  • Get Jorge Sosa right. Tonight was a great step in that direction.


  • Try and return Joe Smith to major league form. The two of them together can make Mota a non-issue.


  • Get Delgado in the lineup and ready to go.


  • Shore up rotation and get the odd man (men?) out ready to contribute to the bullpen.


  • Somehow get Jose Reyes in gear.


  • Find and activate team's heart.


  • Storm through playoffs. Wow the chikzz.

He could , but one more seals the deal.

Perez, as unsuited for the pen as he seems, has half a chance to make Schoeneweis a non-issue.

    • I thought it was settled: Glavine, Martinez, Perez, Maine.

    El Duque has that boot on his foot and can't throw off a mound for another 6-8 days (as per SNY broadcast last night). Seems like he's not likely to be a starter, at least in the Division Series.

    Eh. I kinda like the idea of Hernandez as emergency relief. I would also like to see Pelfrey on the PS roster, but I haven't sat down with a pencil yet to figure out how possible that is.

    I wouldn't trust pelfrey coming out of relief. and as much as I would ilke to see joe smith make it there too (to displace mota), I don't see him making it.

    Duque in relief would make me feel most comfortable.

    Yeah, Hernandez' injury pretty much settles the Mets playoff rotation, barring any further injuries.

    If Maine doesn't get his shit together, could Pelfrey displace him? I doubt it. Willie gave Oliver Perez playoff starts last year, and at that point Perez had almost exclusively sucked.

    I hope they don't end up with another Cliff Floyd situation this year, where they put an injured guy on the playoff roster and find that they can't really use him. Some candidates for that slot are Alou, Hernandez, and Lo Duca.

    Pelfrey in the pen would be a bold move and I like it,that sinker of his is a killer.

    I think they added a rule change allowing teams to swap out a guy if he's deemed hurt after he's added to the postseason roster. At least I hope they did.

    The only change they made is that the deadline moves if the start of the series is delayed by rain.

    Once the deadline (x hours before Game 1) passes, still no roster moves.

    (Somebody correct me if I'm wrong!)

    Edit: The rule you cited is probably the one I was thinking of.

Sounds like the kicker is that if you make the substitution, the hurt guy cannot return even for the next series.


    ]"The position-player-for-position-player / pitcher-for-pitcher requirement is indeed now gone for substitutions prior to a series," O'Halloran wrote in an e-mail. "However, teams now are allowed to substitute for an injured player during a series. Such in-series substitutions are position-player-for-position-player / pitcher-for-pitcher, and the injured player cannot be active for the remainder of that series or the next series. Those substitutions also require MLB approval.
