Schedule favors us

Looking ahead, we have seven games with the Marlins, three more with the Nats and one make-up with the Cards (which can't thrill either team to have to play)

Meanwhile, the Phillies have seven with the suddenly stubborn Nats and three with the vile Braves.

I can't believe I'm in a position to be rooting for the Braves in the last week of the season!

But, if we roll through the Fish -- like we're supposed to -- then we don't care what the Braves or the Phillies do.

You never know how out-of-contention teams are going to respond.
Just because the Nats played us tough does not mean they'll do likewise against the Phils.

We should have handled the Marlins at Shea in August, yet they won 2 out of 3. So I don't take any of these seven games with them for granted.

Two (of many) possible scenarios:

If the Mets take three of four from the Marlins and the Phillies split with the Nationals, the magic number is down to 4 with 7 games to play. (6 for the Phillies.)

The Mets would then have the luxury of being able to go 2-5 and the Phillies would need to go 5-1 to force a tie.

If the Mets split with Florida and the Phillies take three of four in Washington, then the magic number is still down to 6. The Mets going 2-5 would require the Phillies to go 3-3 to force a tie. (2 and 5 is a lot more scary in this scenario.) However, the Mets going 4-3 would force the Phillies to go 5-1 for the tie.

The schedule might favour us but keep playing like rubbish and it will not matter, obviously more of last nights play would be welcome.
