This is gonna be a weird one for me to follow, as I can watch the game on MASN, but my TV is also acting as my monitor for my laptop until I get my new laptop. So I'll be switching between the two, most likely.

Play ball!!!

Valadius
Sep 25 2007 05:16 PM

Anybody else noticed the resemblance between Ronnie Belliard and Carmelo Anthony?

Valadius

In out-of-town news, Atlanta's leading the Phillies 3-0 after a 3-run Teixeira homer.

Alright, so let's get a few back. I'm remarkably calm about this week, I must
be going through some kind of fansitional period in my life.

Valadius

JOSE GOES KABOOM!!!!!!

Valadius
Sep 25 2007 05:36 PM

So Reyes leads off with a homer, and the next three hitters all ground out.

Kinda like the Bizarro version of how things have gone lately.

Dunno.

Green having a great at-bat here.

Frayed Knot
Sep 25 2007 05:52 PM

It's not easy beating Green

Valadius

Bob Carpenter, showing the announcing skill that has gotten him fired from Nationals TV: "If that ground ball was 10 feet either way, it would have been a double play."

And if my aunt had....

Valadius
Sep 25 2007 05:57 PM

I was wondering who that blowhard was. I can't stand listening to him.

bmfc1
Sep 25 2007 05:58 PM

Vlad--you won't have to much longer as Stan Kasten gave him the boot as of the end of the season.

Valadius
Sep 25 2007 06:02 PM

Thank God for that.

Carpenter: "Beautiful skyline tonight. Oh that's the fake one, sorry."

Johnny Dickshot
Sep 25 2007 06:04 PM

Great effort, Tom. Way to be the stopper we need.

(sarcasm detector explodes)

bmfc1
Sep 25 2007 06:13 PM

OMG. 4-3 Atlanta. Ryan Howard with a bomb.

bmfc1
Sep 25 2007 06:15 PM

Tommy doesn't want Pelfrey to feel so bad about sucking last night. And Maine, too. And he's lowering the bar for Humber.

Dammit, Tom!

I don't know about you guys, but I'm going out of my mind. Lead off double and the guy doesn't score. 1st and 3d with Wright up and the sucky, sucky Nationals turn a brilliant DP. What the hell is going on?

Edgy DC

Two runs there if Jose gits that runner over.

Iggy's mad.

Johnny Dickshot
Sep 25 2007 06:50 PM

It's fucking Reyes' fault. Can't even get the fucking guy to third.

Atlanta, 6-5.

BTW, it's that sucky Joe West/CB Bucknor crew in Philadelphia. It's not like it's a big series so of course you want some of the worst umpires in the game making the calls.

A Boy Named Seo
Sep 25 2007 06:58 PM

Pretty decent sinker and slider. Most importantly, a scoreless inning.

Lets get some fucking runs here.

metsguyinmichigan

I know it sounds crazy. . . but are the Nats stealing signs or something?

It is uncanny that the worst offense in the league is pounding every one of our pitchers. I just don't get it. . .I am going mad over here. MAD I TELL YOU - MAD!

metsguyinmichigan
Sep 25 2007 07:09 PM

Bergman's over 100 pitches (Thanks to Alou's marathon at-bat) Let's get this guy out of here.

bmfc1

'I know it sounds crazy. . . but are the Nats stealing signs or something?"

That's it! Acta was a coach with the Mets last year and the Mets forgot to change the signs! Oops!

Rockin' Doc
Sep 25 2007 07:11 PM

Since I can't see the Mets game, I decided to catch the Braves game in hopes of cheering them on against the Phillies. Just my luck, TBS isn't carrying the game tonight. It's not often I would wish to cheer for the Braves (okay it's practically never), but I'm willing to make the sacrifice if it helps the Mets clinch a postseason spot.

I Just can't catch a damn break. I was even willing to give the Tomahawk Chop a try if it might help Atlanta win.

Let's Go Mets!!!!!

Sep 25 2007 07:12 PM

Last night, WR pinch-hit Green for Conine to avoid righty-righty... will he do the opposite now to avoid lefty-lefty?

Edgy DC

You let smoking hot Green face a lefty here or go to Niner?

Answer NOW!!!

metsguyinmichigan

An Atlanta hot streak seems to be the Mets best hope for fending off the Phillies. The Braves have Hudson and Smoltz going in the next two games in Philadelphia.

Unfortunately, the Mets sure aren't doing anything to earn a playoff spot right now. Sooner or later, the Mets have to win a few games if they really wish to be in the postseason. I'm really starting to wonder if they are up to the task.

Down 7 we score 6 (Reyes 3r HR, Aliu 3-r double) and have the tying run at 2nd but it stops there when Delgado whiffs as Chavez (running for Alou) stupidly but safely steals 3rd and LoDuca pops up like a douchebag.

I say the hitting barrage in the 9th gives us the momentum we need to close this thing out.
If the Mets can start really whipping their hittin sticks, this could also bolster the pitching confidence in the sense that they
should be able to losen up a little, and not feel like the season is hanging on every pitch,.....which,...it kinda is.

Alou has been unbelievable.

Chavez stealing third with 2 strikes on Delgado......Can someone explain to me the logic in this? Maybe if he had one strike on him...
then look for a the sac. But with 2 strikes Chavez becomes nothing but a distraction, and we have a wiff, two out and no chance for a sac fly.
Stealing at that specific point: highly illogical captain.
You do not pin your hopes on a wild pitch.

That double play Wright hit into in the 7th. CRAZY MAN! What a play by Zimm and the Nats infield.

Shea looked sparse of crowd at the start, in the middle, and at the end of the game, from what I've seen from just looking at highlights.

Both J-Roll and Da Prince of Milwaukee just slid into the MVP race lead tonight, and it REALLY pains me to say this, but Rollins, whether
the Phils make the post or not, is going to win this award.
Why?
Because Rollins is the first player in major league history to have at least 200 hits, 15 triples, 25 homers and 25 steals in the same year.
When the Phils had no Howard and lost Utley, he kept that team in it.
Fielder could possibly inch him out, because the allure of the 50 HR's is huge.
But 2 more triples, and Jimmy's 200+/20/30/30, and he takes it away from anyone and everyone.

As we all know, Phils lost and they have to be wishing for the same thing we are:
PITCHING! Starters that can go quality/deep and a bullpen that can do its job, if only half the time.

And man, checking the active races for playoff spots, this is just wack.
I was never a fan of the wildcard, but it has won me over. I say make one more WC spot.

And lets go get em tomorrow.

- Oh yeah, and Delgado bobbled it.

Other than that it was played perfectly.

Just read the IGT.

That was a perfect description of exactly what happened there FK.
In the box score it looks like a simple infield single.
In reality it was a blotched play and the following run ended up being a big run for the Nats.
A BIG run

so what? a walk is as good as a single, 200 hits is way overrated. triples are nice, but a homerun is better and plenty of guys have hit 40 homers, so theres really nothing that special about 25 homers and 15 triples together either.

Valadius
Sep 25 2007 11:51 PM

Rollins is not going to win.

Granderson's put up similar numbers in Detroit, and he's not coming close to A-Rod, or even Magglio's votes, for that matter.

It's between Wright, Fielder, and Holliday, and it's gonna come down to the wire.

I think the near comeback in the ninth means nothing going forward, scoring runs has not been a problem, our pitching is piss poor and we have a rookie going out there tonight, the Braves have Hudson going tonight so maybe that will be a help.

They ripped my freaking heart out. I went to the game - took the train in, and because the 7 was shut down, grabbed a cab with a few others who were also going to the game...

I got there in the 2nd inning, with the score already 4-1, so I never felt like they were in it until the end. They had to make me believe first before they shoved the knife deep into my heart, the bastards.
