon
Sep 18 2007 10:04 PM

Myers stays on for the Phils and strikes out the first two Cards in the 11th.

How about that,...a closer that can go 2.

Valadius
Sep 18 2007 10:05 PM

Myers was a longtime starter.

Zvon
Sep 18 2007 10:06 PM

Gets a grounder for out # 3.

I think I,m the only one here, lol, but I'm sticking with this game and Ill continue to post.

At least until I'm no longer Steve Trachsel.

Valadius
Sep 18 2007 10:08 PM

I'm here, for now at least.

Damn, I screamed myself hoarse tonight.

Valadius
Sep 18 2007 10:09 PM

Howard K's.

Yes he was.
I hate to say i may know the Phils team better than the Mets when it comes to things like that and the intangables.

The Mets and have pretty much cut me off from the loop.

I did contact my cable company and I can now get the WB 11.
On channel 87-9, lol.
Course at this point they have like 2 games left to show.
Maybe only one :(.

Howard Ks, and that guy who has been a ball on fire, Aaron Rowand is up.

Is Pujols hurt? Or has LaRussa just forgotten, All-Star-Game-style, that he has him available on the bench?

Pujols was a suprising late scratch and thats the last I heard about that.

Valadius
Sep 18 2007 10:14 PM

And we head to the bottom of the 12th.

Strained left calf muscle for Pujols.

Welcome a-bordick bcm!

Zvon
Sep 18 2007 10:16 PM

Mesa comes on for the Phils in the 12th.
This is where it should get really interesting.

Wonder if he can pinch hit, or did he get an early shower with Ryan.
Inquiring minds gots to know.

Valadius

Mesa has a 6.11 ERA.

Yea, but he gets through this inning nicely.

See, this is why it is time for me to worry about these Phillies.
Ive been watching them all season.
I get like a hundred of their games on TV here.

They just don't have the pitching.
Last night kind of confirmed that.
But a month ago, they do not hold that lead and they blow that game.
And last night they managed to hold on and win.
Yes, these are not the same Phils I've been watching all summer.
Mostly due to the breaks they have been getting, and the fact they seemed to have stepped it up a notch.

They have been hurtin pretty much all season too, like the Mets, and they have worked around it.

Yea, they worry me.
That said, I'd still rather face them than the Padres in a 7 game series.

Valadius
Sep 18 2007 10:33 PM

We're going to the bottom of the 13th.

Zvon
Sep 18 2007 10:34 PM

Rollins fishes for a high pitch and strikes out to end the Phils 13th.

The Cards at this point have a deeper bench, especially if you count Pujols.
Philly has 2 non pitchers left.
Cards have a hand full of players.

Zvon
Sep 18 2007 10:36 PM

Cairo leads off, and Pujols is on deck to pinch it.

Lets get it over with...please.

Valadius
Sep 18 2007 10:37 PM

Cairo... wow.

He sucked.

lol.
He's workin for a livin here tonight.
Made Mesa throw quite a few pitches before grounding out.

Pujols is up.
Will they pitch to him?

Valadius
Sep 18 2007 10:40 PM

Come on Pujols... I'm beggin ya.

Zvon
Sep 18 2007 10:41 PM

Nah, he's not gonna get anything to hit.

They'll pitch around him.

WOOO--Mesa lays one on the corner for a strike.
3-1 count.

Valadius
Sep 18 2007 10:42 PM

Pujols walks. Ankiel up.

Zvon
Sep 18 2007 10:42 PM

They walk him,..and a Cardinal pitcher will run for him.

Pujols is visable moving with a slight limp.

Zvon
Sep 18 2007 10:49 PM

Mesa, again, looking fine.
Unbelievable.

It continues.

Am I still Trachsel?

Valadius
Sep 18 2007 10:53 PM

Oh no. Not Maroth...

Zvon
Sep 18 2007 10:54 PM

I am.

Spock,...

Did I say spock?
I meant Val.

Chase leads off the 14th with a single.

Sep 18 2007 10:55 PM

i'm closing gameday i've had enough of this. someone post here when our lead has officially shrunk to 1.5 games

Zvon
Sep 18 2007 10:59 PM

This game now 4 hours 30 minutes long.

Padre's beat the Pirates and will stay ahead of the Phils in the wild card.

And thats the kicker,...that if there is a historical collapse by our boys, we probably dont get the wild card.
Crazy man.

Phils have Utley on second, Howard up, one out.

Zvon
Sep 18 2007 11:03 PM

WOW-they get Howard to chase a real bad low and outside pitch.

Rowand is 12 for 20 against Maroth, so they will walk Aaron.

Phils will pinch hit their last regular bench player available, Barajas.

He's 1 for 4 lifeteime off Maroth.

Zvon
Sep 18 2007 11:04 PM

He lines a single up the middle and the Phils go up 5-4.
Wacko.

Zvon
Sep 18 2007 11:12 PM

Werth triples to clear the bases off the Cards new pitcher, Jimenez.
7-4 Phillys.

Woe is me.

A guy named Condrey on for the save.
He gave up 4 earned runs last night.

Zvon
Sep 18 2007 11:14 PM

UGH--
Rollins with a fantastic play for the 1st out.

A short hop that took him to his knees.

Then Nunez makes a nice play on a tapper to 3rd, 2 out.

Valadius
Sep 18 2007 11:15 PM

I'd better try to sleep now before the game is over. Otherwise I won't be able to.

Zvon
Sep 18 2007 11:17 PM

A record has been set here: Players used in an extra inning game . 50 plus.
11 of them pitchers.

Ludwick grounds out to third, 1-2-3 and its ovah!

Philadelphia pulls to within a game and a half of our New York Mets.

Oh boy.

I hope Stephen Colbert can still make me laugh during his late run show.
