IGT 9/23/07--Mets @ Marlins

From Delcos. Note Gomez in the lineup which means that we'll see if Lastings' outburst hurts the team. I'm surprised that Willie is going with the rookie over the vet, Shawn Green, even though it would mean a lefty-lefty match-up.

METS

SS Jose Reyes
2B Luis Castillo
3B David Wright
CF Carlos Beltran
LF Moises Alou
1B Carlos Delgado
C Paul Lo Duca
RF Carlos Gomez
P John Maine

Maine needs to get his shit together TODAY.

If he does, the Mets should have little trouble winning.

If he doesn't, it's going to be a slugfest, and who knows who'll end up on top.

Phillies today have a lopsided pitching matchup in their favor.

Today's game is pretty darn important. (As they've all been lately.)

bmfc1
Sep 23 2007 10:05 AM

Humber goes Wednesday? Nothing against Humber but that's an interesting time for him to reappear. Pedro pitched on Friday so Wednesday should be his turn. I know that they want to give him an extra day of rest but the team doesn't have that luxury.

Benjamin Grimm
Sep 23 2007 10:18 AM

From Newsday:

]Willie Randolph hinted yesterday that Pedro Martinez could come back on regular rest to start Wednesday.

Unless the Mets open up a four-game lead by Wednesday morning, I think Pedro has to pitch that game.

I agree. Delcos has WR with the Humber news from this morning.

1-1, middle 5th in the WAS-PHI game. Had to bring in 2 relievers to get out of the inning, one walked Howard to load the bases, the second got Rowand to ground out to end it.

After three innings in Miami, it's the Fish leading the Mets by a score of 2-0.

The Mets needs to get their offense going.

Edgy DC
Sep 23 2007 12:52 PM

Overheard in the Marlin booth:

"Roger Clemens has said on record that if he doesn't go in (to the Hall of Fame) as a Yankee, he's not showing up."

"...? Yeah, right."

Zvon
Sep 23 2007 12:57 PM

Not sure Seo.

Nats still leading in the 8th by a run.

I guess this will be Maine's last inning....
If he gets through it.

Hermida with a seeing eye grounder up the middle, that makes him 3 for 3.

Mets have Feliciano and Sosa up in the pen.

The Nationals go to the botom of the ninth with a 5-2 lead over the Phillies. The Phillies have their big guns (Utley - Bourne - Howard - Rowand) due up in the ninth.

Utley opens with a ground rule double. Come on Cordero!

Cordero K's pinch hitter Victorino.

Zvon

3 pitches, 2 outs -- and Schoeneweis will be in to face the lefty Hermida.

Let's make JQ Adams' reign a short one.

Game over.

9 pitchers over 11 innings is way too many to be using, Willie.

You are now free to go about breathing around the country.

Put THAT in the books AND in the Philly clubhouse.

* And right in the middle of another bullpen drama I change from Armando to Jesse!!

Alou in the post game interview:
" We are still in first place. We have to play that way, and we have to act that way."

I LOVE YOU ALOU!

The Mets bullpen did it's best to give this one away, but the offense kept plugging along and prevailed.

Nice job by the ignored bullpen members (Smith and Sele) to come through after Willie's favorites faltered.

The radio gave the Players of the Game to Smith, Sele and Schoeneweis (3 S's).

What twit hears that and goes, "You know, I'm going to grab a few grand and go get me a car, truck, or van from Mulrooney's. They seem like the kind of professional outfit I want to make my big investments with."

I remember that Ray Parker, Jr. lost a plagiarism suit over that song to Huey Lewis.

I didn't think I'd be saying this was a great game, because how can you when some of your players fail you like that?
But ya know what? Thats baseball and this was a great game.

I watched this on TiVo delay and for me, it just ended.

Delgado's homer was the first time I can recall jumping up and down with joy during a regular season game in years.

Now that it's over, I'm not all that concerned about the blown save. Heilman was overworked and Wagner was rusty. (And the guy who hit the homer, Uggla, is no chump.)

Thank you for winning today, Washington. Hope you guys enjoy the postgame RFK ceremonies. No offense, but we now would like you to lose your next three games.

How about sending Smitty up to bunt? He had only thrown 12 pitches.
