Was sorta hoping (but not expecting) to see Delgado's name.

Maybe tomorrow.

Willis has been awful this year. Glavine's on a hot streak. Let's hope for an easy tension-free victory.

Said the man whose name adorns the stadium we just left, "All of us might wish at times that we lived in a more tranquil world, but we don't. And if our times are difficult and perplexing, so are they challenging and filled with opportunity."

Easy and tension-free would be fine. Victory is paramount.

Willis got saved for this one. That's pretty annoying.

Castillo a late scratch, the knee. Delgado believes he's maybe a day away.

I said to myself that I'll try to tolerate the Marlins announcers instead of listening to Howie & Tom on the laptop... that didn't last through the intro as the Marlins announcer said "The Marlins entertain the evil empire."

Sep 20 2007 05:18 PM

Alou makes em pay for hittin our boys!

Clears the bases with a double.
Goes to third on the throw (to the plate?).

2-0 Mets

Ryan Howard has hit a 2 run dinger in the Phils 1st.

2-0 Phils

Zvon
Sep 20 2007 05:39 PM

Jacobs is still on our side!
Hits into a DP for us.
I always liked that guy.

The Nats have taken the lead on the Phils, 4-2, in the 2nd.

Zvon
Sep 20 2007 05:49 PM

Reyes with another double.
I saw that one yesterday that got stuck in the wall on BB2nite.
Wacky stuff.

Washington has taken a 6-2 lead in the 3rd.

Mr.Wright doubles in Mr. Reyes.

Zvon

I love Willis.
I don't care if he can't pitch like he used to.
Go get him Omar.
We'll make him an outfielder.

He reaches on a bunt single to lead off the fish's 3rd.

This was too much to ask of Sosa, pitching in clutch situtations in relief two nights in a row. He's not been bred as a reliever. The move in the 10th was whomever was out there, batter by batter. And if they ran out, then shame on Omar because he could have 5 more guys sitting out there. Yes, nobody else left is as good as Sosa but Sosa had a hard inning last night and another one tonight. Sele and Williams aren't that good, of course, but they're not tired and Sosa was.

Mets pen has allowed 20 runs in the last 7 games.

Johnny Dickshot
Sep 21 2007 07:02 AM

If we could replay that 9th inning but not take away the Wright error, we have to look at the Cody's weak-ass bloop and how it was played.

I'm not sure how far Endy had to come to it, I imagine quite a bit, but regardless the ball landed right at his feet. I think ND must have made up his mind to short-hop it and try for a play at third base, rather than to leave his feet to try and make a catch and risk letting the tying run score there. But the proximity of his feet and the ball at the end of the play suggests to me Endy was capable of catching it on the fly. You?

I think letting it fall was a defensible option --- however, his throw was late, and Wright in another display of poor concentration at a critical time, stood there trying to get the umpire to change his call while Cody, who stumbled between 1st and 2nd, pulls into 2nd safely. He was a dead duck there.

So to sum up:

1) ND coulda caught it.
2) Once he didn't, it was on Wright to make a decision and he screwed up.
3) All people named Cody must die.

I was out last night and Blackberry-in' this game on the terrorist train home last night.

What a debacle.

I do not have a word to describe how disasterous this bullpen has become. The team cannot score enough runs, there is absolutely no margin for error.

What happened? They were actually good at one point this season.

I am this close to saying that this season is all but over because I just can't see how this team as presently constituted can survive the last 10 games let alone do anything in the playoffs.

Big time bummer dudes.

Benjamin Grimm
Sep 21 2007 07:17 AM

They have ten games left in which they can right this ship and storm into the playoffs.

I have no faith that it will happen, but it might. So all we can do is stay tuned and hope for the best.

Given the state of the bullpen (and the starting pitching!) even if they do stumble into the playoffs, they'll probably have an early exit.

I really don't understand the quick hook that Feliciano got.

You don't generally bring in a pitcher to face one hitter when you have a three-run lead and there's nobody on base. I figured Feliciano's task was to get three outs. He had a margin of error; that one hit he gave up didn't cause an immediate crisis.

Is that Willie's version of panic? Calm demeanor, but panicky moves?

Here are my Raw Sewage Goat of the Game points for Friday night:

Glavine 3
Wright 2
Sosa 2
Randolph 3

Down by one these days is as good as the game being over.

Hell, up by 5 is no good anymore!

I'm going to disagree. If you're down by one agaisnt a last-place club with Heilman and, presumably, Wagner ready to go, and you take it upon yourself to assault players, you have lost perspective near to the point of institutionalization, and you need to be kept from ballparks.

The game is humbling and intensesly frustrating, with fans 29 of 30 teams going home disappointed, with little or no say over how their teams perform. Mets fans had better learn to deal with that when they're young and stop embarrassing the rest of us by jackassing their way through life.

Yeah, I thought the hook was way too quick especially considering we were Wag-less and up by 3. I suspect Willie doesn't much care for Feliciano.

We know they tangled at least once last year, and this year there was a period during which he completely fell off the radar. Seems like, since then, he's been given very little rope.

Is anyone brave enough to join me in assigning Endy Chavez a Raw Sewage blame point?

I think, being in the no-doubles defense that put that ball on the fringes of Endy's range to begin with, he was in containment mode.

I'll give him half a blame point for that, a little more for letting the runner get to second on his throw, cancelling out the no-doubles advantage entirely.

How about a little blame for going for the game winning double instead of looking to play it off the wall and stop the runner on first from scoring?

Remember that Feliciano and Randoph clashed in early July last year when Pedro questoned Wille's usage of him and Willie hammered down on him in the media with, "I've been around winners my whole life. That's not what winners do."

I'm coining a new nickname: Willie the Winner.

Pure speculation department: I'm afraid he's losing or has lost the team over the last few weeks. Willie may make the game decisions, but Red Ass or somebody may be the de facto manager.

C'mon - I'm not advocating throwing things at players. Just disagreeing with your assessment that down by one these days for the Mets is not 'rough'.

I'm down with that speculation.

As I said the other day if Winner loses the players he's got nobody but Jerry Manuel and maybe Sandy Sr. on his side.

By the way, anyone read Jeff Wilpon's comments? Thinks he's Steinbrenner or something. I'll go start a new thread

Sure, but I'm still pissed at Met fans for losing they shit under fire. You got if tough? I seen the toughest around, say the prophet David Lee.

Some Mets guy in a Springsteen shirt and an ugly second-hand Max Weinberg haircut was hanging out with Farmer Ted and me by the Mets' bullpen, looking for kids to kick. Made me feel real good about the DC handgun ban.

Nothing uglier than a Met fan who can't chill da fuck out. They're not helping their team, and, far worse, they're embarassing me.
